Belfry and Hazard have a really good relationship and have scrimmaged for several years. The coaches have a mutual respect and it is a good opponent for both teams. They generally do not follow a game situation format, instead going several series of 10 plays each, subbing liberally, and then do the same for JV players. It is great for individual players and coaches, but from a fan's perspective, not much of a true look at the "team" in action. Never ever read too much into a Belfry scrimmage, good or bad. It is just a glorified practice against guys in different color uniforms.

There is no week 0 anymore. Under the old system, there were 11 weeks, (0 through 10) and if you played a game week 0, you gave up a scrimmage and still had a bye week during the season. However if you wanted 2 scrimmages, you had to take the 2nd one in week 0 and then you wouldn't get a bye week during the regular season. But under the new system, if I understand it correctly, there is still 11 weeks, all of them regular season. Weeks 1 through 11. Everyone can have 2 scrimmages AND still get a bye week during the season. That is the way I understand it too.

You may be right. I was told that the old rule of having to choose between a 2nd scrimmage or playing in week 0 (now week 1) was gone and everyone would be able to have 2 scrimmage and still have the bye week. I couldn't reconcile that in my little mind with the calendar.

I've heard bits and pieces about the calendar change, but haven't read anything. Can anyone explain the new calendar starting in 2019? Am I right in that the nomenclature has changed, and there will not be any more "week zero" references? Can you now have 2 scrimmages whether you start play on the first weekend (week 1, I presume) or the second weekend? What else has changed?

That is not an advantage for independents that isn't available also to public schools. Many public schools accept out-of-district students as well, and ALL of them could if they would choose to do so.

In a word, no.

If you have in enough time to meet the requirements for full retirement, then it is ABSOLUTELY the time to retire from public education, especially if you have the opportunity to work in the private sector.

That was my first question also. I have no idea if he would even entertain leaving Boyle for the rigors of Louisville 6A, but if he did, the finances of that move would have to make sense IMO or it would be a no-go.

You are both right, of course on Male. Belfry is the epitome of the term county school, and when I included them I just added Male as an afterthought because I figured somebody would point out that they are technically one.

A lot of people assume differently, but Belfry is a county school. Along with Pike Central, Phelps, East Ridge and Shelby Valley, Belfry is just one of 5 high schools in the Pike County School District. And technically wouldn't Male fall into the same category with JCPS?

Keep in mind, you cant take backpacks, purses larger than a clutch, or any bag that isn't clear into Kroger Field. You can carry a clear bag but it can't be bigger than 12" x 12" x 6" University of Kentucky | Official Athletic Site

Really happy for Raceland, great to see them win this one. For years I think the Rams have been right on the verge of playing for a state title. Good to seem them get the opportunity. Pikeville had a great season and surprised some people, including me.

I think Belfry lost 5 fumbles and turned it over on downs once at about their own 30 after their punter went out with an injury. After Central went up 6-0, on Belfry's first or second play, a botched exchange was taken away by a Central defender and he walked into the end zone to make it 14-0. Two series later Belfry fumbled an option pitch that Central recovered on Belfry's 10 yd line. Belfry had success moving the ball, but couldn't keep pace. Even with the horrible start it was 28-21 right before the half and Belfry would get the ball back on the 2nd half kickoff. Central threw a long pass and Belfry's DB went for the pick, but only tipped it, and Central's WR made an acrobatic catch and scored with 11 seconds to go in the half. Just one of those nights and with Belfry's injuries to an already weakened defense, Central was just too much for the Pirates. Make no mistake, Central contolled the game and they were more physical and better prepared, but Belfry helped them out a lot. Once the lead got to 3 scores, you could see the change in body language on the guys in red, and the writing was on the wall. If you have ever seen many blowouts, you know what I am talking about, there comes a point where the losing team losed their will to win. Central smelled the blood in the water too and were like a shark on a baby seal the rest of the way.

Ouch! Turnovers were killer and Central took advantage of them. Belfry was without some key players but I don't know if it would've mattered tonight. Hate to see this incredible run come to come to an end but I'm thankful to have watched it as a Pirate fan. I'm incredibly proud of this team and our coaches. What they have accomplished is legendary. Congrats to Central they played a great game and they were a LOT more physical than Belfry tonight. They earned this win.

34-21 half Belfry with 3 or 4 injured starters on defense. Been a revolving door. Even down 2 scores it is a game belfry gave Central one TD on a bad exchange and then gifted them another with a fumbled pitch inside their own 10 lucky to be down only 2 TDs
