Can anyone stop Central after they blowout of Belfry? Who has a chance to knock of the Yellow Jackets?

That was possibly the most shocking score that I can ever remember seeing in all of my years following high school football.

 

Corbin and Boyle are both proud programs but IMO it will take a near perfect game from either to hang with Central if they place close to how they did against Belfry.

You may be right, that was a lot of points to put on a, overwhelming, favorite.

You know, no one saw Central scoring 60 on Belfry. I have to think there may be some more surprises in Class 3A.

Right now I would rank the 4 remaining teams as follows

1. Central

2. Boyle

3. E-town

4. Corbin

Would not favor one team over another by more than a few points and wouldn't be surprised if both games this Friday are blowouts. After last night its all but a tossup.

As shocking as the score was, I have had doubts about Belfry as the top team in 3A for much of the year. I think both Corbin and Boyle County have been at the top in 3A most of the year instead of Belfry. At the end of the season, Boyle County was the clear #1 team in 3A for me and Central will be the underdog if those two meet in the title game - even after this Belfry score.

I would like to know how many turnovers there was, if Corbin, Boyle or Etown don’t turn the ball over I think any of them can win. Sounds like anything that could go wrong went wrong for Belfry. So did they kick themselves in the foot or did Central kick them? Central has a great team no doubt but did Central have any turnovers and if they had been the one turning it over do they still beat Belfry?

I agree, I think Belfry's huge loss of talent off last years team finally caught up with them last night, I think any of the 4 could win it all though I might favor Boyle and Corbin.

Just find Central's defensive stats off the charts. Subtract 3 6A teams (Ballard, PRP, and St. X), Central has allowed a total of 50 points against non-6A teams in ten games. That is an average of less than a score including 5 shutouts and the running clock on Belfry. Impressive is an understatement.

I think Belfry lost 5 fumbles and turned it over on downs once at about their own 30 after their punter went out with an injury.

 

After Central went up 6-0, on Belfry's first or second play, a botched exchange was taken away by a Central defender and he walked into the end zone to make it 14-0.

 

Two series later Belfry fumbled an option pitch that Central recovered on Belfry's 10 yd line.

 

Belfry had success moving the ball, but couldn't keep pace.

 

Even with the horrible start it was 28-21 right before the half and Belfry would get the ball back on the 2nd half kickoff. Central threw a long pass and Belfry's DB went for the pick, but only tipped it, and Central's WR made an acrobatic catch and scored with 11 seconds to go in the half.

 

Just one of those nights and with Belfry's injuries to an already weakened defense, Central was just too much for the Pirates. Make no mistake, Central contolled the game and they were more physical and better prepared, but Belfry helped them out a lot.

 

Once the lead got to 3 scores, you could see the change in body language on the guys in red, and the writing was on the wall. If you have ever seen many blowouts, you know what I am talking about, there comes a point where the losing team losed their will to win. Central smelled the blood in the water too and were like a shark on a baby seal the rest of the way.

Boyle held Danville to 10 points. They can play with Central.

I think this situation as much as anything contributes to the large number of post season blowouts, once a team realizes the season is over it's nature to let up and for the other team to go for the kill, so to speak.

Central has always played well at home and that was a huge factor again against Belfry. Corbin is a very good team and can win there, but you can't let Central get up on you and expect to come back at their place

It's all about matchups

 

IMHO, Boyle and Central are 1A and 1B in terms of matchup problems they present.

 

Corbin has a defense good enough to slow down anyone and Sizemore is a winner.

 

Etown doesnt seem to matchup the best with anyone, but they are consistently solid and will force you to bring your A-game.
