  1. If Belfry can get by Bell and Rockcastle can take care of Lawrence the looks like the Pirates will make a trip to Rocketland in 2 weeks. That would be a fun trip imo
  2. Belfry dominated the game, especially on offense but they played a little sloppy on defense, missing tackles and committing undisciplined penalties. Halftime score was 56-20 and it was a strange half that took about 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete. The entire 2nd half Belfry played reserves and Clay played their 1's. Nothing wrong with it, it was a running clock game and Clay added 2 scores. It was a good thing for the young guys to go against starters and get in some good work.
  3. On my way to work, heard on the radio about the first plane. After I settled in at work, heard about the 2nd plane. Pretty much just had the TV on the rest of the day in shock as it all unfolded.
  4. THREE FRIENDS GET MARRIED... Three friends got married on the same weekend, and they all married girls from different parts of Kentucky. The first guy married a woman from Fayette County in central KY. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he cam home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away. And he saw that it was good. The second man married a woman from Graves County in western KY. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the house cleaning, dishes, and do all the cooking. The first day he didn’t see any results, but the next day he saw it was a little better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a big home-cooked meal on the table. And he saw that it was good. The third man married a girl from Pike County in eastern KY. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn’t see anything, the second day he didn’t see anything, but by the third day the swelling wend down and he could see a little bit out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could make himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he pees.
  5. I don't see how anyone from Belfry could be disappointed with the performance tonight. Not everything went right, turnovers were a problem and I think our youth showed a little. But, I paid attention to body language and intensity. Belfry got down by 2 scores early, and they dusted themselves off and played their way back into it, going in at the half down 14-13. Then later in the game, a returned fumble for a TD on a play where it appeared Belfry's RB was down before the fumble, and then a nice pounding drive by SW put the Pirates down 27-13. Without several starters, running a watered down version of their offence and down 2 scores late in the game, it would have been easy to just dial it in, but the boys came back again, scoring with about 4 min to go and cut the lead to 7. They lost the onside kick and SW was able to run out the clock to close it. I really like the grit. I like the attitude. I believe when everyone heals up, this is going to be a dangerous team in 3A.
  6. I would think SW is a favorite in this one. Belfry kids are playing extremely hard and looking good in spurts. They haven’t put together a complete game yet but coming along. Playing without a major piece of the puzzle tonight won’t help. I’ll be interested in how the defense plays against another power football team. The change up on the DL was impressive last week.
  7. Head says Pikeville but heart really wants Raceland to win.
  8. One of my favorite things of every week during football season. I usually catch the podcast on Friday mornings as well. Keep it coming Coaches...
  9. My favorite feature is the ability to see the history between two teams. I only recently discovered it and I really like that. When you are looking at a team's schedule, or on the weekly scoreboard list of game, there is a symbol on the far right column showing two arrows pointing in opposite directions. Click on that and you will see all the history between those teams going back to 1998. For example if you want to see the history between Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg, click the arrows, and you will see the following... (Nevermind that I highlighted Floyd Central instead of Prestonsburg, LOL, you get the idea)
  10. It’s not a game day issue and certainly not recent at all. It goes deeper; inter county life.
  11. It certainly puts that thought in mind. I didn’t see any of the Pikeville - JC game but I have a hard time imagining Pikeville staying within 3 TDS of LCA.
  12. Trust me, it surprised me too. I did have a former coach tell me this week he had seen JC and he thought Belfry would beat them. But I was not ready to believe it, and nobody expected the margin. Belfry was a missed 2 pt conversion from putting the running clock on, and that is just unfathomable.
  13. That is the story of this game. I know JC was missing some skill guys, but Belfry controlled the game up front in the trenches on both sides of the ball. The OL had their way with JC's DL, but more impressively to me was the way the defensive front 7 really beat JC physically. I think at the half JC had one first down.
  14. For week one the Bucs looked pretty good. Offense showed some new wrinkles and looked very cohesive. No turnovers and no punts by the first team, very few penalties. Depth is an issue, especially in the secondary. Losing Caden Varney is a blow. Not to mention it was on a blind cheap shot 40 yards away from the play. 😡 Young guys are going to have to grow up quick. Should be fun to watch. The competition level gets tougher the next few weeks. Iron sharpens Iron.
  15. Great start to the season, I really enjoyed the podcast. What a wealth of knowledge and stories between Coaches Buchanan, Smith and Haywood. Coach Haywood is a great interview. He is a top notch coach, and a better person. He is the type of guy you need your kids to be around, and if he never won another game, I would want my kid to play for him. Best high school stadiums? Putnam ranks high for me. Obviously I am partial to Belfry. Boyle's atmosphere is incredible. I love the setting at Hazard. I haven't been to the Briar Patch since the new turf went down, but it was rocking the night I was there. There is just too many to list but these came to mind immediately.
  16. That was a classic. Regional finals at Belfry in the worst field conditions imaginable. 6" of mud. Breathitt went on to beat Russell in the semis and then destroyed Corbin in the finals behind the strong arm of Justin Haddix.
  17. The short answer is both of the past two years. Belfry has had huge concerns early in the season. The Pirates never really start strong, they have a "get a little better each day" philosophy and they try to peak in November. But through the first 5 games of 2021 and 2022 they have a 2-8 record, and that is not typical. Neither is getting blown out in round 2. Looking forward to seeing if that improves.
  18. Some random thoughts. I am really glad football season is here, finally!!!!! This class will be fun to watch. CAL is definitely the favorite but Central and LexCath are instant upgrades. I don't know much about Lloyd. Belfry will have to prove it to me before I would rank them that high, especially this early in the season and after they lost some players to transfer. I think Lawrence County will be the favorite in their own district. Looking at this ranking, there's a lot of interesting games on the slate for this week in the top ten.
