Kentucky fans have to realize that it isn't a zero sum game. Both teams can be very good, possibly even championship contenders. I think Kentucky will get better on defense, but so will Louisville on offense. And vise versa. This notion that only Kentucky can be good and Louisville must be bad was true for a handful of Kenny Payne years, but for most of the last four decades it hasn't been the case and it isn't the case this year.

Kentucky shot 75% (12-16) from the foul line last night. In 1996, Mark Pope's senior season, with Rick Pitino coaching, considered one of the best teams in college basketball history, Kentucky shot 71% from the line on the season. Where do we stand on Brandon Garrison? He can't defend, can't rebound, can't block shots, can't pass and can't score. He also seems to be in the wrong place at all times. Otherwise, he's solid.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this topic during the week and below is my proposal. This system maintains the integrity of district plays and rewards district championships. It also doesn't punish teams for being in a tougher district or reward teams who are in an easier district. It eliminates the worst of teams and their seemingly meaningless first round games. It also eliminates repeat playoff games where teams in opposite districts have to play each other almost every year. PROPOSAL: 24 teams per class make the playoffs. Each class would still have 8 districts and each district winner would receive a first round bye. The remaining 16 spots are determined by the RPI. There could be some 4th place teams in districts that qualify and some runners-up that don't. This is about adding the best teams. Using Class 3A in the chart below, the "western" district winners are in yellow, the "eastern" district winners are in green. District winners are seeded 1-4 in their respective sides of the bracket and receive a first round bye. This year's bracket would look like the following based on district winners: Following the placement of district winners, you then place the remaining teams in the bracket based on location and seed. The 12 best non-district winning "western" teams from Districts 1-4 would go on the left side, with the best team playing the worst and so on. The same would be done on the east. If there was a situation where there were more or less than the 8 teams in a grouping of districts, you'd move the easternmost team to the west, or vice versa. The bracket below shows what it would look like (**Notice that Henry County, although District 5, is moved into the west because of the need of an 8th team). The better seed would host the first round, then the team with the bye would host the second round. Following the completion of the second round, you would have 8 teams remaining. Using the same procedure as today, the four remaining "western" teams would be paired by RPI and the same done on the eastern side. For the semifinals, you would use the RPI to pair the #1 and #4 teams, and #2 and #3. Winners play in the finals.

They usually do, just typically lack size and depth.

This is where I see the biggest difference between the two teams.

Green County scored early in the fourth quarter to cut it to 20-12. They lined up to go for two but then had to burn a timeout because they couldn't get the play in. Then when they scored with three minutes left - knowing you were down 8 and would have to go for two - they get a delay of game penalty because they couldn't get the play in, although they still had one timeout. First, you have to know what you're running in that situation, right? Then if you don't know what you're running you have to take the timeout because you absolutely cannot take a delay of game penalty.

Southwestern's schedule has been brutal and typically District 7 is blah, but I actually think West is a pretty solid club this year. I think the Colts get their first playoff win since 2021.

It feels like every Elizabethtown game has come down to the wire while Calloway has had an impressive rise after several really bad years. I'd certainly pick E-town to win but this could be an interesting matchup.

Unethical is bit strong, but I understand your point. Incidentally, Saturday playoff games used to be much more common. JCPS teams used to play double and tripleheaders at the old Cardinal Stadium on Fridays and Saturday, especially in the early rounds. I also remember Newport Central Catholic (Newport Stadium) and Owensboro Catholic (Rash Stadium) playing Saturday playoff games when they shared stadiums. And of course Covington Catholic played all their home playoff games on Saturdays before installing lights. But yeah, hardly ever see it now.

A game could be moved to Saturday and not have to forfeit.

I don't mean to make light of the weather, but moving to Thursday looks a whole lot like a bunch of 4-seeds ready to be done with the season.

I'll add to this: today is Sunday of the first round of the playoffs. There were two games played last night (both featuring small schools) and everything else played on Thursday and Friday, yet the Class 5A bracket (which had a three-team tiebreaker) has still not been updated. It isn't the end of the world, but that feels like a pretty important piece to have straightened out.
