In a massive breaking news trade. The Lakers have traded Anthony Davis and Max Christle and their 2029 1st round pick to Mavericks for Luka Doncic and Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris. The deal is a three-team trade also involving the Utah Jazz not being reported what their part will be.

Makes you wonder if something went on behind the scenes with Luka. From the Mavs perspective, this doesn’t make to much sense to me. Which quite honestly I'm not sure how well Luka fits with Lebron. Unless this is a move for the future, so they have a star to build around once Lebron retires.

Interesting jus now ESPN they reported that no one knew this was coming and that it was actually Dallas that contacted the Lakers about this trade. Also, they reported even more surprising to me was Davis, Luka, or LeBron knew anything about this trade until it was made.

Two teams going no where.  I don’t think it chances either team’s playoff run this season.  I prefer Luka (by a lot) and it gives the Lakers something to build around in the future.  But currently, I am not convinced that either team’s leadership can build a true contender in today’s NBA.  I like Mr Glass’ game, but he doesn’t always dominate, when he should, because he is soft.

This is definitely the angle for the Lakers. They are looking to Luka for the future. 

A ton of theories floating around with this one. How the Lakers pulled this one off, I’ll never know. What a fleecing.

How'd he tick off LeBron?  Did he block Bronny's shot in practice?

I am watching the Celtics and Sixers on ESPN and they said that with Luka being traded by the Mavs would cost him as much as $117 million because with him being traded he could not do the super max contract.

Note as posted above - the Lakers did not initiate the trade. The Mavericks did. They wanted to move on from Luka. Word I heard this afternoon is the Mavs don't like Luka's work ethic, lack of interest in playing defense and his lack of conditioning. The Mavs didn't think he was committed to the team or the organization.

It takes two to tango. As I understand, the Lakers were not planning to extend Davis this offseason. Why? Some believe they’re playing on borrowed time with his injury history and some think it has to do with the Lakers brain trust being over the Klutch Sports drama. In typical fashion, last week AD does a sit down with Shams and goes in on how the team needs to make moves so that he doesn’t have to be at the 5. This is a LeBron (or Klutch) passive aggressive tactic utilized through his career. I’m sure that makes the rest of the team feel great when you’re basically saying what you have sucks and we need to upgrade. So, one week later he is dealt. Coincidence? Maybe. But that had to have gotten the Mavs wondering if this was their opportunity to strike, and so they did…. Stupidly, I might add. Luka has never been a workout warrior and “plays himself into shape” each year, but the dude is a top 3 asset that performs at a savant level. You figure that out if you’re the Mavs. Or you let it be known he’s available because Dallas could have gotten a hell of a lot more than they did.

Appreciate that perspective. The Mavs GM said they have been working on this deal for 3-4 weeks. What happened last week may have clinched the deal but I don't think it initiated the deal if those timelines are right.
