Nico Harrison is concerned that Luka will continue to balk at his conditioning and could end up like Joel Embiid—frequently out of shape and injured. He doesn't want the Mavs to take on the financial burden of paying a supermax to a guy they ultimately know they can't rely upon or win the title with. He may be right, but we are talking about a guy who has been named All-NBA five times in his six seasons. Dudes like this don't grow on trees, defensive warts and conditioning concerns aside. This season Luka was having a statistically poor season, yet was averaging 28, 8, and 8.

Luka Doncic has the third-highest scoring average of anyone in NBA history, trailing only Jordan and Wilt.

I agree with the general sentiment that he is hard to manage. On the court, he's easily the biggest whiner in the NBA.

Just saw he is expected to be out a minimum of 12 games he did not make it through his first game with the Mavs.

Three weeks later and I still can't wrap my head around the Lakers getting Luka for AD. There needs to be a 30 for 30 on this.

As expected, Luka has cemented himself as the Lakers' best player right away. The Lakers now have the second best odds to win the Western Conference.

I co-sign with Bill Simmons on what he said on his podcast. This trade was so horrific and coupled with Kyrie being gone this year and maybe next, the Mavs may look to move out in the middle of the night and go to Vegas. There is no light at the end of this tunnel.

The only explanation I can come up with for trading Luka is that he was sleeping with Nico's wife or the owner's.

80 or so days later and myself and the rest of the NBA world is still trying to figure out the dumbest trade in the history of sports.

The Mavs' front office, without a doubt.

I can follow the logic of wanting to move off Luka because he is a pest, never being in shape, and them doubting his ability to be the centerpiece of a championship team. But what makes the trade so bad is how little they got in return and the fact that he was not shopped to what would have been a multitude of other suitors. AD is no slouch, but they should have gotten Austin Reaves out of the deal, too.

Oh, you must’ve missed it. LeBron, Luka, and Reaves, were all apparently injured throughout the first round, as has been released in the aftermath of their defeat. It is a wonder they were able to field a team coming down the stretch. This all could have been remedied if LeBron had more help, though.
