RPI Rankings?

Featured Replies

When do the RPI Rankings come out. I asked our coach and he said it should come out sometime this week.

Does anyone else know exactly when they come out?

  • I reverse engineered 2024 RPI ratings from KHSAA website and mocked up potential 2025 RPI ratings.  Can't wait to see how close I get whenever KHSAA decides to honor their commitment of Week 5. A

  • I love how Juggsports put this together on a random Saturday evening but for whatever reason the KHSAA can’t invest enough time to meet their own deadline. ?

Follow along at the KHSAA website. They posted….

“The RPI will be released each season at the start of the fifth playing week, and will be calculated for the regular season only. Any edits to the schedule of a team after the calculation of RPI has stopped for that season will not result in additional adjustment or recalculation.”

So it should be this week.

Was released last year on September 16, which was a Monday. I'd Imagine sometime today. I have also seen that for football sometimes it is the beginning of the 6th playing week. What's the rush? Haha this on is out of everybody's control.

Not just out of state competition, but VERY STRONG out of state competition.

If another state uses RPI is there not a way to just merges the ratings between states? they currently use a flat rate of .53 correct?

If there is an RPI system from the opposing team's state, I don't see why it should be a huge deal for the KHSAA to work that into their formula. But if you ask me, the simplest answer is to put the onus on the KY team playing the out-of-state team to report their competitor's wins/losses and their competitor's competitors' wins/losses. If they choose not to take the initiative and report the schedule info, then they get stuck with a .53 for the game.

If the KHSAA can rely on their membership to accurately report stats and final scores for their own games, then I don't see why they don't feel like they can rely on them to accurately report the win/loss info for their out-of-state competitors.

Is today the day for the RPI ratings to come out? Any one got any predictions?

I looked back at last year and RPI was released on 9-16 so we are a week past last year already.

It came out prior to week 5 last season so we are already a week behind.

Undefeated schools playing mediocre teams will be ranked a lot higher than very strong teams who have taken a loss playing really good schools. LOL

Examples:

Expect 4A fans to really be upset when Logan County is near the top of the class while a team like an Ashland is in the very middle or even toward the lower half of the class. Franklin County probably will come in either #1 or #2. Expect CovCath to be surprisingly low between having two losses and one of those being an out of state team. Noone in KY would hang their head at losing to Elder by 8 points.. but in the eyes of the RPI it will punish CovCath like they just lost to Jellico, TN.

In 1A expect Pikeville to be toward the bottom half of the class. In the eyes of the CPU they have three losses and their lone wins are a 1A team and an out of state team. Meanwhile Covington Holy Cross will probably be a Top 5 team.

Soccer came out today. At the bottom of the linked page it says:

Initial stat leader reports for the sports on the Riherds/KHSAA Scoreboard will be released at the start of week 4 of the regular season, followed by each sport's initial RPI rankings at the start of week 5.

Unless they are still calling the first week Week 0, then they are a week behind.

I also noticed with that release they claimed the release of football stats but all the links went to 2024 stats.

Soccer season started August 11. This is the start of Week 7, with two weeks remaining before District tourneys. Two (RPI) and three (stats) weeks late is less than optimal.
