Danville (9-2) travels to Somerset (10-1) to take on the Briar Jumpers.  These two are very familiar with each other as they have met at least once every season since 2009.  The Admirals jumped out to a 20-0 lead against Green County in the opening round and hung on to win 20-18.  Somerset gave up a touchdown on the opening kickoff against Washington County but settled in and pulled away for a 49-21 victory.  Danville has had a remarkable turnaround under first year Coach Steve Stonebreaker.  After losing 23 games in a row the Admirals scored more points in the opening game than they did all last season and have only suffered two setbacks all season, one to 2A powerhouse Lexington Christian Academy.  The Briar Jumpers lost their starting quarterback, and the game, in their opener against South Laurel, but have won 10 in a row.  Danville leads the all-time series 54-29, but those 29 losses are the most that the Admirals have against any program.  Since the rivalry picked back up in 2009 the Jumpers are 14-9 in the matchup.  Somerset Coach Clay Clevenger won State Championships at Danville as both a player and a coach, and is 2-0 against the Admirals since taking over the helm at Somerset.  This one could be one of the better matchups in the 2nd round, and will add another chapter in the long history between these old rivals. Who moves on to round 3?

Will add more later but Danville's offensive woes in the second half against Green County do worry me going into this game.  When defenses are able to key in on Meaux, the Ads still don't have a reliable answer to that.  Cruver has come along nicely as a QB but he's just a freshman and the Ads just don't have a diverse array of offensive weapons yet.

Should be a fun matchup in round two between two great coaches in Kentucky high school football.  I know this become RPI dependent when it comes to round 3 but who is the winner of this game likely to face?

Barring any upsets, the winner of this game would be the 4 seed in the West, and would travel to Owensboro Catholic in round 3. 

Somerset big. Danville's Offensive line was dominated against Green County, and Somerset has a better D Line. Coach Clevenger will not let Meaux beat him and I don't see Cruver being able to get it done throwing the ball. I do think Danville has a pretty good defense, but I don’t think they will be able to score on Somerset just relying on Meaux.

Cruver has to play better, it's 11 games in the season and he missed tons of throws with wide open receivers.

This is where I see the biggest difference between the two teams.

Knowing Stonebraker when he feels like his team could struggle vs an opponent he throws in a couple trick plays. Adairs only score against Union county last year was a trick play.

Yes. Danville has some good young pieces but they are heavily heavily reliant on Meaux. I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up with the Bunnies. And Clevenger will be extra motivated in this one. 

I think Danville's strength (rushing attack) is counteracted by Somerset's strength (dominate DLine).  I don't see the Ads moving the football on the Jumpers.  Somerset by 3+ scores. 

I'm really pulling for Danville in this matchup.  The future really looks bright for Danville and a W next week would really get that monkey off their back.  Go Ads!

I gotta go with Somerset here. It’s a great looking squad that has the potential to surprise one of the perceived “top 5” teams. Danville has been a great story this year and they will be able to really build on this for years to come.
