I agree... I have also seen Withrow play our JV last year and the various 7 on 7's the last several years. Our defense will not be over looking this challenge as many have played in the aforementioned games and they know what they are up against. Should be a very interesting match-up!

I have been on several visits to Wofford including their contest last year against Furman. I agree it is a great scholastic and athletic institution, but I could not get over the guys in the stands wearing little terriers on their trousers! That alone turned my son off! :jump: Actually, a great school with a good football program. Their head coach played at Georgetown Kentucky. Great Kentucky recruiter by the name of Fuqua! Nate played high school ball down at Danville...

Thanks! :thumb: IMO, the vast majority of walk-ons could play at another level of college ball. However, due to academic preference / team preference and/or college preference they try their skills and abilities with a D-1 school. So far, it has been a great ride. Regardless of possible athletic schollarship opportunities at the end of the rainbow... the chap has gained numerous new friendships and about 20 lbs. as a result of this journey w/ the CATS!

My son is a walk on at UK... As a walk on last year he was not invited to Summer Camp. However, when he started the 1st day of class in September- he was treated nearly the same as scholly players. He got the opportunity to dress for the S Carolina game and dressed for the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn. Right now, he is practicing with the team during Spring Ball. Started the contact portion on Wednesday. His goal: is to make Summer Camp. A tough hill to climb, but that is the goal he set for himself. Lastly, he is having a ball with the team, players and coaches. They are great. He traveled to Panama City with a few players a couple of weeks ago, some spend the weekends with us during the Fall to watch N Ky football. If one loves the sport, there is nothing wrong with walking onto the team and having a great time. BTW, he spends just as many hours with the team during training as the scholly players and it takes that little extra to stay up on academics. That part, getting up at 6:00am and going to practice and then school in the late afternoon kind of caught him by suprise! Go CATS!

I thought that the school Tony and Dave were considering, Georgia Military College, is a prep school like Fort Union. Therfore he would not lose collegiate eligibility. Georgia Military a JUCO or Prep? I have a son that is a friend of a Fort Union student who is on the UK team as a Tight End. You are 110% on the mark regarding the difference between JUCO and Prep and their years towards NCAA eligibility... not that I ever doubted your strong opinion!

Great teams over the last serval years... obviously well coached in the fundamentals. Athletes are very dedicated. Now its time to get that pigskin fly'n or will endure same results as last year.

I think the School Super and the School Principal should be the decsion makers in this situation... that's one of many responsibilities that they are charged with. What I don't understand is why in the world would they feel a need for a committee for community support? I am sure the football coach will be an educator at the school... and my opinion is that the Super and Pricipal are the best to make a decision from that point of view. I feel for the coach and the student athletes at Glasgow High.

Looks to me that BOK is a first class arena... northern Kentucky basketball deserves the best! For most Campbell Countians, it got old driving out to Connor, Ryle and even over to Holmes. I really think the new venue will continue to attract crowds, fans and others as the tournament takes foot in its new home. Give 'em time to work out the bugs...

I agee as well. The players would rather play in the big games... get some exposure and, who knows, possibly walk away with a "W."

I agree 100%. It's a burdensome task for two parents to read through the letters and to try to decipher the message being delivered by the recruiters. I am just of the opinion that the school is there to help all students and parent(s) if and when help is needed.

Have YOU ever been through the recruiting process? Sounds like you have been personally jilted... and have this belief that coaches don't bother to further the education of their student athletes. I will stand by the coaches at any school vs your attacks. Through the years I have been fortunate to maintain friendships with many coaches in the N Ky area. The very first thing they bring up is how proud they are of this athlete and that athlete getting offers from the various collegiate institutions. Once again I will simply pose the question to you, Why wouldn't a high school coach promote his athletes to the recruiters calling and visiting the schools?" If they are collegiate material the coach will do all he can to get them to the next level. If they do not have the skills and grades... they should have a heart to heart talk. BTW, Georgetown, Centre, Union, University of the Cumberlands, Thomas More, University of Dayton and many other non - DI schools make the circut in northern Kentucky...they make the rounds to all the high schools. Perhaps not to Johnny's door step... but to the door step of the AD and Guidance Counselor.

IMO, it's not the coach's sole responsibility to find a D-III or NAIA school for Johnny. Johnny's performance on the field, grades and a little elbow grease from mom and dad should do the trick. The coach can produce a highlight tape to assist. The coaches in a conference can select Johnny to various all-star games for the needed publicity. But the parents and son need to respond to the letters, phone calls and high school visits from the recruiters to help ink a deal. If the athlete has the qualities to play at the next level, I am sure any high school coach will do all that is necessary to assist. Why wouldn't he?

I am not a Private basher... but I will wholehearedly disagree with your comment regarding "you get what you pay for." There are some very fine public schools in this great state that are deemed Blue Ribbon Schools. I am not sure if Manual is one of these designated schools, but to make such an absurd comment without any fact is wrong. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To some of us that trait is found in the public sector and to others it is found in the private.

I agree... but moving it to the far western part of our state will not generate state wide interest. It's a start.

I went to the East West game last year... I was amongst 200+ fans at Papa Johns watching the game in the rain. The format is an embarassment to the players as well as to the state of Kentucky. This format does not sell Kentucky HS football to anyone in or out of the state of Kentucky. Move the game to Georgetown College. Make an attempt to play before a pact stadium and try to sell the game to the media and generate ticket sales. Louisville does not support the HS All Star game so let's move it and upgrade the enthusiasm for these fine athletes. Just being factful and honest!

That's a shocker... :laugh: And you forgot to mention that Gary Schrader, former QB coach at HHS, Cov Cath, Boone county is now the QB coach Cincinnati Christian Hills Academy!

Evidently the lake has a very strong current and the fear is that they may have been carried down to the dam... if I am incorrect please tell me, but I remember the dam as being hydroelectric - producer of electricity w/turbines. If that is so, the young men may never be recovered. Let's all pray for the best!

Congrats to the Covington Catholic faithful! Sounds like a quality coach, and more importantly, a great educator of our youth... looking forward to the days of a competitive rivalry with the Birds. Let the games begin... Brossart staying on or pack'n the bags?
