Clyde Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Dave Brossart still wants to be a head coach and has discussed the available head coaching job with Newport. He's one of 3 candidates (I think). A former player is another option and I forget who the 3rd is. Good luck to Dave.
theguru Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I was told Nick Rice interviewed for the job.
KillerCats09 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 The candidates are at this point Dave Brossart, Nick Rice and a teacher at the high school. IMO - Newport should hire Nick Rice because he is a good motivator and he IMO can bring back and keep the talent there. Brossart IMO would not be a good fix for Newport because I just don't believe he is what Newport needs at this time. The other candidate IMO definitely is not what Newport needs. Rice is the right choice IMO and I hope Newport's AD's realize it. If you (Newport's AD's) want someone that is going to stay around and produce and actually have some college connections to help the kids get recognized then Rice is your man.
20/20Hindsight Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I know that at least one interview was held on Thursday. Does anyone know when the decision will be made?
The Golfer Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I noticed today that the Newport job has been posted on the KHSAA website now here either Friday evening or today. Wondering why if they are going to hire soon was it just posted on there yesterday or today?

ORION Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Dave Brossart is a good man. He has at least one great coach that would follow him from last year at Cov Cath. Just because things didn't work out for him in Park Hills, does not mean he wouldn't be a good fit. Coach Brossart is a very hard worker and I believe will land on his feet and do a great job wherever he ends up next year. I don't know Coach Rice, but Newport would benefit from the hire of Dave Brossart.

I think that Brossart at Newport would be a good fit. It maybe a very good move for both. Don't know the other candidates so this is in no way a shot at them. I do know that Newport has the talent to be a serious contender in the 2a district. I think it will be challenge to knock of NewCath, but I can see that rivalry returning to a very competitive game year in and year out.
colonelsrock Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I agree that Coach Brossart would be a good choice for Newport. Good luck dave.
KillerCats09 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Why did Brossart leave CovCath? I thought he had another coaching job he was taking. Now, he wants Newport? I don't understand why he left without having a coaching position or other to go to. Can someone please explain?
KillerCats09 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 By the way, welcome to BGP's colonelsrock.

I don't understand why he left without having a coaching position or other to go to. Can someone please explain? Officially he resigned from CovCath. It just was not the great fit for him everyone had hoped it would be. This in no way means he is not a good coach, and I too agree that Newport would be a much better fit for him. It is similar to where he has had success in the past (Finneytown), and IMO if giving the chance at Newport he will again be successful. I do not know the other candidates for Newport position, so I can't say who would be the best fit, but Brossart would be a good one IMO.
NHS BIG DADDY Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I know that at least one interview was held on Thursday. Does anyone know when the decision will be made? Rice had his on thursday. Ive heard they may wait til early April before a decision gets made.
Qryche11 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I think Brossart would fit well at Newport but Nick Rice likely would fit better. Nick is a Newport boy and will ignite some enthusiasm in the community which is sorely needed. I think he will be a very good disciplinarian as well. Should be interesting to say the least.
