I think it is 'bout time for the horse collar rule in HS football. Nothing positive comes out of a horse collar tackle.. its all ugly. Sadly, I saw Dicky Lyons go down last year at the UK game with the horse collar tackle. The SEC officials did not make the call... Will they make the call in HS ball? :ohbrother:

They visit after the season has been completed... the letters, phone calls and text messages is a different matter.

To put the blame on the high school coach or coaches is to not be familiar with the recruiting game...

How do you know that the Highlands coach didn't and isn't marketing Adam and Tony? That's a wreckless statement to thow out there without having any facts to support your shot at the finest coach in Kentucky... Throughout the recruiting season there are recruiters lined up outside of the coach's office waiting to talk to prospects. I am very confident that they met any and all D1 recruiters that walked the halls of HHS this Fall and Winter. Besides... Adam and Tony got their hands on the highest quality highlight tape in Kentucky to help market their many talents... Cooperstown nailed my sentiments... the athlete has to help market himself to play in the venue that best suits his talents. Be it D1, D2, D3 or NAIA.

Are we going to see Schlosser on the defensive side of the line this year? Dempsey took a step on the D side and rang up a solid performance... who is pegged going both ways?

MTSU? I met Tony Franklin in Maryland last Fall right after the AU departure... nice guy. Nothing but F word out of his mouth.. Football Football Football. Very interesting to hear him rattle off all the N Kentucky coaches that he knows and many of the local athletes from years gone by! Obviously... a class act. I wish him well. :thumb:

I will have to agree with you on that one Henry521... Will Bardolini playing defense his junior year and now starting QB his senior year will pay huge dividends in the recruiting arena after the '09 campaign. Will has the speed, arm accuracy and heigth to make it in the DI recruiting circles. I think the Dempsey lad would have been contemplating offers... if he had the opportunity to showcase his defensive skills last year as a junior. The stud had a great year on both sides of the line...

It will be fun and quite interesting to watch his progress over the next several years... It was interesting to follow Gino, Bay and Ben... Tony will be just as interesting. Good luck young man!

Nailed it from my experiences... Grades will open numerous doors for an athlete at the D1 - Non BCS and at the D2 and NAIA schools. If the grades are not sufficient, then there is a price to pay to be able to attend and play at these prestigious schools.

I saw Furman play Wofford this Fall. They have a great team that plays in a very competitive conference... Mr Phillips and family should be very proud of his accomplishment. Besides... nothing wrong in playing in warm climate!

59 signees from the Greater Cincinnati area and only 1 from N. Ky. The 59 signees represents not only D1 but D2 and D3 as well. Either the data base is corrupt or there is a N Ky disconnect.... check out http://www.nky.com. :irked: Highlands, New Cath, Simon Kenton and Beechwood all played in the State Championships... what's up? Is there a data base that will populate signess from the state of Kentucky?

Unfortunately for northern Kentucky, looks like just one will be joining the D1 - BCS ranks! Hopefully next year this trend will be snapped...

Easy trigger... I was only kidding. Bell's got a great program and I certainly salute great HS football in the Commonwealth. I do think that it is a real possiblity that we will have our dreams come true in a year or two...

I would think all coaches put their best athletes on the field... they worked hard for that honor. As far as community support... you are correct, they do not support a losing program! Heck, it's hard enough to get the community behind a winning program.

Great game... I remember exacty where I was sitting and whom I was sitting with during that game... couldn't look once the ball left Chuke's tee. I do recall Chuke being sick and really not having such a terrific season... The dad, Elvis, was a real treat to sit near during the games. :scared: That game and the '04 game will be tops in my book! This year's Bryan Station contest will be right up there with the Bell County games. So, why is Dudley scared to play HHS? Once we get back into the same classification he will not have a choice!

By D-1 are you including D-1 Non BCS? (Formally, D-1 AA) Last year from HHS: Jurgens / MSU, Stein / Gardner Webb, Bathiani / Western Carolina, Cecil / MSU (declined offer and joined the UK squad as a walk-on) There are a slew of other HHS athletes that are currently enjoying D-III and NAIA ball. Perhaps not at the D-1 level but having just as much fun...

Couldn't agree with you more... put the best behind Bardo at QB regardless of class. If it is a sophomore that is great for the long run. Unfortunately, there haven't been many sophomore QBs at HHS that are mentally / physically able to take the charge... It will be fun Spring Ball. That is for sure!

10-4 on that one... I thought one was far more 8th grade oriented than the other... The main thing... I hope the league is vibrant and healthy for you and your son to enjoy in the years to come! My boys enjoyed it and still talk about numerous experiences to this very day. Also, it sure helped with the number of rings in the household.

I will preface this by mentioning that I did not have any youth involved during this period. Heck, I think I was officiating 5th & 6th with Willie Schlarmann Sr. and Mark King. Don't think I said some of the coaches pretty much did not know what they were doing... didn't even imply it. "I think the blame also falls on some of the coaches who took on more than they could handle... " There were two teams, one fared pretty well and the other took quite a beating. The team that took its lumps was comprised mostly of 7th graders. And yes, 25 -30 participants is too many if the expectation is playing time. I will just say it stepped out of the philosphy of the Jr Football League. The mission purpose of instructional football. If it worked for you as a coach, that is great... but my feelings are it was not in the best interest for all the 7th and 8th grade youth of Ft Thomas who wanted to continue to participate in instructional football.
