I expect a physical and very close contest with JC. I was just asking for some info on what is shaping up on the other side of the brackets. Did I touch a nerve or what? :confused: Highlands has a very good team this year. As good as last year's? That debate is still in progress. Anything can happen when you get to the finals... anything! Wow... I was out of town all last weekend and just now catching up on all the playoffs. Didn't know that BG fell. Best of Luck to either team... enjoy the fun and run to the State Finals!

But Ohhh, what a land of humanity he left in his wake! #22 J-Lo, Pillsbury Thro Boy, Hefty Lefty come to mind? When Tony makes up his mind to run... he is able to get yardage by not running around would-be tacklers but through 'em.

I heard all along that JH will be the team to represent the West at the Pizza Box in December... I am suprised they were beat by Doss for the District Championships. Will either team have the firepower to get by Bowling Green and on to the State Finals?

Thaaat's right... anything is possible! I was at the 2002 Rockcastle game... Rock had one heck of a running back and O line that just tore the Birds apart between the tackles. I do not expect the JC O line to manhandle the 'Birds D line in this contest. It may be a battle for a few quarters... but the HHS depth will prevail. Don't think a running clock will be visiting this contest... unless the 'Birds jump up quick and JC caves. I don't think that is going to be case.

I am confident he will make a full recovery and ready more-than-ever to play ball for Ashland next year! Prayers and well wishes were answered...

Actually, I thought Covington Catholic would have given them a much better game. I was taking into account Cov Cath's tough schedule, and especially, their historical strong post season play. Apparently, I gave coach Dave Brossart and Staff too much credit to repeat the trend left by Rodenberg and Ray. Also, my prediction was just 2 weeks removed from watching JC play against winless Montgomery County. A contest that I did not walk away from terribly impressed. Montgomery was just awfull. Sorry! I, like you, thought favorably towards JC's "skilled" players. I remember three or four standouts that played hard, smart and just plain good smash mouth football throughout the contest. On the other hand, the O and D lines were not very athletic or fleet of foot and appeared to wear down as the lop-sided game progressed against Montgomery County. JC's line reminded me of the big O and D lines we faced last year against Letcher and Lincoln County during the "mountain football" playoffs. (Remember the lad called "Rooster?") Very nice size, but slow and "well done" before 4th Quarter play. My prediction, IMO, JC will be no different that what the Birds fans witnessed last year against the aformentioned football teams. I have already commented on the kicking games... punts and lack of depth on kick-offs will certainly provide the "Birds" favorable field position throughout the contest. I see the Birds getting up quick on O and the Birds D playing with a lot of emotion in honor of their fallen comrade, Brandon Roller. The Highlands fans will find JC having one of the best, if not the best athletic facilities in the Bluegrass state. I applaud their efforts in securing the dreams and then funds to build such a nice complex for their students and for their community. Well done! :thumb:

I have seen LC play this year... I will respectfully reply that this is not the same calibre LC squad from last year or from the title team from a couple of years ago. I have not seen BC play this year... but will go with a close Danville contact and say BC walks away with a big Rebel win.

The key word is arguably... this is a very well coached and good Highlands squad this year. Calling this year's team the best of all time is certainly questionable. The Highlands' team is very good. The level of competition is down in N Ky this year and the 'Birds schedule was not nearly as challenging as Covington Catholic.

Brandon plays TE on offense and all over the field on defense! Game will played in Paintsville.

How do you think the loss of Brandon's services will affect the calibre of play on offense and defense Friday evening? Who will be stepping in to fill the void left by Brandon's injury?

Great post... I think many of us not affiliated with the program could answer many of your questions... It will be interesting to sit back and see what direction the folks at the top of the food chain, the decision makers, want the program to go... the athletes, parents and fans of Cov Cath football deserve better!

I have attended numerous Highlands games this year and also had the opportunity to see JC play. I will have to agree with all of your assesments regarding the JC squad. I think you are right on the mark... I also noticed that JC does not kick the ball deep on the kick-offs... If they plan to give the 'Birds the ball on the 40, like the JC vs. Montgomery County game, the short field will facilitate numerous and quick scoring opportunites for the 'Birds potent offense. (AS I recall, the PAT was a struggle as well.) Therefore a 'Birds three to four touchdown differential is quite realistic! Go BIRDS...

Any chance this match-up will be broad casted on ICN-6, Insight Cable? Does Ashland web-cast their games? Looks like I will be traveling this weekend and will not be able to enjoy Friday night's action... during and after the game!

I am thinking about 4,000 on the home team side and about 250 on the visiting team's side... :thumb: I will say, a very nice facility indeed... one of the best in Kentucky. Plus, you have a McDonald's right behind the stadium. What more could one ask for?

I am thinkin' the greatest danger and risk of injury is the cannon crew, with cannon, falling through the roof and into the visiting team's locker room. Some of them boys weigh more than the cannon!

I have seen both squads play this year... I am going with the Blue men from Park Hills. I saw JC pass the ball twice in the game that I saw against Montg. County. Both attempts fell incomplete. (If I was the defensive co-ordinator at Cov Cath - I would go with 11 in the box.) JC's kicking game and special teams do not match that of Cov Cath. Some fine athletes on both teams... I just see Cov Cath pulling away fast and continuously in this contest.

Just want to add to the compliments aimed towards the Defenders... Best Coached Team the 'Birds have faced all year! The coaches were obviously prepared for the game. The kick-offs and and punts were placed perfectly. Offense took advantage of some mometary weaknesses on our Defense. The BS Defense had sucess the "majority" of the evening stopping the 'Birds big plays. Most importantly, the staff had the Defenders up the entire game. BS fans... Not many in attendance but very supportive of their squad throughout the contest. I think BS will be a legit 6A contender in the near future. Too much talent to settle for anything less.
