I was going to stay out of this thread, but I can't let it go. BJ Nagle is a kid and he deserves better than your commentary. Remember, this is a kid that was uprooted for his senior year of high school. That is a tough load for any kid to carry. He lost the teamates he spent three years with. He came into a highly visible situation under a lot of pressure, some of it supplied by the over the top expectations of the same adults that now use "dismal" to describe him. I am sure he has done his best. If the coaches believe that they have a better chance to win with a different QB, so be it, but leave the personal assaults on a kid out of it. I hope that the coaches don't care who the fans or the team wants to see.

The goal, as always, is to be the best they can be. I have heard the coaches talk and the goal is always the state title. The national rankings are fun, but the only thing the team can control is what happens in Kentucky.

Hasn't Houk been starting at QB fot the Tiger JV team? Will they play him Monday?

I nearly always find that when I watch a replay of a game the officials do a much better job than they did when I was watching the same game in person. The only "bias" that I have seen is that in games that aren't close, sometimes the underdog gets a little benefit. I always thought that when the game was not on the line, Jason Hatcher was the victim of a lot of holds from overmatched players.

In general, that was the expectation every year. Seneca pulled the upset over Flaget in 65. Butler beat Trinity in 70 and Thomas Jefferson tied Flaget in 71. Other than that, the city champ won all of the 3A titles under the old set up.

To me, yes. Male was the big dog in town at that time. I think it had been four YEARS since Trinity had even scored on Male. It was a big deal to beat them. The city champion was expected to win the state title, so to me, yes.

There are some traditions that will never change. If someone tried, the old grads would revolt. The first is "Trinity Forever" at the end of the pregame prayer. The second is that logo. Hellbird may see a big pile of poop, but in a way, that might be appropriate. It would be the big pile of poop in the other teams pants when they step on the field and see that helmet emblem accross the field.

I was at that game. As much as I hated to lose, that Holy Cross team was one of the happiest I've ever seen. You had to feel good for them. In no order, the three happiest teams I've ever seen were Trinity over Male in the 68 city final, Holy Cross over Trinity in 91 and Trinity over X in OT in the state final.

No. In the first few years the school was known as Holy Trinity High School. There is a parish known as Holy Trinity parish a few blocks away. To avoid confusion, Trinity droped the Holy part. Trinity is located at the old site of Holt Trinity parish.

What is there to say? For the third time this season, Trinity will come into the game as the underdog. I wouldn't spend too much time searching the rcord books if I were you. Not likely to need the record book from either side.

Well, the Trinity schedule is a happy accident. Trinity was quite content to play the best local schedule they could. Then someone got the bright idea that they could punish Trinity by refusing to play them. Then Trinity was forced to put together a schedule that included some of the best teams from the surounding states. They found that they got better. They also found that they could make a LOT of money with that schedule. They also found that the whole country would notice. Now, kids can dream of coming to Trinity and not only will they get to run on to the field in front of 35,000 at PJCS, they will also run on to the field in front of a national audience on one of the ESPN stations. They can go on a national web site and find out that people all over the country know their name. Will Trinity refuse to play local teams in the future? I doubt it, but also don't look for a schedule with seven non district games against local schools.

I think that part of the problem is that Coach Glaser was pushed out the 31st floor window and the rumors I hear are that Coach Wolford's fingerprints were all over Coach Glaser's back. The thinking in tiger town was that the only reason X wasn't in total control of Ky football was coaching. If the new coaches come in and the team doesn't look as well coached as they used to be, don't expect the new guy to get a long honeymoon.

I know that is a widespread belief at X. I've heard it a bunch of times. They just find it hard to understand that some families, free to choose, prefer Trinity.

Nope, not at all. In fact, left alone they would be no better. They are kids. They need leadership. Look at the student section at any Trinity game. You will see teachers, most of the time lead by Dr. Mullen, ready to stop kids that get out of line. That is my point. If the X administration had wanted to stop it, they could have chosen to do so. They may have regretted it later. They may have wished they had done more. They may may have been embarrassed by it. When the time came to step up and lead, they stood and watched. What happened at the football game the following fall indicates to me that they didn't even take the chance to teach after the fact. And by the way, the PeeWee Herman defense, "I know you are, but what am I?" is not persuasive.

That basketball game was as ugly as anything I have ever seen. I was really proud of our guys for ignoring it and playing right through. I was also proud of our student section for not responding in kind.

I was at the basketball game. It started when the players were introduced and continued from the student section the entire game. I was at the football game. It happened when Quick was injured and it continued as they wheeled him off on a back board. If the administration doesn't like it they have shown themselves to be unable or unwilling to stop it. If the former coaching staff didn't like it they did nothing to stop the team from participating. You can try to pretend that the indefensible didn't happen, but I was there. You may not be able to change my opinion, but you also can't change the facts.

He/she may not speak for the entire X community, but they do speak for far too many. I was at the basketball game when the nasty and racist chants coming out of the X students were not stopped by the X administration or any other adult. I was at the football game when the X students and adults celebrated James Quick being injured and leaving in a neck brace and on a back board. I'm sure it isn't everyone at X and maybe it isn't even most, but until the good people at X put a stop to what has been coming out of the X community the past few years, it will continue to be my impression of what has become of X.

I have a question for Guru. Prior to the scrimmages last Friday, would the top two in 6A have been in the same slots?

A little trivia. If I get any of the particulars wrong, someone correct me. Up until 1973, the winner of the old Louisville City region played the winner of the Jefferson County region for the 3A title. Only one team from the city region made the playoffs. In 1973, the city region was split into two districts, with the winner of each district playing for the regional title. Bishop David won the regular season match with Trinity. Under the 1972 alignment, only Bishop David would have advanced to the playoffs. Under the 1973 setup, Trinity won their district and Bishop David won theirs. Trinity won in the playoffs and went on to the 3A title, beating a Southern team with a quarterback named Phil Simms. Whatever happened to him? I thought he might have a chance to play after high school.
