Have Trinity's Goals And Expectations Changed?

First off, are we actually underrating Trinity this year due to their losses to regional powers?

Secondly, there doesn't seem to be as much build up for the Trinity and St. Xavier game this year as in years past. Maybe that will change as the week progresses though, and that made me wonder about the final thought.

Has Trinity "turned the corner" and left Kentucky High School Football behind, for the time being at least? This would imply that state championships are basically expected, and the goal is now to get on the same level as national powers???

Some examples of these schools would be teams like: Katy (Houston), Long Beach Poly (California), St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale), John Curtis (Louisiana), St. John Boscoe (California), De La Salle (California), Moeller (Cincinnati), et al.

Has Trinity "turned the corner" where Kentucky championships are the expectation, and they are now trying to build their program to the level of the aforementioned schools and not only play, but win against nationally recognized opponents on a consistent basis?

Thoughts?

The summer hype for this game has worn off because of the records of both teams. But as an outsider I don't think the goals and expectations for T has changed. They have been playing a regional schedule for the last few years, and I assume they are going to continue to do so in order to reach and win a KY state championship.

The classes they had the last few years were some of the best KY has seen, but I don't think they have left everyone in dust. I guess that is more of my hope...we'll find out Friday if the gap has closed or not.

Trinity's ultimate goal has been and always will be winning the state championship because that's the one that they control and that they actually play for. Trust me when I say that the people on this board pay much more attention to the "national rankings" then anyone actually connected to the Trinity program.

Kudos to them if that's the case. If I were a high school senior and the state championship were as much of a formality as it has been for them (i.e., we were shocked when someone played them close in the semis, even when arguably their best player was put out of the game), then I know I'd be just as focused on a mythical national championship and national ranking as anything else.

Being kids, you know it has to creep into their minds.

Agree that the coaching staff may make their first goal winning a state title, but with as many as Trinity has, wouldn't you think you set your sights on bigger prizes? Wouldn't this be especially true when the bigger goals mean you'd have to necessarily accomplish the smaller ones as well?

I KNOW that Trinity's ultimate goal every year is winning the state championship and that hasn't changed. If doing that gets them ranked #1 in some subjective poll then that's icing on the cake. The "national rankings" are actually played down because they are so subjective.

Hard to say. The Trinity team we were blessed to see the last two seasons was a machine and quite possibly the best Ky High School football team(s) ever. I think to compare any Trinity team before and after that group is unfair to Trinity and other Ky teams as well. We may never see anything like that again in high school football in our state.

I can see results growing exponentially though.

With the way Trinity has scheduled recently (haven't looked at their past schedules... at least from the 80's/early 90's), but in 2004, they only played 2 out of state teams. Definitely a change from the past few years.

With the movement of their schedule, I think they have bigger goals in mind, whether those or stated or not.

Nothing "subjective" about beating a national power to be ranked ahead of them in my eyes though. The 2012 Trinity squad at least deserved to be ranked ahead of Elder, Cincinnati St. X, Indianapolis Cathedral, Elder, Montgomery Bell, and Brentwood.

Add those up and you have a strong argument for best in the nation.

Trinity's recent scheduling has been as much of a function of people being unwilling to play them as it has been on any desire to "elevate" the program. That being said if the regional schedule makes Trinity a more attractive program again that just icing on the cake.

I am sorry but I do not buy that for a second. If Trinity was undefeated right now many on this board (predominately Trinity folks) would be saying how they are the top or one of the top teams in the nation. Now winning state may be the #1 priority because they can control that, but I am not buying the national ranking is something that is dismissed as you insinuate.

And for the record it is nothing to be ashamed of in trying to be the best in the nation. Go for it and embrace it.

Re-read my first post. The people on this board are the ones that will make hay about it. The people from within the actual program have and continue to play it down.

Trinity's goals will be changing after they lose to St. X this week.

How so? Trinity's goal is to win the state championship. If Trinity loses to X this week nothing would have happened to keep that from happening. Trinity has lost district games in the past and won a state championship the same year. Trinity has lost to X in the regular season and won a state championship that same year in some years turning thr tables on X in the playoffs of the championship game. So please explain how losing this week would cause Trinity to change their goals. :idunno:
