bugatti
Re-read my first post. The people on this board are the ones that will make hay about it. The people from within the actual program have and continue to play it down.I read it a few times and why I quoted it initially and I stand by my position Teams and programs can hide behind cliches but we are all still human and want to be regarded as the best. It is convenient after a few losses to say, "all of our goals are still in tact", when it is not the case. The only way Trinity can fail is by losing the state title, but I do not think is far-fetched to say not all goals were attained even if they win out. Again, that is not a bad a thing and I would not take it as a criticism.

PurplePride92
Not played down by the players. Very true. I have seen players at lesser schools proud to be in the 300s in the nation. No way is a team in the top 50 without the players being extremely proud and no way is a team in the top 25 nationwide not have players gunning for the top spot at some point. Reading comprehension is becoming a problem on this board. Yes the players pounded their chests a few years ago and were rightly proud of what they accomplished, yes the players talk about national rankings but the question that was posed was Have Trinity's goals and expectations changed? and I can tell you with 100% certainty that they haven't. PurplePride92
And you said that no one in the Trinity program 'played it up' about the national rankings and we are saying....uhhhh...the kids that played the games 'played it up'. JokersWild24
Agree with much of the sentiment here. If I were from the Trinity camp, I'd be saying our biggest focus was winning a state title and whatever else that we couldn't really control would be icing on the cake. If I were running the program, though I might not state it publicly (and understandably so), I think I'd look for new ways to keep improving. Since winning a state title has been something that's been achieved so many times that it's become routine, I would think they have new goals in mind, and there's nothing wrong with that. My point is basically that, if their goal is only to win state titles, they've reached a plateau. I'm guessing that you don't get to the level Trinity's at without finding new ways to challenge yourself, and constantly finding ways to keep that drive. It's a good problem to have. I'd compare it to Nick Saban at Alabama right now. I do agree that the interstate matchups between Trinity and other schools are a product of Kentucky schools unwillingness to schedule them, at least in large part, but I also wonder what good it would do Trinity to play a Fern Creek, Doss, Fairdale, etc. on a yearly basis when they'd most likely just roll them. The fact is, at this point in time, there are only a handful of Kentucky teams that can even play competitively with Trinity (St. Xavier, Scott County, etc.). I see nothing wrong with Trinity trying to "broaden their horizons" and seek new challenges. I actually think it's admirable and what a true "champion" would do. You get better by playing better competition. If Trinity keeps progressing though, I wonder what type of 'dynasty' they'll end up building. Like PurplePride92 said, they have a team that's unlike any that Kentucky has seen in some time. The scary part is though, that the best may be yet to come... Trinity's ultimate goal has been and always will be winning the state championship because that's the one that they control and that they actually play for. Trust me when I say that the people on this board pay much more attention to the "national rankings" then anyone actually connected to the Trinity program. What I said was that the people on this board pay more attention to it then the people connected with the program. I stand by that. Never said no one cared. If they haven't, then that's a problem to me. It's a good problem to have, and that's their choice, but it may be one that lets the field catch up to them. Spoiled by their own success may describe them in a few years if there aren't new challenges laid out in front of them. Not saying it's guaranteed to happen, only that if I were a Trinity fan and it wasn't a goal, I might find it worrisome.

loubballfan
I would not be surprised at all for Trinity to lose this game then come back and win the rematch in the playoff game as they have done so often in the past ten years. Beatty has never shown all his cards in the regular season game and I wouldn't expect him too this year either. It seems that he is always focused on having the team peaking in the playoffs and winning state. That being said, if X shoots themselves in the foot with suspect play calling or turnovers, it could be a long night for X.
RockPride
Goal hasn't changed.....winning state is the only thing that we can control. Now....winning them all is always a goal, and that didn't happen....so I guess you could move on to plan b.....which is likely winning all that are left. Kids look at rankings, adults look at rankings.....but they aren't a goal at this point.

I was making my comment on the goals of the team and added thoughts on game as I thought it was relevant.
