  1. My understanding is that it had been under discussion for about five years. There was a lot of study, visits to schools with programs in place, surveys of parents and students etc. In other words, a lot of due diligence. No particular incident, just a general feeling that with all of the pressure on kids today to do the wrong things, anything the school can do to help them do the right things should be done. After reading the letters from the school, the FAQs and the written policy, I think it is an excellent program and should serve as a model for other schools.
  2. Read the program. There is a link in an earlier post. It does just what you are calling for.
  3. If you look at the program, the goal is to NOT kick them out of school. Expulsion is a last resort for kids that won't work on the problem. I was reassured by the quote from the school in Kansas City and just lost their first student to the program. The full program and some information sheets are on the Trinity web site. I took the time to read it all. It is a well thought out, student based program. Trinity High School
  4. To me, the weakest argument in favor of testing is the idea that the students "represent the school". We all take pleasure when one of ours does something great. We are all embarrassed when one of ours screws up. This program has to be focused on taking care of our kids and doing everything possible to help them as they mature. It would be easier to just pretend that our kids never screw up and get rid of the ones that do, but if Trinity is serious about the idea of the "Trinity family", then working to help them get it right is the only reasonable course of action.
  5. I'd be interested in hearing why you think this initiative won't help. I can understand objections based on privacy or overreach, but to say that it won't help needs some reasons why. I have read all of the information on the program. The emphasis is on helping kids, not punishment. It is in addition to robust education efforts.
  6. I think you can count on fair treatment. Again, read the program. The emphasis is on caring for the kids, not punishment.
  7. Take a look at the program. Emphasis is on prevention, not punishment. The program looks well thought out and caring.
  8. Trinity is governed by a board that makes major policy decisions, sets budgets etc. One of the members of that board is the senior class president.
  9. Ryan is a fine young man. He has also served as the student member of the Trinity School Board. As such he is a full voting member of the school's governing board.
  10. Congratulations Coach and welcome to Louisville.
  11. I am not a moderator, but if any of this discussion is about a kid, end it now.
  12. Yes, Jeep Quire from the start to 1963 did not win a title. Paulie Miller (1964), no title, Chuck Servino (1995 through 1998) no title, Kevin Wright (1998) no title. Coach Quire back in the early days is the only one to stay more than a year without a title. During Dennis Lampley's first stint as coach (1978 and 1979 he also didn't win one, but he came back as coach from 1985 through 1994 and won five.
  13. I'll take a stab at this one. Trinity would have replaced Coach Beatty with a top coach. That is how it has been done for 50 years. That said, the last 15 years under Coach Beatty have been very special, even by Trinity standards. I don't know if anyone, even Coach Beatty can make the next 15 just as good, but count on it. Trinity will set the pace for Kentucky.
  14. I should have clued you in. Trinity's top rival in this area is the St X Tigers. No offense was meant to Bentonville. It was just a little local joke.
  15. Wait a minute. Is the Bentonville nickname Tigers? That explains it. Why would anyone go to a place named Tigers.
  16. From Mr. Mom. Regarding voltage, 220, 221 whatever it takes.
  17. I wanted to wait a couple of days. I thought Trinity looked bored for most of the game. That is not a good sign going forward. This team has a chance to be special. They were not special Friday.
  18. That doesn't surprise me. The entire athletic department has made that a point of emphasis.
  19. That rewards the top teams with a bye and costs their athletic departments their share of the first round gate receipts. I think it is fine the way it is. I would prefer that the districts were more even in numbers, but the way they have handled it makes a lot of sense to me.
  20. The link above works. They are labeled as Donald Brooks and Donald Brooks Part 11. Look at the bottom of the page on the Beatty portion.
  21. Parts 2 and 3 of the series are available at the link posted above.
  22. I hope that no one on the team is listening to you. They need to run the offense the COACH gives them and take the shots available in that offense. It isn't about showcasing one player. If by posting hard Ray can draw the defense and get other guys open, he is doing a great job.
  23. I'm starting to feel old. I've been around for all of them.
  24. This was a season that had a chance to go bad. Congratulations to all of the coaches. I heard Coach Beatty speak to a group early last summer. He talked about how hard he was pushing this group. They were playing a tough national schedule without necessarily all of the talent needed for that tough schedule. There is a fine line between pushing to achieve and pushing to the point where they quit on you. A superb coaching job to know the difference.
