  1. One of the things I really like about this team is that when everyone is really playing hard, Trinity doesn't have to pack it in to defend the middle. Everyone can play really tight and count on Spalding to erase any errors.
  2. That's what it sounded like to me. In that case, why force it?
  3. It should be a fun time at Rupp. My question about this team all year was whether they had the mental toughness of the 2012 team. Last night they did. If they keep that up I like our chances. The 2012 run started with a come from behind win over Ballard. Let's hope history repeats.
  4. I wasn't at last nights game so I can't comment, but in the games I've seen Trinity goes inside when it is open but doesn't force it. It sounds to me like Ballard was determined to not let Spaulding beat them. Okay, he didn't, the other guys did.
  5. I was following Jason Frakes and Joey Porter on twitter and BGP on the computer. Almost wore out my computer and my phone. I hated to miss a great game. Conrats Rocks.
  6. Wait a minute. You closed a business becauase some one MIGHT raise the minimum wage? Yeah, that makes sense.
  7. I am strongly in favor of alowing the drunks to be heavily armed. Then Darwin can improve the quality of the herd.
  8. I reject the notion that either Barak Obama or John McCain is evil. They each have political positions I support and positions I oppose. That doesn't make them evil. The real evil in our civic life is the notion that somehow anyone that doesn't agree with me is evil and intent on destoying the country.
  9. From what I have read there are national studies that indicate that minority students tend to receive harsher discipline for the same infraction. I doubt that many principals would set out to be overtly racist, but there does seem to be evidence of bias. I don't know you Commando, so I will assume that you make all of your judgement calls with no bias whatsoever. I do have one question though. This information was put out jointly by the Justice and Education departments. The one I have seen on television discussing it is Education Secretary Arnie Duncan. Any reason you chose to only focus on AG Holder?
  10. There is not a single public school kid on the Trinity team. Every kid on the team, every kid in the school is a Trinty kid.
  11. It is nice that the one Coach the CJ found it necessary to interview was Coach Beatty.
  12. Is the "he" you are refering to Coach Beatty? Unclear antecedent. If you are refering to Coach Beatty, he has won several titles when I believe there were other schools with more talent. What the record shows is that with lesser talent he will contend for the state title. With good talent he will win the state title. With great talent he will win the national title.
  13. Bob is about 58 or 59. He graduated from school in 78. Not too late to answer a new challenge. I hope he stays at Trinity, but he has earned the right to do as he wishes with the thanks and blessings of all at Trinity.
  14. Not my intent to get snippy. I suspect that most of us have the same aims. I approach health insurance as both a consumer of medical care and as an employer. In the years I have been dealing with it, I have only had one year where I thought that the insurance company was trying to "slow walk" our employees to deny coverage. They were not our carrier a second year. Other than that, my experience has been that insurance carriers have tried hard to fullfill the terms of their contract - and not a penny more. That doesn't bother me. If I get quotes from several carriers and take the one that is most attractive, it doesn't bother me that the carrier might raise the price or refuse to renew if the assumptions they made when they quoted the first year don't work out. I'll disagree a little that there is no insurance reform in the ACA. It sets minimum standards for what constitutes a health insurance policy. To me that is an absolute requirement to make any system that mandates coverage of pre-existing conditions viable. I'll admit that for our company, the ACA has very little effect. The requirements of the ACA were for the most part things that we had to do inorder to attrack employees. I understand that that is not true for all employers. I do disagree that the the ACA will be harmful to the consumer. If anything, it will be a great benefit to consumers. Many years ago, one of my sons was offered a plan by his then employer that had an annual maximum benefit of $3,000. That is not health insurance. The ACA eliminates those kinds of plans. That is a consumer benefit. There will be disruption in the market. The carriers will do their best to negotiate with providers for the lowest rates they can. That is their job. The providers will do their best to negotiate the most favorable rates they can. They should. Welcome to the marketplace. That is how every other business works. It will force the providers to get smarter and more efficient. Good. Some providers won't be able to adapt. That is also how it works. I used to shake my head when I would go into a doctors office and see a wall of paper files and realize that the same industry that operates at the cutting edge of technical advancement was storing information with 19th century technology.
  15. A few random thoughts. I am not a doctor and I have never run a medical practice. I do however know quite a few doctors. They all appear to live an upper class to wealthy lifestyle, as they should. I don't expect that to change. About ten years ago my sister had to change doctors because her doctor no longer accepted her insurance. Was that the fault of the ACA? I chose to change dentist because he no longer accepted my insurance. Was that the fault of the ACA? Over the past 20 years or so when I have been involved in group insurance renewal negotiations, I am sure I could count on one hand and have fingers left over the number of times we could just renew the previous year's plan. Did the insurance industry anticipate the ACA requirements 20 years ago and start changing plans every year? Where is the confidence in the "invisible hand" of the marketplace? If the insurance plans don't pay providers enough to attract enough providers to keep plan purchasers happy, the plans will have to up what they pay or people will move to other plans. That is how it is supposed to work. An earlier poster quoted George Will saying that when employers start dropping plans, "all hell will break loose". I say, bring it on. Employer based insurance needs to go. It came about so that people could get the advantages of group rates and because of the very favorable tax treatment that employer based insurance enjoys. The ACA allows everyone to get group rates. The next step is to equalize the tax treatment. At that point, I'll be happy to add what the company spends on insurance to employee pay and let people pick the plan that works best for their family.
  16. If you accept the premise that participation in sports is good for the development of kids, (and if they aren't then they have no place in schools) then participation should be encouraged for as many kids as possible. At my grandkids' school they just keep forming teams until they run out of kids. I don't know if there are minimum playing time requirements in basketball, but all of the kids play. I think they have five 5th and 6th grade boys basketball teams. They play in A, B and C leagues. The CSAA in Louisville runs a great sports program. At the high school level, wherever it is feasible, Trinity sports are no cut. There are no cut sports available in all seasons. If you are willing to do the work, you are part of the team. Again, if team sports are good for kids, they should be available to all kids.
  17. It is good for 6A football that we have a year with no Louisville teams in the big school title game. As I've said many times before, it is good for someone other than Trinity to win the title. I always add, just not this year. Well, it is this year. We'll be back. I'm making my plans for next year in Bowling Green.
  18. Because they areJCPS. It is what they do. Most of them won't even allow radio.
  19. I find that hard to believe, but if true, he should be gone. I also have some questions about the administrators that allowed boosters to fire Mike Glaser and dictate the new coaching staff. Not their finest moment.
  20. Has there been any discussion at Tigertown about Coach Wolford refusing to speak to the press after the game? That was a little surprising considering that he has dealt with much more aggressive press in college and the NFL.
  21. This will be an interesting game. Trinity's offense may have had their worst game of this season against Male and still managed to stay within ten points. I expect Trinity's incomparable brain trust to have a great game plan. There were a few things in the last game that might provide a little motivation, but I suspect that moving on will be all the motivation that is needed. I don't expect "we will rock you" from the PA and I expect that if the teams want to shake hands after the game the students won't be an issue. Make it Trinity 35, Male 24.
  22. This will be another close one but look for a ten point Trinity win.
  23. AD Dennis Lampley was the big guy in the search. The first time the job was offerred to Coach Beatty, he turned it down because his daughter was entering her senior year of high school. The job was given to Coach Kevin Wright (also an excellent choice and the current coach at Carmel in Indianapolis). For family reasons, Coach Wright had to leave after one year. At the time, Coach Beatty was thinking of leaving coaching because he didn't feel the administration at his school was as serious about football as he was. Coach Lampley called and it has worked out well for everyone involved.
