  1. In the section where I was no one had to encourage the fans. I don't think it was coach Glaser's karma. I think Coach Klein played his flawed hand the best he could. The X kids gave it all they had. I'm not sure I have ever seen kids play any harder than the Trinity kids did in that 4th quarter comeback. It was a great game to watch.
  2. I think the announcers got it right. The kid never came out of the game and the ball was in his hands most of the time X had the ball. When it wasn't, he was moving and cutting trying to get open. The X coach was in a tough spot. Take him out and X gets blown out. Leave him in and he runs out of gas.
  3. I saw two teams that left it all on the court. No shame in that. It is a shame that some fans can't see that. Please enlighten us.
  4. I'll give you one nine year period out of around 100 you've been playing.
  5. I don't buy the ND/X comparison. ND is a formerly dominant team that has fallen to the group just below the top. X has been part of the just below the top group for as long as I can remember (and that is a LONG time). X used to run second fiddle to Male and Manual. Then it was Flaget and Male. For a long time it was just Trinity. Now it is Trinity and Male. I can't remember a sustained stretch where X was the big dog.
  6. I believe that the KY constitution prohibits any public money being used for non-public schools.
  7. Just a guess, but I'd bet there was a lot more discontent on the X side Friday night on the Trinity side. At least among the "X Faithfull" that were there for the end.
  8. Nothing, unless best person for the job isn't an X-man, then, everything.
  9. Well then, please tell us what has changed. The last time I checked all of the players were Trinity students. That hasn't changed since 1953. Go on. Spit it out. You know you want to. Only an X-man could try to make welcoming anyone that wants what we have to offer seem like a vice. In case you were wondering what it is that we have to offer, "Trinity is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school, forming men of faith and men of character".
  10. Or maybe he doesn't know his rump from a hot rock. That's the one I'm going with. The comments about "appeasing" Coach Beatty made me laugh and shows how little he knows.
  11. What the devil are you talking about? Coach Beatty had nothing to do with Coach Lampley's decision to start a transition. As far as the rest of your "change direction" comments, what is popping into my head is so abhorrent, that I won't make the accusation. What did you mean by your comments? Please be specific.
  12. I have mostly stayed out of this thread because I don't really care that St X has fallen to number three among local schools instead of the second spot they have occupied for most of the past fifty years. Veiled aspersions were cast at Trinity and when people didn't take the bait the aspersions became more pointed. That's when I decided to jump in. A few facts: 1. Trinity does not offer one penny of financial aid that does not conform to the letter and spirit of KHSAA rules. End of story. 2. Trinity offers the finest education available to all comers, whether they score in single digits or at the 99th percentile. To steal a phrase, we educate these young men to the best of our ability, not because they are Catholic, but because we are Catholic. 3. We offer as much financial aid as we can, and more than anyone else, again because it is important that we be accessible to as many young men as possible. We are an elite school. If we ever become an elitist school we have violated our mission. 4. Young men of very diverse backgrounds come to school at Trinity because they are welcomed. Funny how that works. And now an opinion. This stuff about not wanting to over emphasize football as an excuse for being number three is manure. X got into its current position because a group of wealthy alumni were able to pressure the administration into getting rid of the long time coach with a promise that they could do better with one of their own. I think that they were convinced that flashing a super bowl ring would be all it took. They were wrong. I had the opportunity to see Coach Beatty and Coach Wolford speak to a grade school football team. Coach Beatty spoke about all of the hard work and dedication it takes to play for Trinity and the rewards of that hard work, He bluntly told the kids that Trinity football wasn't for everyone, but was great for those willing to do the work. Coach Wolford said he was the St X coach, St X was a great school and he played in the super bowl. Then he introduced one of his players and by the way, did I mention that I played in the super bowl. He said that St X was expecting a great season, and by the way, did I mention that I played in the super bowl.
  13. You guys talk as if someone makes a decision about whether to admit athletes. The truth is that hundreds of families make a decision about what will be best for their child. For most, football is a minor factor. For top athletes, maybe it is a little more than that. The family chooses the school, not the other way around. It still comes down to doing what is best for your child.
  14. I hope that all of the kids for both teams are healthy and ready to go. These are high school kids with finite careers. One of the most disgusting things I have ever seen on a football field was the St X fans, adults and kids, cheering when James Quick left on a back board in a neck brace. I want to win as much as anyone, but keep it in perspective.
  15. I think that people are forgetting that X has no visitors stands to speak of. Having it on either campus is a bad idea.
  16. From your keyboard to Wolford's ear. If X tries to throw deep on Trinity, several of those deep passes will be intercepted. The rest will be incomplete.
  17. It is good that the federal exchange is there to backstop KYNECT. I am much more worried about what will happen to the people on expanded Medicaid.
  18. Why? Are only republicans allowed to claim religion? Not a great speech, but not much wrong with what he said. Democrats have allowed republicans to paint them as anti religion. Democrats have allowed republicans to paint themselves as the guardians of morality. I disagree with one thing he said. Democrats did not do a good job of communicating Democratic values. Conway ran a campaign that was based on a strategy of "vote for me because the other guy is a bad man". That strategy works sometimes (see Mitch McConnell his entire career), but in order for it to work, you have to be one really mean SOB (again see Mitch McConnell) and you have to have at least a little something you can exaggerate. Conway wasn't nearly mean enough to pull it off (I suspect Conway is a fairly nice guy.) And painting Bevin as a bad man wasn't going to work. I disagree with Bevin on almost everything, but he comes across to me as a good man. Being mean enough to run an almost exclusively negative campaign is a rare talent (see Mitch McConnell). For most people, you must present a positive vision. Running a campaign based on what he would have pushed as governor may not have been enough to get Conway elected, but losing while presenting your ideas is far better than losing while presenting nothing because you are afraid people might not like your ideas. Let me be clear. I don't have any problems with negative ads that point out how bad the oppositions ideas are. There was plenty of room to run those ads against Bevin. For the most part, those ads never ran.
  19. Regardless of the reason, I wish them well at their new school. It is too bad that they will miss out on the benefits of a Trinity education.
  20. X has played the big two very tough, with a chance to win both games. Good for them. On the other hand, Male and T gift wrapped the game for X and still managed to win. Hmmm.
  21. I He said in his finest Thurston Howell voice. I'm
  22. 1985 playoffs, St X was ahead of Trinity 14-0, late in the 3rd quarter. Late in the quarter Trinity scored a safety. Two fourth quarter touchdowns gave Trinity a 17-14 win on the way to the 1985 title. In 2012, Trinity down to Scott County 14-0 with about 8 minutes left, only to rally for a 21-14 win also ranks up there.
