This is a first time match-up between the Cardinals and Shamrocks. Colerain was founded in 1924. The Cardinals (named after the St. Louis National League baseball team) first football season was 1935. Football was dropped in 1937 and 1938. 6 man teams were fielded from 1939-1947. In 1948, Colerain returned to 11-man football.

Courtesy of MaxPreps:The Cardinals return 11 starters from a year ago-5 on offense and 6 on defense. They were 12-1 in 2012. They won their only state football title in 2004. They are members of the Greater Miami League in Southern Ohio.

The veer is the offense of choice of the Cardinals. Trinity does not see this offense on a regular basis. This is the game I felt would be the most difficult for Trinity prior to the start of the 2013 season.

This could be a very good game.

I'm pretty familiar with Colerain due to family bets go there. They always have a very solid defense which has always been their bread and butter. Their offense is a very strong running offense. They always have a good sized line that can make huge holes for their backs but they also have the speed to get outside.

Should be a great test for the Rocks front 7 and a great test for the rocks.

The Ensworth game and this one against Colerain were the two games that scared me the most for Trinity just because of the physical nature of both ball clubs. Good luck to the Rocks- lets see if they can get back on track!

Can't believe Colerain has only won 1 state title.

They have had great teams but play in one of the most competitive areas of HS football. A lot of great teams. Colerain has only had a great offense and great defense a couple times at the same time. This year could be special for them.

Would likely have won one in 1995 as they were the prohibitive favorite after making the final. Monday of finals week it was found that a backup defensive lineman had been ineligible all year. The team that they had defeated on Friday went on to the final game.

Other years they have had great teams but the road to the finals coming out of southwest Ohio is among the toughest in the country every year.

I would also add the the Cards had no history of success prior to the 90's.

Yeah, having to run that gauntlet of Cincinnati teams makes for a tough playoffs.

Colerain has a very good team this year.

Colerain passed the ball a little more in '12 with Ramsby at QB but on Friday they attempted five passes. I know they have a good 5'5" RB.

Colerain will give the Rocks another loss! :D

Quite likely. Looking forward to a great game!

Colerain is fast and they are very, very good.

I look for them to take this by 2 maybe three scores.

Good luck to both teams play hard stay injury free and give it your all every play.

Trinity has proven this year that they can't play in the ocean, they shoulda stayed in KY lake.

Trinity 27-23.
