What does the Saint Xavier fans think about the hire of Coach Wolford?

If he cannot win a state championship (aka beat Trinity) then I really don't know who else could come in and do it. The pressure is on him from the entire administration, athletic department because if he doesn't turn out to be a good hire, they will look terrible for letting Glaser go. (don't act like he left on his own, he would still be coaching if it was up to him)

 

Especially with all the talent that Wolford is inheriting, I think this season is a fail if they don't win it all. I don't know how much better of an offense you can assemble so let's say the coach under the most pressure is Coach Wolford.

Will Wolford, no question. The powers on Poplar Level are so sick of playing second fiddle that they were willing to push a legend out of the 31st story window. They will look pretty foolish if they don't win. Adding to the pressure is the perception that Coach Wolford, at the very least, opened the window for the pushers. Yeah, that's pressure.

 

If they are tired of "playing second fiddle", what are they going to say about playing third or fourth fiddle?

After a loss to Bowling Green and then announce this, that seems like a really bad idea.

I'd be lying if I said that this hasn't crossed my mind. Even so, I think they will be better by playoff time. Title worthy? No clue.

A brief ad-hoc conversation with a St. X long timer last week indicated that many know that St. X will have to 'go after' the Jefferson County talent - 'like Trinity did'. Traditionally, the core of players at X and T came up through the CSAA. That is changing as the landscape of high school football in the world of all-out open enrollment for the entire county creates a new landscape. Trinity seems to have already 'adapted' to this new landscape. X is well behind it would seem - sticking with the more traditional feeder system that has been in place for decades.

 

This is not to ignite a 'recuiting' or 'publi/private' debate at all. The fact is all of Jefferson County is now open enrollment. It creates a new lanscape in the states largest metro.

One person's viewpoint.

X's players look as good if not better than any school in KY. They are totally stacked talent and size wise. If X can't get it done with this group, they may be permenantly stuck in 2nd place.

I think he can o-10 and if he wins his last 5 games no one will care.

 

In all seriousness, it is still early and one loss that in the grand scheme of their schedule does not mean a whole lot. It's not a district game, it's just a good early season opponent. X's QB does not seem comfortable and the coaches have not figured out their identity on offense yet. I have said it before and I'll say it again, their defense needs some serious work. Changes have to be made with either personnel or scheme.

 

All the doom and glom talk is a little excessive.

I saw the game on my computer. There are many coaches in this state who could take all that talent and do far better than Wolford, Nagle and whoever that DC is.

Which is why you don't hype up coaches because they played in the NFL or even college. Actual coaching experience with proven results are the best gauge of a quality coach!

I think that part of the problem is that Coach Glaser was pushed out the 31st floor window and the rumors I hear are that Coach Wolford's fingerprints were all over Coach Glaser's back. The thinking in tiger town was that the only reason X wasn't in total control of Ky football was coaching. If the new coaches come in and the team doesn't look as well coached as they used to be, don't expect the new guy to get a long honeymoon.
