Wishes for re-alignment

Featured Replies

1. NewCath and Beechwood get into the same district. The playoff games are usually just as fun as the regular season finale.

2. CovCath and Highlands stay in the same class.

3. BG, St. X, Trinity, and Highlands schedule each other. Means nothing but bragging rights, but would be a lot of fun for fans.

4. Mayfield move up to 2A.

5. Central move up to 4A.

I think you will see Mayfield move up to 2A. They are very close now according to the last numbers.

I think Mayfield can only move to 2A if their numbers reach that level, as Buckett said they are close to doing. If I'm not mistaken, they wanted to move to 2A the last time re-alignment was done but was denied for logistical reasons? Seems like I remember something about that but might be wrong.

The KHSAA will only change your class if it is due to travel problems in your district. For example, if Mayfield only had one other 1A team in their district within an hour drive and there was a 2A district with close teams, the KHSAA could let them move up. If there are enough teams close by for a district, the school gets no choice in what class they play in.

Mayfield is almost surely going to be in 2A. Beechwood is the one that is iffy. Based on the latest numbers, Beechwood would be the 2nd or 3rd smallest 2A school. Beechwood needs a good sized freshman class next year to ensure they get to 2A. If Mayfield and Beechwood get to move up, 2A will be a very fun and competitive class.

I like Beechwood and NCC being in different classes. It gives NKY an additional chance of someone going deep into the playoffs.

Additional wish would be for Brossart to move back to 1A for the survival of the program.

I wish they would have a separate class for catholic schools, but that is a entire different can of worms.

If BW and Mayfield moved up that would leave 1A wide open for the taking.

I disagree. I see no reason to do that.

As to wish list, Beechwood would love to be in 2A with Mayfield, New Cath, et al. Hopefully it works out.

What, are you worried that Pope Francis puts the fix in?

That is a sure thing. Brossart should have been 1A the last time they did realignment.

As to the bolded, why do you say that?

I know it's a wish list, but I'd say #1, #4, and #5 have a good chance of happening. I consider #4 a lock, #5 a strong possibility, and #1 borderline. #2 is dicey unless CovCath took a step back in enrollment this year, which I've been told they did not. #3, yep, it's a wish.

What, are you worried that Pope Francis puts the fix in?

Haha. You never know lol

I believe there was a mixup of some sort on their enrollment numbers. Or perhaps it was that Brossart appealed the accuracy of their enrollment number. Whatever it was, if you look at their enrollment numbers, Brossart was right that their enrollment should place them in 1A.

What it was that the last year before the alignment took place, Brossart's enrollment had dropped to 175 males, 26th smallest in the state. They'd been at 190 the previous year, and 210 the year before that. The problem was that the 190 & 210 numbers were the numbers that were used, and Brossart felt that it shouldn't be that way. The reason it is that way is because they take the two years that are available prior to their draft alignment (not arbitrary years as Brossart argues). So for instance they will likely use last year and this year's enrollments to draft the next alignment, which will be done in December 2013 or January 2014. The enrollments for next year (14-15) are irrelevant, as the enrollment for 2010-11 was irrelevant. Brossart basically caught a bit of a bad break in that they didn't get small enough fast enough.

The alternative is using the two years that are immediately prior to the new alignment, which means teams would have almost no time to schedule for the following year. Schedules are typically done by the time they'd announce the alignment let alone approve it.
