What about Bob Cowie former HHS and Berea. Has been head coach at Lincolnton HS in NC and may be looking to come home.

If you are going to pay $8 for admission and the schedule says the game is going to start at 8:00 then why did they start the game early last night. I know many people who had to work, kids had homework etc that came to the second game only and missed the first quarter. They weren't happy at all considering they could only make it to one game and it cost $8.

Forgot to use his KERA - SEEK money on geography. I think we should ask for a refund.

Not sure I agree with all the comments on needing to figure out who is going to play and the combinations etc. Didn't CCH go to all the team summer camps etc? Could it be they are just not that talented? I don't know because I have not seen them play this year.

Supposed to rain in Willamsburg today, Wednesday and Thursday this week according to weather.com. So this could impact both teams running games and might give the receivers an advantage since it will make it harder for the defensive backs to react and cover.

Congratulations to Johnson Central on a well played, hard fought game. Your team executed extremely well and displayed the utmost sportsmanship throughout the game. Your facilities were extremely nice and everyone was very hospitable. Thanks to the radio crew of 98.8 for the pizza and drinks as well as the football show they broadcast on our ride home. Great job and thanks for the kind words. Now to the Birds, wow! You were challenged, you learned quickly you were in a dog fight and worked your tail feathers off to contain the long runs. Heck I couldn't tell who had the ball either! As difficult as it was to bring the JC running backs down you continued to swarm to the ball and play until the whistle blew. Offense - outstanding play! Josh looking like the old Josh and Clint hitting the holes in a hurry. The misdirection worked all night. The problem is you scored so quickly the D couldn't get their breath. AC great defense and you did your job on O with the reverses and dragging the secondary of JC with you wherever you went allowing TG to hit the rest of the boys with those long TD's. One thing I didn't understand was when JC had the ball and the backs were running all over the place and HHS was trying to stop them they got the forward progress. When HHS would stop them in the backfield and the running back continued to fight for yardage and work to see if he could break free, churning his legs until the whistle blew the referee would then move the ball way back up the field. Had the JC running back broken free would the referee blown the play dead? TG way to play....#5 never expected you to put your shoulder down and run him over. Congrats Birds get ready for Whitley!!

Mr. Maile made a career choice many years ago to not teach. If the person teaches at the school then IMO they should be the first person to have the opportunity to coach. If Mr. Maile can contribute I think that is fantastic but the head coach is ultimately responsible for the program and gets to make the decisions. This would go for Coach Schrand as well or any other para professional at any other school not just CovCath.

Don't follow...................loyalty on behalf of Mike Listerman you didn't get that out of the football coach. Coach Maile is a para professional. He has/had a construction company that allows him the flexibility to coach at little to no cost which is why he was on those staffs along with his knowledge. Coaching especially as a para professional is a privilege that really doesn't IMO give you the right to demand anything. Acknowledging Mr. Maile's age and all of the opportunity he has had to coach over the years you would think he would let the young guys have their opportunities. I am not disrespecting Mr. Maile, he is a fine person, but what if every grand parent wanted to coach their grandson or daughter? It is bad enough with the parents. I think Luke is a well grounded young man. He doesn't seem to be boastful or big headed in anyway.

My understanding of all of this is when Kevin Listerman came to CovCath was that he was hired by the school to teach, which neither Schrand or Maile do. Most schools give the first shot to teachers to coach not para professionals. So if Schrand and Maile want to coach they should also teach IMO. Sounds like the administration gave into the pressure of the alumni who were threatening to cut back on donations. I am sure Kevin is very heavy hearted since he didn't think he would be treated by the people of the school he loves the way he and his father have been. Talk about well traveled.....Dick Maile. Nice man but lets see Holy Cross, Notre Dame, CovCath, back to one of those then back to the other etc. I am sure it is all about coaching his grandson at this point. Mike Listerman could have been making a lot more money other places and has been very loyal to CovCath as a teacher first and an assitant for a long, long time and now as the head coach. CovCath is fortunate to have people like him. See the football job. Good luck to Kevin in his job at Colerain. He will do well.

No. Neither teamed played exceptionally well. Don't know the stats but PC made a ton of free throws and HHS missed quite a few.

I think there is a rule that says an administrator cannot coach. Listerman was the Assistant Principal at Highlands and left to go to Harrison County and teach and coach because he could not coach at Highlands.

Agreed it was consistent. If HHS had made their free throws this is a 10+ point game easy. BBHS made their free throws but did not I don't think make a 3 point shot all night. A hard fought game by both teams that will both do well in their respective regions. Good Luck to the Mustangs the rest of the year.

Sounds to me Net that living in the past is exactly what is going on. Alot of things have changed. Demographics, facilities, coaching, kids, parents, how we do things etc. Getting back to the dynasty......yes we all want our teams to win especially those steeped in tradition. But the fact is things change. And did anyone ever think it is not the coaches fault that the kid quit. It might be the parent who cant deal with the fact that the kid won't be a star or doesn't get the playing time they think is correct. There are so many factors today that coaches and educators must deal with for the pay that most of us who had the kind of scrutiny of our jobs like they do could not handle it.

Coach Henley does not get enough credit for the job he does at Holmes. To deal with all of the issues he deals with and continue to win speaks volumes. Don't count the Bulldogs out with the loss of one of their stars. They have plenty of athletes that can play.

Wilkerson did not pick up a foul until early in the fourth quarter. He did have 4 or 5 dunks and alot of his points were on stick backs. He is talented, has a nice soft touch on his shot and leaps extremely well. Although blocked out on many occassions he got a lot of rebounds by just going straight up and out jumping the defender blocking him out. He has very long arms as well. Highlands played them tough but came up short in the end. Lafayette is much more effective when they push the ball inside or push the ball up the floor before the defense can get back. They are pretty quick as a team.

I am saying that people should not get all hyped up over who wins or loses at this level. It is about players developing and how they come together down the road as juniors and seniors.

Keep in mind the Maile kid did not play since he is playing JV. That would surely make a difference in this game.

The loss means nothing. As long as the Tomcats are getting better so they are ready come tournament time I would think the Ashland faithful shouldn't throw in the towel yet.

I don't think either team shot the ball well from the outside. I can only recall 1 three point shot being made by Highlands by Ben G. The physical nature of the game, holding, hand checking, pushing and shoving by both teams just takes away from the game. We could have still been there had they called all the fouls. Both teams tried to push it and often forced the ball and therefore took a lot of shots that were out of control and ill advised in my opinion. Birds did not shoot well from the free throw line either. But a win is a win and we will take it. Next up Conner.

The yr. Brossart won the 10th they were about 5th or 6th in the 9th. Not even close. But they won and that is what counts. Historically I would say there is always 2 or 3 teams in the 10th that can play with anyone in the state but top to bottom the 9th is stronger.

I am sure that it was something Coach L. said but it could have been the fact that he was out of the box which the refs could call all night long. Coach L lives on the floor trying to work the refs. Everyone knows that.

To me it is not the number of games even though that is key factor but the way he played and continues to play the game. He makes everyone around him better. He gets so many shots because of that reason alone.
