Lafayette 71 Highlands 67

Lafayette won 71-67. No shame in losing to them. They're good with lots of weapons.

True, true.... they have the big guy down low and PeteGifford who is a great athlete. I know Vories and Gifford played on AAU team together back in jr high....so I am sure they guarded each other. Wish I could have gone to see that great game as well as South Laurel.

Gifford's younger brother starts as well and is very good.

I'm curious about the matchup of Tanner Johnson and the Wilkerson kid.

HHS was outrebounded 41-17.

Wilkerson had 30 pts and 22 boards.

:scared: WOW!!!!! :scared:

Thats amazing!!! I've seen this kid and he is pretty good. But I can't believe he did this to one of the best Defensive teams in the state.

Did any HHS fans attend? Passer?

Isn't he big (6'8)? If so and is a strong polished player HHS has no answer for that. Any time the birds run into a good team with a big strong post player, they have a problem. Luckily that combination is not a 9th region team. What type of D did the birds try? Any zone or junk defenses or straight up man-man?

I thought Guidugil did a great job on Keirnan (NCC) earlier in the year, he may be the only true big man up here so that was a good indication that if they match up with a goliath... put the banger on him and since HHS does such a great job of help defense in that sticky man to man.... they should be fine once they get downstate..... thats right... predicting them to win the 9th... I think someone is going to get upset early in the 9th REgion tourney.. don't know who but its a great team and that may make it easier for the Birds.

CCH doesn't have a big man that is as big as Wilkerson and they didn't seem to have a problem with him. I would have thought Johnson and Guiduli would have been able to at least keep him around 20pts.

Somebody told me he had 5 dunks....

Maybe 2, but I think he missed one of them. But he was in foul trouble for the game and also he is known to be incredibly inconsistent.

From what I have heard Wilkerson and Kiernan are not exactly at the same level when it comes to ability. I've seen neither one play just passing along an opinion from some one that had. The fact that there is no dominant "big man in the 9th region is a blessing for Highlands. I also think they can win the region, and once you get to Lexington anything can happen.

To be fair, the big boy got in early foul trouble.

Wilkerson did not pick up a foul until early in the fourth quarter. He did have 4 or 5 dunks and alot of his points were on stick backs. He is talented, has a nice soft touch on his shot and leaps extremely well. Although blocked out on many occassions he got a lot of rebounds by just going straight up and out jumping the defender blocking him out. He has very long arms as well.

Highlands played them tough but came up short in the end.

Lafayette is much more effective when they push the ball inside or push the ball up the floor before the defense can get back. They are pretty quick as a team.
