Can Russ Middleton break Loftons scoring record at Mason Co?

Featured Replies

Its way to early to early to compare this kid to Lofton. I dont know how many points hes averaging per game, I know he has scored 20 or more points in several games this year against some very good teams. Just some food for thought. Lets here some opinions.

He will continue to start all 4 seasons but i say no Because he will have to share those points with Sophmore Darius Miller .

Thats true he will have to share points with Miller, but Lofton had a few good players on his teams as well, Litzinger, Jones, Myrick, and early on Harry Lewis.

Agree but as of now the offense is ran through Darius where as with Chris it was ran through him.But it should be fun watch those 2 for a while.

I agree with that it will be alot of fun to watch these 2 for a while.

The Middleton kid is Awesome. He will make a lot of noise in his 4 years at Mason.

I think he will have to put up some big numbers to do that...But he does have a good shot.

Russ is averaging 11 points a game now as a freshman in 25 minutes a game.

At what point his freshman year did Lofton become a starter? I was thinking it was early in the year but not right off.

Dont remember i was just looking at the stats page and it only goes back to Loftons soph. year when averaged 18 a game.

He might challenge for the points but it will be awfully difficult to surpass the team success that Mason experienced with a State Championship and a Runner Up. And that could be the difference. Lofton had a great surrounding cast and they all played together to win.

Hopefully Middleton will have a good supporting cast around himself, besides Darius Miller from the freshman class that just lost their first game in a little over 3 years.

State championships are very hard to come by, but I think this team will be in contention for the next few years to come. They have proven they can play with just about anybody in the state. With Scott Co, Lex Cath, and South Laurel still on the scedule this young team will be battle tested come March.

Lofton began starting as a Freshman during the Fifth Third Tournament at LexCath.

He went on to lead that team, which lost in the Regional Finals, in scoring at I believe around 13 or 14 pts per game.

As for Russ, he is a good player but not in the same class as Lofton or Lyons by any means. There is really not much of a chance for him to score that many points and such talk is really unfair to the kid. Furthermore, Lofton went deep into postseason play ( 3 state tourneys runs, 1 region final game) every year which is what ultimately allowed him to break Lyon's record.

Last night in the loss to Pendleton Co. Middleton tore it up for a freshman. He was 5-8 from behind the arc. The pressure of 3000 ppl watchin u and to perform like he did at his age is unbelivable. He really stepped up last night and showed what he had.

NO!! For one Russ is not the caliber player Chris was. Also, think how many games Chris played in. He played in at least 30 postseason games. Could have been more. I don't know how many extra district games he had being in a 5 team district. I don't think Russ will get the chance to play in 10 state tournament games.
