I respectfully disagree. With having two year contracts that are usually signed a year in advance, how is a team like CAL supposed to know in 2024, that a historically strong team like Bowling Green is going to finish .500 in 2025 or even 2026? that's just an example. That factors into RPI. As a coach, you setup what you believe is a strong schedule & then hope that it is.

Having 3 or 4 starters out shouldn’t matter. It’s 6A football. Next man up, remember? ?

Credit to BG. They had a great game plan & overall, executed well. They were the most balanced team offensively that CAL has seen & very disciplined defensively. CAL finally played an “off” game. They had multiple special teams mistakes & had a lot of blown coverages on defense & BG took advantage. Once BG gets Barber back, they’ll have an excellent chance at taking 5A again. This was good game for CAL overall in terms of seeing things they must improve as they go for a 4th straight 3A title. On a side note, it was great getting to meet @Purple88tonight. Super nice individual & a great ambassador on BGP for BG. I really enjoyed our pre game conversation!

All very valid criteria. To this point in the season, turnovers haven't played a part in any CAL game. CAL has only turned the ball over twice this year (both fumbles), but conversely, have only forced three turnovers themselves (two fumbles and one interception). That is one area on defense, I would love to see them improve.

I caught wind of this yesterday morning & the KHSAA website already had his name removed as the Christian County coach by yesterday evening. I’ve been told 2nd hand what it’s for and if true, I’m not shocked.

They’ll draw Eastern in the 1st round & more than likely Ballard in the 2nd round; but possibly Oldham County.

He’ll be out this week then. Sounds like JH played ok last week without him so it will be interesting to see how they respond this week.

I’ve seen Pikeville in person & they’ll be in the thick of it, however I understand people who believe they shouldn’t be as ranked as high as they are. They’ve had 3 lopsided losses; albeit to good teams, one win over a winless team & one win where they played awful for almost 3 quarters before making a miraculous comeback. It’s not exactly the resume you’d expect from a #1 ranked team

I think Ryle beats every one of the teams ranked below them. A call here or there or a different bounce of the ball & they’re sitting at 4-1 so the 3 straight losses don’t bother me.

I think they either need to go back to the OVC-Big South or try to join the SoCon. I think that would be their best move and there is some resemblance of stability with those conferences unlike what they are in now.

Interesting fact: CAL has never lost to a 5A team. I believe their record is 19-0 all time against 5A competition.

I’ve seen Jayvian play many times. CAL MS eliminated Bate MS from the 8th grade playoffs last year & he’s played on multiple teams like KY Future Stars with my son. He has a very bright future. He’s very shifty & elusive & can run with a little power when he needs to. He lacks that elite breakaway speed right now, but hopefully will develop that as he gets older. He reminds me of Cortez Stone in that manner but is a little thicker in the lower body. Glad to see him doing so well this year.

As always, excellent work @Purple88! For CAL, the two QB rotation has pretty much ended with Jackson Burke being named QB1. Burke played the entire first half last night, Pfeiffer played the 3rd quarter & FR Will Seifert played the 4th quarter. CAL, for the most part, is finally healthy. They are still missing a couple of starting OL, but every team is a bit banged up this time of year. As for CAL, they have yet to play an “off” game. There were some stretches against Ryle that they didn’t look the best, but I credit that to Ryle & not just being off so-to-speak. Every good team has an off game or two during the year. This might be the one for CAL, but then the question is, even with an off game, does BG have enough to take down CAL on Friday? I think the Purples will be competitive in this one, but I do see CAL coming out on top in the end. I think this is the last non-running clock for CAL until the 3rd round or later in the playoffs. I’ll say CAL wins by 20, but it’s close for the first half or even into the 4th quarter before they pull away.

All 3 Bullitt County schools have & use them. Ryle has them & they were used last week when playing CAL.

Going to respectfully disagree. I know of a few different examples at just one program where under this new rule, those kids are ineligible. There are plenty of programs who would love to have some of those freshmen & sophomores who get backup or special teams minutes at elite or great programs. Regardless, here is where the KHSAA is going to have trouble…they waited until too far into the fall season to vote on it to be able to enact it for 26-27 without issue.

Also, what makes up the 20%? If a backup player, plays 1 play / possession, etc. in 1 quarter of a game, does that mean he just played in 25% of the game? If it's 20% of the team's games, then what do you do if a backup player on varsity plays a couple of plays in a couple of games of some blowout wins and suddenly, they're above 20% of the team's games for that year? If that's the case, that doesn't seem very reasonable to me honestly. If this rule goes into effect, how long before some family sues the KHSAA?

I have no doubt you're correct about that, but parents already lose their minds nowadays about silly, sports related "issues" so it wouldn't be much different. If a school didn't have a team, some parents would lose their minds. If you have 8-man football, some parents would lose their minds b/c it's not traditional football. Pretty much any way you go these days, there are some parent(s) who will lose their minds and cause turmoil. Best advice I was ever given was if you try to make everyone happy, you'll end up making nobody happy, so run your program the way you see fit. Not everything is fair but be consistent.

Yep, pretty much. If you don't meet the requirements to be on the team, then you're not on the team. Same as why basketball teams, baseball teams, etc. don't keep every kid that tries out. I've seen kids weigh 315 lbs. that couldn't wrestle b/c they couldn't get down to the 285 lb. weight limit for HWT. It's unfortunate, but it happens.

I agree with a lot of the original points listed above. Kentucky is way too small of a state to have 6 classes. We need to go back to 4 classes. That was plenty. Also, not everyone makes the playoffs. Between 6 classes and most every team making the playoffs, except for a handful, it makes the 1st round of the playoffs and often the 2nd round of the playoffs very boring. Finally, 8-man football is not a bad idea, but what about sprint football and allowing some schools to compete in a division like that, especially the smaller schools? I wonder if that would help drive up participation numbers in small schools if the max weight limit was 190 lbs. I think it's worth looking into.
