Scott may have an advantage with Highlands not being at their peak after just finishing football on Friday, but I still believe the Bluebirds will come out on top. Scott is facing the challenge of filling in for a lot of scoring that graduated last season, so it will be intriguing to see how Fro and the team adapt. An interesting aspect for Listerman is that his roster may not include any seniors. This presents a unique opportunity for him to develop the team without the worry of losing key players for the upcoming year, allowing for a more focused approach to building their future.

I decided with the season kicking off, the 10th region girls deserved some love as well. Below are my pre-season rankings for each team in the 10th for this year. Pick it apart as you may! 1. GRC 2. As the basketball season begins in Kentucky today, I find myself reflecting on the cherished memories high school basketball has given me throughout the years. One standout memory takes me back to my middle school days when I was just starting to grasp the excitement of high school sports. I was part of a close-knit group of four friends, and we spent nearly every day together. One Friday, a friend's father announced that we would be taking a trip to Mason County to visit the Fieldhouse and watch a promising young player named Chris Lofton. Growing up, my family didn't have extra money, so I had never set foot in a large arena before. The experience at the Fieldhouse was nothing short of breathtaking. The game itself was thrilling, and I was particularly impressed by a player named Commodore, as I was a point guard myself. However, it was Lofton who truly stood out, showcasing a level of talent I had never witnessed in person. I couldn't wait to watch him play every Saturday for the Wildcats! I was convinced that would happen, and I still wish it would have. Fast forward nearly 25 years, and while we've all moved on with our lives—two of us starting families and one recently passing away—those memories remain vivid. What is your favorite high school basketball memory?

I wouldn’t blame him, but chances are slim to none. Two different people and egos. Carson was always a front runner. Won a lot in HS, played at USC early and often, etc. Burrow thrives in the underdog workhorse role. He lost in a state title game in HS, he had to transfer from OSU and had the year he had after things started turning around for him when he got absolutely clocked and literally spit on. Burrow may (and should) become more vocal about things, but he absolutely won’t demand a trade. Now… get him hurt again behind a bad O-line and dropping to pass 50 times a game and I wouldn’t rule out being Andrew Luck.

We can shut down all the talk about how physical Highlands is now… Cooper did this without their starting RB who adds physicality each and every game.

I’ve said for a decade now that I’ll take Randy Borchers in any one game over anyone else in NKY. He gets the absolute most out of what he has available and what he’s given. His halftime adjustments go right along with this.

That’s where I’m at. I’ve seen too many scrimmages where one team plays the entire bench, including JV guys and the other goes 6-7 guys deep and plays it like a varsity game. Then you have the other hand of if either team had starters out.

They didn’t shoot well, they were very sloppy at times, and they didn’t defend well early. They came out of the gate like a team that was starting to feel themselves a little too much with the early success. What’s most exciting about Coach Pope is that it didn’t have to be an overwhelming all night thing that resulted in a loss like it used to. They gathered themselves and there were clear adjustments in the 2nd half and early on in the rotations.

It’ll probably be from 1-3, really. If Rondon never shows up in Newport’s KHSAA roster, it’ll be 2 or 3.

This screams of a deal that will not live up to its expectations. Snell hasn’t been the most healthy dude as of late. When he is on, he’s fantastic, but he’s not getting any younger. Of course, when you have pockets as deep as the Dodgers, if you get one to two good years and another ring out of him, who cares about the last three.

Speaking as someone from the inside of this kind of situation, there are a lot of correct things here. The grandparents are out of town want to watch the kids play without sitting in the elements, the football gate is absolutely needed and as part of the decision-making process on if to offer a stream, and football also is one of the only sports that makes a profit or even comes close to breaking even at most schools. The answer to this is really simple, you offer a stream for $10 an event. You don’t completely recoup the $30 a family would’ve paid to come in, but you don’t take a total loss either because right now, in today’s world there are way better things to do than to sit in 20° weather to watch football. Some of those people will watch online though. This would also pull in the casual fan. I have extreme interest in the Cooper and Highlands game on Friday, but not enough interest to shiver for 4 quarters. I’d watch online.

Reds need to go kick the tires on a 1-2 year deal with Pete Alonso. He would mash in GABP, and he would give some flexibility for CES as he works back from literal nerve damage. Depending how things shake out, he could play 3B (if Marte looks like he did last year) or DH as well as spelling Alonso at 1B. He would be a proven bat with pop in the middle of a lineup that badly needs it. Anthony Santander would get a call from me too. The Reds really need help and pop in the OF. Santander can do that, within budget, and he's a switch hitter. The issue here may end up being that if he plays his cards right he can play teams against one another on cost because the OF free agent that I'd look at as better than him is Juan Soto, and he's priced out of a lot of teams budget. Stephenson improved greatly on the defensive side last year, but they need to add a guy to catch a day or two a week. No idea who that is, but players love Tito. Find an aging guy who loved playing for him and will take more of a Crash Davis roll for a year under Francona and teach guys how to be pros. I expect them to sign a guy or two. They freed up a spot on the 40 man with the trade for Singer. I want them to add quality. When a guy like Alonso goes down I want the next guy up into the position to be a CES, who is then replaced by a Marte type. When an OF goes down your next best should be a Fraley type, not a Fairchild. Winning teams don't play guys like that consistently. I think the bullpen has a chance to pull itself together. They have some depth at pitching when guys return this year (assuming they're healthy) and I expect Williamson, etc. to come out of the pen. I also think the bullpen will excel under Francona when he doesn't tax them by July and gives guys more defined roles than we've been used to. They still need to sign a couple of guys, even if only MiLB contracts, to have some depth at the position. Bullpen arms ALWAYS go down.

Something else for us to gnaw on while we wait on meaningful games to start. Below is each 10th region boys coach, listed by winning percentage (at their current stop). Some things that blew me away. We have more new(er) coaches in the region that I ever remember. Also, only 4 coaches with winning percentages over .500 blew my mind! 1. Josh Cook- GRC- Coach Cook is an impressive 192 and 41, good for a .824 winning percentage. He has 6 district titles, 3 regional titles, and a state title to his name. 2. Brent Sowder- Campbell Co.- Coach Sowder exceeded expectations in his first year leading the Camels and holds a 27 and 7 record and a .794 winning percentage. Sowder's group won both their district and region last year. 3. Brian Kirk- Mason Co.- Coach Kirk is 126 and 56 in his time leading the Royals. His winning percentage stands at .692 and he has won 6 district titles. 4. Jason Hinson- Augusta- Coach Hinson has 77 victories and pairs them with 66 losses, good for a .539 winning percentage. 5. Steve Fromeyer- Scott- Coach Fromeyer has amassed a 121 and 125 record, good for a .492 winning percentage. Coach Fromeyer has a regional champion trophy as well. 6. Mason Monroe- Pendleton Co.- Coach Monroe went 15 and 18 in his inaugural season, good for a .454 winning percentage. 7. Shawn Ransom- Paris- Coach Ransom has gone 24 and 33 leading Paris. His winning percentage is .421. 8. Ben Mulling- Calvary Christian- Coach Mulling went 12 and 19 in his first season leading the Cougars. He sports a .387 winning percentage. 9. Terry King- Bracken Co.- Coach King was a new coach at Bracken Co. last year where the Polar Bears went 11 and 20, good for a .354 winning percentage. 10. Jason Mays- Montgomery Co.- Coach Mays came over after a successful stint at Ashland. His first year leading the Indians resulted in 11 wins and 18 losses, which equates for a .340 winning percentage. 11. Ben Franzen- Bishop Brossart- Coach Franzen is entering his third season leading the Mustangs and will do so sporting 16 wins and 42 losses. Coach Franzen has a .275 winning percentage. 12. Tony Moore- St. Patrick- Coach Moore has patrolled the sidelines for a handful of years now at St. Pat's. He sports an 11 and 89 record to go along with a .111 winning percentage. 13. Brandon Hinson- Robertson Co.- Last season was Hinson's first patrolling the sideline for Robertson Co. They finished 3 and 27, good for a .100 winning percentage. Bourbon Co., Harrison Co. and Nicholas Co. will each have new coaches this year. Allen Martin will lead Bourbon, Andrew Case will lead Harrison, and Spencer Morris will lead Nicholas Co.

This is where I'm at, and honestly, I believe this is where UC is at. Giving the expectation of changing the logo AND mascot as a whole gives the middle school the option of settling outside of court by "meeting in the middle" and changing the logo only.

FC, I agree with you on a lot, and I guess why not swing for the fences, but UK football and UK basketball are two different animals. Urban Meyer and Vrabel won’t give them a no because they won’t answer the phone. IMO, Vrabel would only take the OSU job. He’s talked openly before about the pain coaching in college can be and that was before the portal and NIL. As for Meyer, his resume is HOF worthy as is. If he’s coming off the sweet tv gig, he’s having a chance at a title. ND, USC, OSU or Florida again, etc. Listening to him talk, UC MAY have a chance, but that’s because it’s near and dear to his heart as it’s really where it all started. Tranq…. If FC thought Stoops game plans are old school, UK doesn’t want Tressel. He was already archaic back when, but I’d buy a UK sweater vest in seconds! I think it’ll be Sumrall, but I think either of the OC’s mentioned would be great. If we’re swinging for the fences, I call Jon Gruden. He’s at least got a chip on his shoulder to get back coaching and prove he can do it. With today’s portal setup, he could be viewed as a guy who knows what guys need to be NFL ready and change things immediately. These guys have all grown up seeing his chalk talks.

Not sure, and actually when I saw it it was on a single post on social media. Haven’t seen it again.
