Things are starting to come together for the Colonels, they are at home against an opponent who is a long way from home and its the Alumni Bowl. Besides all that, I think Whitley will be ready and play to the level everyone has been expecting. Colonels get their first win of the season.

Bell has a very good football team and they are very well coached. J.D. Hilton is going to be a hoss, Spencer Greer will end up being one of the best backs Bell has ever had. Whitley played well, but the field position set up by Bell's Merrick was a big key in the game. While Bell worked on a short field most of the night, Whitley had to start from the 20 every time but once. Special teams were special for Bell, setting themselves up nicely and the Greer return really took the wind out of the sails of Whitley. Whitley showed that they can compete with the elite teams but they have to get over the hump and play the whole game. 4CHS is right if they continue on the course they are on, the Colonels will be just fine. The game was closer thant he score but Bell was the better team as a whole on friday night but for a half they were about even. I understand what you are saying. I agree Cashen is a cut above most athletes on the field. BUT I just think that you need to run the ball with authority and Corbin has the backs to do that. You add the pin point passing of Cashen and that is an offense that could carry you along way. Good Luck Hounds, Make the Mountians proud against those Bulldogs from Central Kentucky.

I think there is only one team for Corbin (at least after one game). They are going to have to understand that they are Corbin and Corbin has always run the ball and that should be their bread and butter and let the passing be the desert. I agree Corbin could win this game but I don't look for it, they appear to be sold on the pass. I think Campbell should be the one the offense is built around not Cashen, but that decision was made along time ago. I want to say the mountain team will beat the city team but until Corbin can establish some type of rushing offense they will struggle against the better teams.

Congrats to the Jacket on a nice win. They have a excellant QB who does a great job running the offense. Whitley has some work to do, but over all not a terrible effort. Two really bad plays in the secondary one which led to a long TD, where the defender fell down. Whitley moved the ball and fumbled late in the first half which would have put them up 14-0. Both teams are going to get better as the season rolls on. For Whitley they should get better along the offensive front as they are starting 4 soph and one senior. Defensiviely Whitley did okay, Middlesboro had 146 yards on three pass plays one of which sealed the game late. Not great passes but great plays by the recievers and poor plays by the whitley free safety. Bottom line both teams will be better for having played the game. Good luck the rest of the year to both teams.

The predictions are based on the fact that Whitley County is was only 2-8 last year and to be honest not a very good football team and Middlesboro was 11-2 and a pretty doggone good football team. Can the Colonels turn the tide? Only time will tell, but I think there will be some surprised folks on Friday night.

I hope Corbin can come out on top, I guess I should have waited till later in the week to make my prediction, or at least till the injury situation is confirmed. I would like to see Corbin win this one, but Pike County is a long trip and Belfry a good team and that is a bad combination for anyone.

I think this will be a good even game, who wins will depend on the Redhound injury situation, if they have their players back then they should win in a close game, if not Belfry could win. The trip will play a factor, although Corbin does travel well, as most all the Corbin fans will travel with them, but that is a LONG trip and if it is hot it could come down to conditioning. My gut tells me that it will be close but the travel and the injuries will be too much for Corbin to over come. If it was in Corbin I would pick Corbin but on the road in Pike County I have to go with Belfry.

Bobby Gibbs of Whitley County Played at Whitley County---All State Member of the Kentucky All Stars Three year starter at Wofford All-American Lineman Coached under Mike Campbell and now Jim Black. Has moved up to Offensive Co-ordinator and also coaches the offensive line. He will be a great head coach one day, already is a great motivator, and the kids love him.

Corbin will be strong again this season and should compete for the region title but they will need to find a repalcement for departed Josh Hamblin who really did a great job running the point. They have some great talant led by Crawford who may be the best player in the region.

Corbin will be strong this year and should be penciled in for the region game, but it takes alot of things to fall into line to get to Louisville, you have to be a little bit lucky and really good. Corbin fans are some of the most loyal fans in Kentucky. Its a little bit like UK, they can talk about their team and percieved shortcomings, but nobody else better talk about that, you gotta respect that they are only satisfied with the ultimate goal, winning state.

7 out of 10 games on the road, the "Bobcats" should change their names to the "Road Warriors" Young or not that is tough on any team. Lincoln in the Death Valley Bowl, that is a long trip and it will be HOT, then down the road to Whitley an old rival....two tough road games to start the season but games in which Bell should be the favorite. Two straight home games an open date then one more home game and back on the road till the playoffs. Madison Southern, Sheldon Clark are two toughies, then a bit of a break with McCreary Central, Leslie Co, and Tates Creek to end the season, really not as bad as it seems but it would be tough on any team. The great part I guess if you are a Bell fan is that you should have 7 home games next year.

I would think that scheduling would be a problem also, even should the KHSAA allow a team to pick up a game it would be tough to do during the season. I would guess that all games would be forfieted and the score would show 1-0 win for the winning team. I think that the decision would rest with the prespective schools on how few is too few.

So what is the word now on the Colonels....are they up to the schedule...can they compete?

Although having a worse record, Whitley defeated North Laurel last year and should have been the three seed instead of the 4. Probably does not change the outcome just a observation.

You are joking right? I don't think Whitley is picking on anyone, but they are upgrading their schedule. If you don't think Bell, Rock and Middlesboro are not challenging then you have not been watching much football lately. They are very respected programs with good coaches and compete every year. Newport was 8-4 and a playoff team, and Lynn Camp, well they have played for a long time, and just year before last beat Whitley. Don't forget about Woodford County, lost in the second round of the 4A playoffs to Henry Clay. You seem to forget that Whitley was only 2-8 last year and trying to build. Whitlely is trying to build to the time when they get the respect that those programs recieve, but to get that repsect you have to beat those teams. Besides, outside of Whitley's district there are not mnay 5A schools to play within a reasonable traveling distance, I think they have had enough of touring the state (North Hardin and Shelby County last year)

The only bad thing about Harlan County coming in is the trip up 119, other than that I think it is a great addition to the district....of course it makes it a 6 team district which limits what you can do outside the district.

And Whitley is using that to the advantage, playing Bell County, Newport, Middlesobro, Rockcastle County and Lynn Camp out of district, now that is a very challenging schedule.

1. Corbin 2. South Laurel 3. Whitley 4. Williamsburg Corbin should be the best team in the 50th this year, they will have strength and a solid offensive and defensive teams with good floor leadership. Coach Petrowski has matured into an excellant game coach. South will struggle without the leadership of Profitt and Company for while but they will develop into a good team as the season goes on. Whitley will continue to improve but won't challenge this year. Williamsburg will be a better team and win some games. All in all I look for the 50th to be overall one of the better districts in the region this year.

You say weaker like it is a bad thing, heck the only thing that could make it better is if they were only in a four team district. Seriously, it is not the district that the Colonels had to play in back in the 90's when they had Bell County and Rockcastle County and even Cawood when they were good. It is not the district of Madison Central, GRC, Norht and South Laurel, so yes it is a better district for Whitley to compete in and in all reality Whitley should be a lock for the playoffs every year. That by its self will make them better. You get more practice each year, Say they get to the second round this year, thats two weeks more practice, and next year they get to the third round, that three weeks more practice and the next year the fourth round.....by the time this years freshmen are seniors they will have had almost a whole seasons worth of extra practice which will make them that much better for their senior year. So being in a "weak" district is not a bad thing.
