  1. Last time I checked it takes 5 to play the game and basicly by putting "and company" I was just too lazy to list all the players. Even as good as Jones and Osborne are they could not hav beat Williamsburg 2 on 5. As far as thinking they could beat them Williamsburg came in 4-0 and was feeling pretty good about themselves, and to be honest there have been times over the years Williamsburg brought teams into the game that could not compete and probably knew it going in. Actually it could have been worse, Holbrook for Whitley was out and she could have been added to the list if she had played. Alot of the easy baskets that Jones and Osborne had were set up by great defense and steals by the other players on the floor so "and company" was pretty accurate.
  2. I don't know the ages, but if they are hold backs then that is the decision of the parents not the school. If it is such a problem, then maybe Williamsburg parents should look into holding kids back. Corbin, Clay, South, North, and other schools parents routinely hold back kids. I think regardless of sports it is not a bad idea to hold back a kid, give them that extra year a maturity, and more than likely you will see more academic success later high school and college. Kids grow too fast in our society anyway, let them be kids for as long as they can, they have their whole lives to work. TO THE GAME: Whiltey dominated from the beginning and played with an intensity that Williamsburg could never match. Kayla Osborne, Holly Jones, and Company just dismantled a team that thought they could beat them, I guess they wanted to send a message they better think better next time.
  3. I would agree on your assessment of the game, but I hope for Williamsburg fans it is not a one game mirage brought on by the cross town rival thing. This game always brings out the best and unfortunatley the worst in the teams. I think fans saw alittle bit of both tonight at different times for both teams. I thought Whitley bench was MUCH deeper and more effective than Williamsburgs was, example Dee Butcher coming off the bench and getting a big three in no time and lifting his team and he was the 11th guy to play, that is some serious depth.
  4. Whitley really did not have the type of game that theyare capable of, some I am sure was due to it being Williamsburg (rival game) and some was what Williamsburg was doing. Baker has done alot with the kids building the team concept and they are really playing into it. I look for continued growth by the Colonels as the holidays approach.
  5. Williamsburg came with an inspired effort and appeared to really play better as a team, while Whitley did not play as well as in the past couple of games. The Colonels still found a way to outscore the Jackets and come away with the district victory. The zone of Williamsburg gave Whitley some trouble but Jordan McCumbers hit enough 3's and Mikey Storms came off the bench and really lifted the offense.
  6. I thought that most of the plays that I saw that I could have disagreed with were not replayed, which did nothing but raise my suspicions even more. By not playing the replays on every play, you almost say the refs missed it by not showing it......Sometimes what you don't say is more important than what you do say.......or at least that is the way I look at it. I voted for not replaying them, but I think the better thing would be only to show "High Lite Plays" but for gosh sakes, don't play in slow motion dropped passes, which really makes that player look bad.
  7. Has it ever happened? Maybe going back to when Larry Anderson was at Williamsburg and had Beth Bates, that is the only time I could think that it possibley happened. Althought they did play to within 8 points in 2005, most times it has been a wide margin of victory for the Lady Colonels. 2005 was the closest game I could find, going back to 1998.
  8. Both teams come in 4-0, but I think that it is safe to say Whitley has played the more difficult schedule, having already played South Laurel (W) and Corbin (W). It is at Whitley and that really helps the Lady Colonels. Just Curious, why would you say Whitley is not playing well right now? I mean they just beat SL who has argueabley one of the best players in the region (Wombles)? and still could challenge for the district and regioni  They have had to get up for District games and been successful. Whitley wins this one.
  9. 1997/98 WCHS 58 WHS 70 WCHS 59 WHS 66 1998/99 WCHS 48 WHS 50 WCHS 51 WHS 44 1999/00 WCHS 51 WHS 60 2000/01 WCHS 71 WHS 58 2001/02 WCHS 70 WHS 55 2002/03 WCHS 59 WHS 83 2003/04 WCHS 45 WHS 35 2004/05 WCHS 78 WHS 68 WCHS 59 WHS 66 2005/06 WCHS 73 WHS 35 WCHS 71 WHS 63 2006/07 WCHS 67 WHS 55 WCHS 58 WHS 62 WCHS 69 WHS 42 As you can see this has been a very close series going back to the late 90's. I don't look for this year to be any different, being a cross town rival game makes it even better. Regardless of being at Whitley or Williamsburg I look for a great game.
  10. Williamsburg has too much talant to be as bad as everyone is putting on. I think it will be a good game and Williamsburg will "Come to Play" as Stan Lovitt would say. Defensively Whitley is playing well and VERY hard. Offensively they are very workman like and takes what is given them. Being a district game, I think the Jackets make a game of it but at Whitley the Colonels will have the advantage. This is always a good game and I look forward to another installment in this series.
  11. That was one for the ages.......Can the Coach be elected POPE?????
  12. No guts no glory, I would have gone for the 2pt conversion and the win....but then again that is why I am here and he is coaching T
  13. Even on the short field with no timeouts it will be tough
  14. Would you have expected anything less from these two teams
  15. These are supposed to be good teams...they are not used to punting.....
  16. Whitley defeated them last year, and had most everything coming back so it is not that surprising, but still a great win for the Colonels on the road.
  17. I thought I was the one who turned over the new leaf......or maybe we just met in the middle.
  18. Any win on the road is good, especially against a district opponent.....BUT, South is a team that rolled over the Colonels last year, and yes they won, they did not score with the ease that you might have guessed. I think Whitley's defense had as much to do with St. Johns's ineffectiveness as the foul trouble. Whitley was able to go at him early and get those two fouls on him. Whitley could have played the perfect game and maybe still not won, who knows, but it is certianly a more interesting game now than in the past.
  19. Somebody mark this date down in RED, this is a first...Les and I agree!!!!!!! Just joking......LOL
  20. I would agree, but even when he was in the game he was ineffective, as Whitley did a good job doubling down on him and putting lots of pressure on him. He was a presense defensively blocking shots, but honestly when they play some better teams with better shooters and athletes (and different officials) he won't get away with putting the arm and hands on the body when blocking shots. Even when he did not block shots, he caused Whitley to alter shots. But on the other hand Whitley was in his head from the get go and really frustrated him.
  21. Not being smart, I know they can score but do they ever play defense?
  22. It was a serious defensive effort from the Colonels, St. John did not get a basket till under a minute left in the game. He got in foul trouble off the bat and had to sit. Jones and Gilbert carried the load for the Cardinals. If Whitley could have just hit their layups it may have turned out differently. Whitley had trouble scoring, South had trouble scoring in the half court. They turned Whitley over and got several buckets in transition early when they were trailing to get into the lead. South's press is still pretty effective but not near what it was last year. Whitley although still young (last part of the game they had 2 FR, 2 SO, and 1 JR on the floor) gave a great effort and has improved tremendously. It was a competitive game and although the Colonels lost, they can take some positives out of it and learn and get better from having played this game. I don't think anyone gave the Colonels a chance to play the Cards this close, but South just could not ever gap them enough to relax, under a minute to go, Whitley cut the lead to 8 off a steal. The Colonels never gave in, which was great to see. Congrats to both teams on a fun game to watch and a great effort.
  23. I am sure that Coach Robinson is scratching his head at this one too. If the Jackets can just get a win for their confidence level, they could turn it around.
  24. I think this is a good measuring stick for the Colonels at this point in the season. Last year the Colonels were a much better team at home and this is their first home game. They do tend to be pyshical and at home like a young team they just appear to be more comfortable at Home. South wins this game but I expect a excellant effort, Coach Baker has them playing like a team that believes in themselves, and that is half the battle.
