  1. A coach who lets the crowd dictate how he runs his team is not in control of his program. I guess it won't be long before they are making his starting lineups, and If I remember correctly just a couple of years ago he won one game and they wanted him gone but since they found out they can control him and run the team they decided to keep him, looks like the crowd does a good job of running the team. A loss is a loss whether by 1 or 100 and it does not matter if the other team scores 100 and you score 99 or you score 120 if they score 130. Saving face was not an issue.
  2. I don't know about great but they should be improved. They improved last year althought the record did not show it, and if they have that much improvement again this year they will be hard cats to clean after.
  3. I would think that where I watch games, it has to do with the polictics of getting games, it is there and there is no use in denying it, I know because I was an official. Experience is not whole the issue either, it is just poor mechanics, being out of postion and being to un-motivated to the point you don't get up and down the floor. I don't know the answer as I said before and I don't mean to bash individual officials (I have not used name) but there needs to be changes so good officials can get games and the lazy one get the bad games or no games at all untill they are motivated enough to do a good job.
  4. I am glad to see Williamsburg making progress and hope that they can continue that progress. Williamsburg resources are limited and they appear to be making the best of them, but due to small resources the progress is a bit slower. Be patient, Coach Robinson is doing a good job and yes he does need help but so do several other coaches, not just in the tri-county area or the 13th region. For Williamsburg to hire help, they have to have a teaching position and with an enrollment of only 220 they can't just pull one out of the air can they? Right now football talant is good at Williamsburg and basketball talant is not as good as they would like it to be, but you can rest easy in knowing that they are trying to get better. They have a passion for their sports and athletes, and want a winner more than anything.
  5. If I knew the answer I would pass it on, but as it stands now "politics" certianly plays a big role in who gets games.
  6. You are right but the Colonels got small across the line for a period of time but are recovering nicely now and are ready to get "In The Pile"
  7. How many times have you been married, or are you just looking for you first divorce!?!???!?!!??!!?
  8. Don't be surprised to the the Power I or the Wishbone or even the wing-bone, with all those backs to choose from, also look for a two tight-end set and the double-pig set similiar to what Corbin ran in the 80's. They have the line to go back to the true power game. Whitley will still throw the ball, with the likes of Rider to throw to, regardless of being away from the "spread" you will still have to cover the whole field. Heck Whitley may throw it as much as 7 times a game.
  9. To make better officials whether basketball, baseball or football, you need a better system of checks and balances. Rating by the coaches is crazy, and having "assinging secretaries" is even more ludicrous. Better teams get the calls, so they can get the ratings from the better schools, thus if you are one of the lesser rated teams you don't get the same benifit of the calls. Also officials try to gain favor with the assigning secretary to get better games and less travel, so good young officials cannot break into the good ole boys network. If you have ANYconnection to the school or system there is no way you should ever call one of their games. Like someone else said these guys are human and whether they mean to or not sometimes they favor a team which they have that connection to. On top of that there will always appear to be favoritism. I truely get tired of watching bad officials, the game of basketball has changed to shoving matches with little attention to the fundamentals of passing and shooting and has become a contest of who has the best athlete not the best basketball player(s). I see one official who is just too lazy to get up and down the floor and into the right position, but because he is a favorite of one school he continues to get big games. Bottom line, like I said before there needs to be a better system of checks and balances to week out the just plain bad and in some cases corrupt officials. (I don't mean corrupt as in cheating but just plain lazy and drawing a check, to me that is corrupt beacause you are short-changing the kids who work so hard)
  10. Final Sounds like the SL game was just a bump in the road as Corbin beats one of the top teams in the region.

  12. Don't even go there, are you trying to say that kids (WC) 175pds is pushing around kids that are 3 inches taller an 35-40 pounds heavier?!?!?!?!? You must be like me and only believe about 75% of what you say.... Listen I would love to blame the refs for the loss but they were not a factor. Everyone knows and understands just how bad officiating is in the 13th region. That is life around here.
  13. Coach Fualkner is doing a great job with the young Colonels and is liked by the parents and adminstration. He and Coach Baker get along well and they both have the same goals for the program, and on the right path.
  14. Why would he want to leave where he is at....the talant is already there and he is already working with it, plus he is working for one of the largest employeers in the county, with more resources. I know the obvious answers, but I would think there would be other considerations too. A lateral move to a smaller school with less pay? No, I think he is going to stay where he is at or move to head coaching job someday.
  15. I can't see him going to Lynn Camp....More than likely Williamsburg.....that makes WAY more sense to me.
  16. Whitley played well in the first half but could not physically handle the pressure of Corbin in the second half. Immaturity hurt them, when they got down they kind of tossed in the towel. Corbin has a heck of a good team when they are hitting on all cylinders as they were in the second half. Any doubt about the Hounds after the SL game should be gone. The JV game shows you just how good Whitley could be in a couple of years, playing against kids your own age and maturity level (especially physically) makes a world of difference. Whitley continues to make strides and Coach Baker is doing a great job, given time he will turn the program around more than people would have expected. Glad to see Josh Crawford playing well, he a good kid and always like to see him do well.
  17. In all honesty the past is just that the past, it has no bearing on what is going to happen from now until next season....The coaches and the players are not looking at the past and only focused on the future, when in reality began the first week of November.
  18. According to the KHSAA records they did not forfiet any games when Eugene Smith was playing, so they did not have a losing season in the 90's. They did face some other sanctions including loss of some scrimmages. Also the joke part was not directed at you, I was however answering your question. What has been wrong has kind of been the perfect storm of bad things that could have happened. The thing through the 90's they had continueity, and now with Coach Black entering his third year, they are headed back in the right direction.
  19. I actually thought that was one of the more humorous lines in the movie....LOL:laugh:
  20. Whitlie Rose did not play and Lawson is hurt and may or may not return, they were their two top players off the bench.
  21. All I can say is WOW!!!!! I thought it would be a close game but Corbin would come away with the win especially at Corbin. Knute Rockne always said "I play my best 11, not my 11 best!!!" Sometimes on a team as talanted as Corbin it is tought for even the best coach to identify the best 5 out of all that talant. Sometimes talant can be out-weighed by teamwork, and that is the toughest thing to get no matter how much talant you have. With that being said there is no doubt Corbin will recover nicely and still more than likely be there at or near the end of the region tourny.
  22. Whitley won their district in '79 and I was there to watch them play Conner for the region....and get beat. Certainly Whitley does not have the tradition or history of some other schools and you can make your jokes about next year but Whitley was one of the winningest programs in the 90's never having a losing season, the were of only a hand full of teams to do that. Being committed to winning is doing the things that make you a winner. Whitley is doing that and you all will see shortly just how committed they are. As long as the boys are as committed as the coaches they will be fine, and there is no doubt that they are, and I look forward to spring, the passing leagues and then of course the season.
  23. I have seen a school report rushing stats where they did not count rushes for a loss.....thus inflating the total, If a kid has 100 yards rushig on 10 positive attempts and add three carries for a loss of 10 you have a total of 13 attempts and 90 yards, not with this school they would have 13 carries for 100 yards or sometimes 10 carries for 100 yards, it was laughable.
  24. Looking at some of the scores the have in common this season it was not that shocking, and whitley was down two players, one of which they will get back the other one is very questionable as to if she can return.
