  1. Only one transfer that I am aware of. Most I understand have decided not to play.
  2. I'm not ready to say Somerset could make a push, but its possible. Lost a lot of talent, and replaced it with some as well in the freshman and sophomore class. Avoid the injury bug, and they'll be a handful.
  3. Somerset lost some playmakers in the receiving corps, defensive secondary, QB and a really good defensive lineman. I think they'll still have a good squad, but not a really deep team (that I can tell) Gotta avoid the injury bug.
  4. Rupp may just be too big of an arena for that event. Maybe need to rethink where it is played. While Lexington is "centralized", teams will travel wherever it needs played. It was at Freedom Hall my senior year. With new leadership at UofL, maybe tie to look at using the YUM center? Jus a thought. The cost is a little high. Not saying it isn't fair, but it is high. For me to take the kid and watch, I would've been out about 50 bucks for a session and parking. Not to mention a meal or snacks during the game. I can see why it keeps people at bay. KSR not being there doesn't hurt. Also in some regards doesn't help. If you have one of the most popular media outlets in the state and you alienate them, they in turn aren't going to say much nice and people who are fans of the show and on the fence about going to watch , they can easily be influenced. They did hype the Buckhorn team a couple years ago and gave the Sweet Sixteen lots of free advertising and publicity. Its a small effect, but its there. Don't underestimate its value to the public.
  5. What a great event for the 6th grade boys. I have a son that plays on the Meece team and it was a delight to play Southern Pulaski for the Gold Championship! We wanted a different outcome of course, but only one team can win the game. If anyone wants to be blown away, watch the Lyon County team. They are so far ahead of the curve that catching up is going to be super difficult for most of these teams. Let's play a couple more this week and call it a year!
  6. Losing Grundy doesn't help Somerset one bit, but he isn't enough of a loss to beat this Danville team. The VanCleave kid is a lot of fun to watch and maybe one of the best on any field at any time. Best of luck to Danville on the rest of the playoff run!
  7. I was wrong. (As usual) I thought the game would be close at half and Danville would win by 17. Instead they were up by 21 at half and won by 11. Vancleave is a bad man! Good luck the rest of the year! (unless we play again)
  8. I don't know if I believe that Danville will win big. I do believe this game will be one of the "game was closer than the score appears" when its all said and done. I say Ads win by 17.
  9. I never would’ve thought that Somerset would be 5-2 at this point in the season. I’m glad they’ve proved me wrong. Look forward to the Raceland folks coming to town next year!
  10. You had five players out and it hurt the teams chances to win? Am I to assume that Madison Central had no one hurt and was out? Same for Somerset, they had just as many out and played with freshmen in their first game. No one is arguing that Bourbon was better or not. It's just a reason for the outcome. Injuries make a difference whether you want to admit it or not.
  11. It seems like some people can’t understand what injuries can really do in the first game of regular season football. While it’s not an excuse, it’s definitely a reason. There isn’t a kid on that team that wouldn’t love to play that game again and I bet there wouldn’t be one on Bourbon County that wouldn’t love the same. Somerset lost that game when the inexperienced players got rattled by a good Bourbon squad. That’s just plain and simple. Hard to beat them with Freshman. Maybe the argument is player development to have them ready by that game. The best team that night did win the football game. Madison Central ain’t 45 points better than Bourbon County, but they were Friday. What’s the excuse or where there just reasons? Sometimes the best football team doesn’t win. Beechwood may not have had the chance to open up the offensive playbook but neither did Somerset. That game wasn’t great conditions and Beechwood still had to play. They scored 7 in the same weather. It’s not like the rain stopped every time Somerset had the ball. Stop acting like they were given a gift. All that said, there’s still 4 games left. Raceland will have a lot to say on Friday. Then the consolation will be Danville and LCA to follow. I can’t think any of these next three teams will have an ounce of care how good Somerset is. They’ll respect them, but they aren’t going to care. In their minds, Raceland/Danville/LCA are better than SHS. Time will tell.
  12. Well, they have some puzzle pieces that still need filled but overall, it's a good squad. Their end of regular season record probably won't be indicative how good they are. I'm not sure they have enough for Danville and maybe not enough for LCA. If they win every other game on the schedule, it'll be a pretty nice season and should have them ready for post season. Right now I'm just hoping they have answers for North Laurel next weekend. My thoughts are with the RB from Hazard. I hope that knee ends up being at worst a hyperextention. He's too valuable to what they do. I also hope whatever kept the Jumpers starting QB on the sidelines isn't serious.
  13. I hear Corbin 8th grade took a big loss tonight to Northern Pulaski. 30-14. Don't know what to make of the score yet. Don't know if Corbin played poorly or if Northern is that much better. Curious on a game report.
  14. 7 of the 10 games they play are against teams ranked in the top 10 in their class??? This season might cause me to start drinking.
  15. I wish! I've seen the SD State mascot online and when the Alumni group was making a push to buy a new mascot costume, I forwarded pictures to the people running the facebook page. They had no mercy on telling me why I was wrong. (ears too long, its a jackrabbit and not a briar jumper blah blah blah) Somerset needs to stick to the gold helmet, but I might be convinced it'd would be nice to have brighter gold than the flat vegas gold they use. (I'm arguing preference at that point by wanting a brighter gold color.) I just wish I could convince the right person/persons to look into the logo though.
  16. I'd love to see someone make a new mascot logo for Somerset. They could stand a little rebranding. That version of Cecil is little too "kiddish". (to me, anyway)
  17. Maybe I am just being negative, but I'm guessing 5-5 or maybe 6-4. If they stay healthy for playoffs, they could be dangerous. I don't know they have enough to beat LCA, Danville or Beechwood. Toss ups with many of the others. I'll not be critical...yet.
  18. Games are generally blowouts so it doesn't attract too many casual fans. This guy isn't a huge fan of the games being in Bowling Green. It doesn't really centralize the championship games. Why they aren't in Lexington kind of baffles me.
  19. I understand that Prestonsburg has an injured QB? I hate to hear that if so. Like the speed and skill of Somerset, but like Jumper_Dad posted, that 3 hour bus ride can be an issue.
  20. Us third shift guys get in on the conversation late. What's the guilty pleasure song that you sing to when no one is looking? Weirdest food combination you enjoy the most?
  21. The onside kick was not smart by any stretch. They may be planning to use that at some point along the way in the post season, but at that point in the game, going for it doesn't make sense. You can argue that it doesn't matter to lose this game and that you can get reps for some inexperienced players, which is good. But if your inexperienced players got you the lead, don't lose it for them with a bad call under a minute to go. Maybe someone at the game or more in the know of the situation can chime in on this one.
  22. @ jumper_dad I can help out with the school colors. The building that is used for the now Somerset High School was once a Masonic college that was donated to the city as a library and later adopted as a school. Purple and gold are colors in the spectrum that higher ranking officers wear.
  23. Somerset has to find a way to establish a passing game against good teams that keeps defenses honest. Not going to win many games against teams like Beechwood or Danville being one dimensional. Give all the credit to the Admirals defense, they played them well and kept Somerset one dimensional. If the Jumpers are going to contend, they'll face tough competition along the way. Somerset is still young at many positions and has a lot of room for improvement. Hopefully they'll get all cylinders clicking by playoff time.
  24. There are games on the Somerset schedule that are the "50/50" games that they won or lost by a small margin last year. Hazard, Rockcastle, Lexington Christian. Somerset needs to win these games and they'll probably not be favored in any. I think Somerset wins and its really close. 24-21
  25. Somerset defense on the field way too much. Beechwood just punches you in the mouth over and over again. Somerset played their first higher quality opponent and lost by 3 TD margin. Still have a long way to go.
