Question on trips to the mound... Here is the situation... End of the inning and as the third base coach crosses the field he stops at the mound to chat with his pitcher on the way to the dugout. I know in baseball that is considered a trip. Does that same rule apply to fastpitch?

As a side note... It's more than worth the price of admission to watch the Coffey kid play short. The kid leaves it all on the field. I had to give her some grief last night as it was one of the very few games where she wasn't a filthy mess from diving after balls. You better hit it over her head because if it's on the dirt she will get a glove on it. Very fun to watch. She IS the definition of "Dirty Bird".

The bats finally decided to come out of hibernation last night! Ashley Grosser continued her hot streak and Whitney Quillen and Haley Coffey are finding their stroke as well. Brennah dutcher finally squared up on one with a two RBI double to end the game. Hopefully this continues to take some of the load off Shelby Graybill who continues to pound the ball. Hats off to Miranda Mason who pitched a good game and while the stats don't show it with Ks, she kept the hitters off balance enough to force playable hits for the fielders.

I heard about the play at first. Wasn't there but heard there was a pretty evident elbow thrown at one of the Ryle players followed by so not so nice language. Again I wasn't there but heard about it from a pretty reliable source.

Does anyone have phone numbers for the cchs coach or the knocht pa coach? Could you pm me? I need some info on last nights games. Thanks for any help

Not sure Ms Jones would have helped the Bulldogs case out much... No knock on the dogs or Haley at all.. NDA just has a two headed monster out there. We have some pretty decent hitters and she mowed through us like a knife through hot butter. Outside of NCC for obvious reasons, NDA is the team we most want to win against... Hopefully by the next time we play them we'll be in a much better spot to put some pressure on them but they are surely the class of the Ninth.

While the home opener was moved to Tower Park, the Birds prevailed 6-0 in this one. Bailey Spencer pitched a two hit shutout recording 3 Ks. The birds jumped out to a 3 run lead in the first on some nice hitting with two outs. Graybill started it off with a single to short and then Brennah Dutcher and Kendall Turner followed with back to back doubles to center driving in the first two. KC Broering was hbp and Spencer singled to right scoring Turner. Some pretty good defensive plays for this early in the season were pretty to watch as Quillen layed out and stole a hit away from Schreiber and threw her out from her knees. Nice game by both squads and a big thank you to the city of Fort Thomas for getting the field playable.

I'm sure our ladies appreciate the confidence JMU... The Birds will have to bring their A game as this one seems to always be a nail biter. Birds are still working out some kinks but getting a little better with each practice. We just need LB to guarantee a win for the Breds and we'll be ok. Jk

Prayers and well wishes from Alexandria as well. It was my pleasure to help Birdsfan during his years at HHS. He was a fighter then and I have no doubt he is today Keep up the fight Birdsfan!!!

Awesome Coach Liggett is aboard!!! He was my coach when I was 13 for Sports Arena.. And that was 37 years ago.... Lots of knowledge to be passed to the kids...

Question regarding dead period. It's come to my attention that dead period is now three weeks. Can anyone give me the dates for this summer? If it is three weeks, I can see this affecting quote a few summer teams that have HS coaches that coach those teams. This could knock out a third or more of a season if that's the case for those coaches.

I'm with all that want this thread to be about the team and the upcoming season but I'll digress and throw my two cents in. Every player in that poster of last year's team were either from the Fort or were enrolled before the doors were closed. I know this because mine was one of the last to get in. It didn't matter that I or any others are alums or not. The coffers were full. When my new DD moved from Wisconsin with her brother we had choices to make and with her academics, athletic abilities and passion... HHS was deemed as the best fit for her. Her brother on the other hand is an accomplished musician and outside of the School for Creative and Performing Arts, CCHS was the best fit for him with their music program being one of the top programs in the area. Just like parents that send their kids to parochial schools, we were lucky enough to be able to make those choices. Everyone that sends their kids to schools outside of the district that they live in that I know does so because they feel that is the best choice for their child for whatever that reason may be. Our Bass player has had opportunities to play his "sport" all over Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana and traveled to the Pontiac Silverdome to compete with his HS. Just as we feel our DD will have similar opportunities with her Bluebird peers. (Yeah, I drink the blue Kool-Aid as well). So now to fastpitch... Let's get this crappy weather out of here and get to the Bird's Nest and play some ball. We wish all the teams a successful tryout in less than a month but not so much when you come to our place... Lol

This is a perfect example of why... Even though I can watch a cchs football game from my back deck, I choose to drive 15 miles twice a day, and sometimes four times when there is practice, to Ft Thomas and pay the tuition. Our daughter is a 4.0 student and an athlete and after seeing the athletic program demise with my son at cchs, there was little chance I was going to put her through the same political crap he went through. Other than Mike Bankemper, who is a great coach and mentor, the other coaches receive little to no support from the administration.

A lot of mention about the juniors and sophomores being down and light on talent but from what I saw this year the skill positions at those levels are in pretty good shape. Two quality QBs in Hoge and Herrgott quote a few quality receivers, partial here but looking forward to watching Cain progress with his soft hands and length, and hopefully a healthy Watson Kendell and Dougherty in the backfield. Dougherty is the punishing north south runner and Watson and Kendell as the fast elusive ones that just need a small seam and their gone. The question mark may be the line but they seem to have done pretty well with the smaller quicker lines in the recent past.

Nice honor for the young man and hope it helps him. Interesting that he is an OHara and I wonder if he is any relation to the dourerty kid from HHS that kicks as well. He has OHara on his moms side. If HHS ever kicked field goals who knows how many points that kid would have. Not sure but he may have earned the scoring record at HHS on extra points pretty much alone. Not sure how many kick offs he put out of the end zone this year but I know I've seen at least one hit the crossbar. Good luck to both of them and I hope their kicking skills helps them get to the next level.

I find this almost comical how all these CCH fans are slamming Ryle when their program did the same thing to HHS....twice. I know, I know there is a thread a mile long on the CCH ducking the Birds in JV. Good luck to the Undefeated Raiders, if its true that the game will be played. In retrospect I guess I can understand why the parents want that extra game considering the number of games they will play next year at the jv level.
