Their game face consists of smiles, laughs and hips -a- shakin. I know it drives coaches nuts but it works for them. Don't mistake those pearly whites as a lack of focus, they're just showing their teeth before they bite....

Another nice game by the Birds as they blank the Cougars 3-0 and move their streak to 10-0. Lots of tension (by everyone but the players) on the HHS side as the Lady Cougars came in ranked #1 in the coaches poll. Another strong outing by Spencer recording 6 Ks against no walks allowing 7 hits. Her ERA has dropped below 2 and is hitting her spots. HHS dents the plate in the opening frame on a Quillen single and a laser double to the fence by Graybill. In the Conner 2nd, the Birds turn the first of their two double plays after Snelbaker singled, K, then Connoly bunts into a 5-4-6 DP to get out of the inning. The Birds record their second DP on a comebacker to Spencer, who fired to Dutcher to get Mattlin doubled off. In the bottom of the third, after a Biz K, Quillen hits another line drive single to center and Coffey drives a single to left. With Graybill coming to the plate, the Cougars decided to take their chances with Spencer and Dutcher and walk Graybill of the "on purpose" variety to load the bases. Biz buckles down and gets a K which brings Dutcher to the plate. Dutcher takes a 0-1 pitch and drives it to RF for a single, scoring Quillen and Coffey for some insurance runs. Hitting for the Birds Graybill 1-1 2 walks 2B rbi SB Quillen 2-3 Dutcher 1-3 2 RBIs Coffey 1-3 Gabbard 1-3 Daley 1-3 Conner 0 7 0 HHS 3 7 0 The "fun" schedule continues tomorrow as they host the powerhouse NDA Pandas at 5:00.

Error on the Score Keeper... Graybill 3-4 not 2-4 oops

The Birds stretch their current win streak to 9 as they down the Lady 'Stangs 9-0 tonight on a tale of two games... The first half of the game was a pitcher's duel with neither team making much contact for the first three innings with only one hit between the teams. The pitchers for both teams, Megan Seiter for Brossart and Bailey Spencer for HHS, were dealing strikes and helped by some stellar play in the infield. The Birds finally break the knot in the 4th on singles by Graybill and Spencer and then a single to center scoring Jansen (Courtesy runner) to make the score 1-0. HHS hitters came out of their coma in the 5th plating 4 runs on five hits with Coffey picking up a double. Brossart went in order in the sixth for 18 in a row for Spencer working on a "Perfect". Brossart made a pitching change in the 5th to Karlie Shackleford. A walk to Daley, single by Fornash and a walk to Coffey loaded the bases for Graybill who made quick work cleaning them off by planting the first pitch in the trees beyond the left center fence for a Grand Slam. Her 11th (Coach Kent Murphy "Dinger") of the year. Brossart ended Spencer's Perfect with a solid line drive to center by Childress, Orth reached on an error, Lloyd also reached on an error to load the bases for Boesch who grounded into a 1-2-3 double play. In Highland's second game of the Triple, The Birds hosted 2014 15th Region winner Johnson Central HS out of Paintsville, KY. (Yes the same Johnson Central that got robbed in the State Tournament by inept umpires and temporary fences). JCHS 1 5 1 HHS 7 15 0 Again the bats were out in support of their pitcher Bailey Spencer, collecting 15 hits against 5 for the visitors. Spencer continued exhibiting her control allowing only one BB against 5 Ks. Rachell Gabbard made some stellar plays at second as not only was her bat hot this day but her glove as well... Doubles seemed to be the flavor of the day as the Birds pounded out 6 of them. Coffey 3-4, 2b 1 Rbi Gabbard 3-4 Dutcher 2-3, 2-2bs and 2 Rbis Graybill 2-4, 2b and 2 Rbis (This on an extremely hot day and having both games behind the dish) Quillen 2-4, 2b Dill 1-3, 2b The Birds hitting streak has driven the team BA to just shy of .400 with the Bash Sisters right around the .600 mark. What's been impressive has been the number of extra base hits this team has collected lately. The addition of Coffey to the line-up has added a new dimension as she is arguably the best base-runner on the team and finds a way to take the extra base to get in scoring position. The Bird's continue their Murderers Row week taking on Brossart, Ryle, NDA and Conner over the next 6 days.

As LB described, the Birds continue their hot hitting and much improved defense to best Turpin High School, OH 11 to 1 at the Bird Cage. The hitting was contagious yesterday as they took the first win of the Triangle with Turpin HS, Johnson Central and Highlands held at the Bird Cage on a sunny and HOT Saturday afternoon. Daley 3-3 2B and 3 Rbis Dutcher 3-4 2B and 3 Rbis Gabbard 3-4 and a Rbi Graybill 2-4 2B and a Rbi Quillen picked up 2 SBs on the day Spencer picked up the 5 inning 5 hitter win with 4 Ks against 2 BB and 0 ER

We appreciate the comment. As I stated, Roddy and his staff were very gracious as well as his team. We have no I'll will toward the team, coaches or fans at all. Just the announcer. I had a feeling it would be addressed. Thanks and hopefully we will see you at region.

The best part is, she could give a hoot about the avg or homers. She just wants to win and do whatever is best for the team...

Still is... .608. 10 hrs And I'm taking credit for all of them. She gets a blow pop prior to every game and I keep a bag full!!! I know... Odd but whatever works... Lol

I must throw in that it's bad when you go 3-5 with a double and a dinger and your BA drops a point or two. That SLG % keeps climbing though... Keep pounding it Thumper...

Bailey was locked in. Considering the erratic zone for both teams, both pitchers did well. HHS speed (not including my DD) made a big difference getting an extra at bat or two each inning. There were not many cheap hits last night by either team as the pitchers had, for the most part, a small zone to work with.

I'm with ya... Birds take on Holy Cross tonight at their place and then welcome Johnson Central and Turpin (OH) tomorrow to the Bird Cage which begins another tough part of the schedule having the Pandas and Cougars on the schedule next week. Prepping for that potential rematch in the districts with our foes on the "Hill". Not looking past the other district foes at all as we have to get there first.

I must clarify something. He was not announcing during the Pete Noll... Just mouthing off to the parents and touting that he was some kind of judge or something. One of our parents video taped the whole thing as it was quite ridiculous. Just got to love politicians...

You got me. It surely wasn't an inside joke to the parents. I wasn't paying much attention to it tonight as I was on the book but I was there at the Pete Noll and his actions didn't surprise me after that. It didn't seem to have an effect on Bailey as she had her tunnel vision on tonight and hitting her spots. Wouldn't even have mentioned it if it wasn't the buzz when I went to the stands after the game about how obvious he was making it.

The Lady Birds are on a mini roll besting the Colonels 9-4 under the lights tonight at Dixie. Very nice field by the way and well taken care of. Bailey Spencer had a nice homecoming striking out 5 against 1 walk and 1 earned run. She had a one hitter going into the fifth giving up 6 more over the last three frames. Dixie plated one in the 6th and three more in the 7th. Both pitchers (Garrett, Dixie) were dealing strikes as there was only the one walk in the game. The bats were alive tonight for HHS, pounding out 17 hits. Graybill went 3-5 adding a double and another blast to center for her fourth game with a HR in a row with 3 rbis. Fornash continued her hot streak going 3-4 with 2 stolen bases and a double. Dutcher tried to match Shelby but came up a few feet short but added a triple and another shot caught on the warning track. She went 2-3 with a HBP and 2 rbis. Spencer, H. Coffey and Daley all went 2-4 with Coffey picking up a triple. HHS 9 17 2 Dixie 4 7 2 Bailey Spencer got a warm welcome by the Dixie Coaches and her former teammates and it was nice to see. BUT not so much from the classless announcer, who announced every player on both teams by their FIRST and Last name with the exception of Bailey and toward the end would not announce her at all. We should have been prepared for that as he acted similarly at the Pete Noll a couple years ago. You have to expect announcers to be homers and they should be to an extent, but to single out one High School player and act that way toward them is really childish. Someone actually said he was an elected official... Sorry for the folks in whatever district he is in....

Hey our kids can always car pool. I can see CCHS 's field from my back yard. Nothing wrong with a little blue Kool-aid. Come to the Dark Side young Vans....

Same here. ...that long drive home was a killer. The Camels have a pretty nice team an surely don't quit. The line on the game was HHS. 8. 14. 4 CCHS. 7. 14. 3

Just had to beat me to the punch didn't you. Birds started a little erratic tonight committing three errors early. Then jumped out to a 8-2 lead until the bottom of the seventh when the camels had some well placed hits to plate 5 runs. Sara Tehaar for CCHS had a nice day at the plate with a couple doubles on three hits. For the Birds Graybill had another blast that cleared the 220 fence by 20 feet. When she squares up look out. Spencer picked up the win and the Birds head to Dixie tomorrow night for a game under the lights.

Lady Birds blank the Devils in this one. Spencer gives up the no hitter to the first batter and that's all they get. 4ks 1w 1 hit. Graybill, Dill, Spencer and Fornash go 3-4. Dutcher 2-4 as the Birds pound out 16 hits. Not sure how deep the fence is in left (got to be 250 plus) but it has a new dent in it from a Graybill blast. Tie for the best hit of the night as Coffey stretches a double into a triple Pete Rose style. Kid hates a clean uni. Birds added a new wrinkle at the plate last night and I must say was fun to watch. Should make Districts interesting. As mentioned in earlier threads, Dayton gets a great crowd and the kids play hard and cheer regardless of the score. No room at the Inn as at least 20 people out in the street as there was no room inside the fence. Kudos to their program.
