I must say in LBs defense. It really only matters what your team does against your opponents. Especially in your region where most teams know each other fairly well. What Haley Coffey does against pitcher x doesn't mean she will do the same against your team. The only thing that one may get are tendencies I.e. small ball or aggressiveness by the coaching. I feel like we do a good job of in game situation decisions rather than automatics. While all of our girls can hit, they also can play the small game if called upon. And to add to the game highlights... The first run of the game came on a pretty good hustle play by Coffey with the head first slide on a close play at the plate. Got to have a bunch of Tide on hand for that one after her games.

Well not a No-No but a pretty good game and as usual... with its share of thrills and really never out of reach for the Breds. Spencer had another stellar outing, giving up only 4 hits and 1 BB and striking out 5. This drops her season ERA to 1.66 against a pretty tough schedule... She also has had 147 Ks to date against only 34 Walks. I'll let LB give his version of the NCC side as I would hate to screw up a name or two. But I will say Haley Meyers (hope I didn't screw up her name) pitched well but seemed to be just a little off considering how well she usually does against us. The Birds picked up 9 hits on the night and some timely ones to score runners but left quite a few on base. As with the game last night, the Birds took advantage of couple miscues by the Breds to plate 5 with only 1 being earned. The Birds strike first scoring 1 in the first then 3 in the second with the last run in the 4th. The big controversy in the game was after Shelby Graybill was buzzed by her ear which drew a bit of a stare and then she popped to first. Kind of a bang bang play but there was a collision between Graybill and the 1st baseman, Bin. Bin held onto the ball but some fans felt the play was over the top. I will say though, not a great idea to send a fastball by Shelby's head... Nice fielding by the Birds tonight as they had a great game with 0 errors. The outfield of Fornash, Dill and Baioni has really begun to shine and are making some nice plays. Brooke has made great strides this year and with this lineup there really isn't any bottom after the first inning... All the batters are strategically placed... Not the typical line up you may see from more traditional teams. I wasn't able to be there tonight, so I had to rely on some help at the field so if I missed something I apologize.

In the case of Shelby Graybill... The fences prevented more homers than gave her... Some of her lasers would still be rolling... Put her on a field with 228 fences and she gets a couple inside the parkers... She is an efficient base runner and NOT as slow as some may think... I think the other thing is she did not play against a couple teams that probably cost her at least a couple.

Congrats to the Birds for punching their ticket to the Region tournament tonight with a 12-1 win over the Lady Cats of Newport. The Birds get the sticks out and gather nine hits with 5 of them of the double variety, Bailey Spencer pitched an awesome 3 hit game with 10 Ks 0 BBs 0 ER. Newport struggled a bit in the field committing 8 errors to help the HHS cause and the HHS Defense continues to get better committing 0 errors. If I remember right the kids are nominated but the coaches and stats are sent in and out to the coaches. The coaches cannot vote for their own players. I do not think positions are noted but not a terrible idea. I know the stats we send do not have positions.

4king I can understand your frustration and our stats are pretty good but we don't publish them individually until after the season. It may hurt for reasons like this but our goals are set as team goals. But I will say our Team BA was ,380 going into last night

The Lady Birds celebrate Senior Day for Whitney Quillen with a convincing win over Ryle in 4 innings for their 20th win on the season. Before the Game summary, I just want to say a couple things about Whit... For me, it's been a pleasure to watch her play and just be around her. A great student, 4.4 GPA and even a better person. This kid works hard at whatever she does and has earned whatever accolades she has received and even the few she hasn't. The kid cheerleads (and will do so as well as play softball at Thomas More) next season. She also has been a member of the HHS Basketball team. But really, she has been a great role model for not only my DD but all that she surrounds herself with. I am proud that she is in her life. Just a great kid and I wish her nothing but the best... We still have her for hopefully a few more games and I'm glad I get to watch her for at least one more. Good luck in all you do and The Birds will miss you next season. On to the game. Spencer in the Circle for HHS and Smith for NDA and both pitched good ball games. The Birds did well gathering 9 hits against one of the very top, if not the top, pitchers in the region. They just could not get that key hit to open it up. They left 12 runners on base in this one... unusual for the Birds as they have been pretty efficient getting base runners in. NDA on the other hand, took advantage of a couple HHS miscues and had a big double scoring two runs on Radford's Double. The Pandas stranded 6 on 5 hits.
