Knowing very little about Estill county makes it a tough one to call, but I will say that the Birds will play all 21 outs. They seem to be a lot less nervous than last week and ready to play. I know the Seniors, Kendall Turner and Ashley Grosser are not ready to play their last game quite yet and will be the leaders for the run. Mental toughness has been contagious in their streak and I don't see that going away. As a parent, I'm pretty proud of this bunch and am really looking forward to heading "to the 'ship" as Kendall puts it. Of course I'm wishing the best for these young ladies as they proceed on this endeavor. They seem to understand that they are not there just playing for the name on the front but the Ninth as a whole.

I agree here... That does seem like a lot. I would say at least in baseball or softball that maybe an apearence in 2/3rds of the games might be about right.. You may have a specialist... Say a young great base runner that may only be used to run bases but is in a lot of games. She would not get the innings but was an important part of the varsity roster and contributor. While her batting or fielding skills might not have matured yet she still could earn a letter. On the other hand, if you have a younger player that gets in do to a couple blowouts, I would think she might have a little more earning to do... Tough call for the coach if there are not guidelines. My thoughts are that it is a nice carrot to dangle to drive and push the players to want to get better and earn some pt. I have no answer on what would be the right amount or how to count it. I was just curious what's out there...

It's not all you can eat BBQ but maybe if the new concession stand/press box/restrooms get completed, we can work out some kind of deal with either city BBQ or chick fila for some good eats. Dinner and a good fastpitch game... Can't think of a better way to spend the evening... Just need meat puppy, four king crazy, smalls and myself to show up and we'll have a dome in no time....

This grabbed my attention in another thread and I was just wondering how teams determine how a letter is earned? My DD plays this sport so I thought I would bring it up here. A hundred years or so when I played football, "I think leather helmets were just going out of vogue," you had to play in X amount of quarters to earn a letter. Thank goodness I was a long snapper and we kicked a lot of extra points. My questions are, how does your team make that determination? And, does the "letter" carry the sense of accomplishment it used to?

Two things ...Milt is exempt from this challenge due to his AARP card restrictions but there is still time for RCC9 to work his self in to the Adonis like bodies of those mentioned above. The way we look at is that we get more T Shirt for the money now that we have qualified for the All A....

This was probably Kendall "Big Bird" Turner's favorite RBI of the season, if not most painful. Way to "wear it" KT!!!!

Awesome experience for the Lady Birds tonight. Not only the game but the fan support as well. Our awesome boys baseball team, the bird mascot and members of the " blue crew" were in attendance and they were loud. It was cool to stick my head out of the dugout and see the huge numbers, regardless of who they were rooting for. Thanks to all that were there supporting fastpitch.

S The pic shows it... You can see the skin deformation just below the wristband. That's where the ball glanced off her arm. That's where the bruise is just left her and it's pretty nasty.

I have to give huge props to coach Joe Stephenson from NDA. Super class act. As things were winding down he gathered the Birds in our dugout and gave congrats more importantly gave them an inspiring pep talk. NDA has a high quality program and that is in huge part to their leadership. Pretty cool move by coach Joe!!!

The batter has a huge bruise about 4 inches up her wrist. In the end the right call was made.

Great game for the Birds again. Awesome D again... Great base running and the sticks are back... Starting to seem like a broken record... Hope it keeps sticking... Bailey gave the Birds another nice job from the circle to back up Miranda's awesome performance last night. Graybill had an awesome day behind the dish and blocked quite a few in the dirt. I was pretty impressed with the number 1 from Boone. I understand she had some pretty major surgery but she did a nice job with the bat the last two games... 3 for 3 against Dixie with 4 ribs and had a nice single in the seventh tonight... Boone didn't play terribly just Bailey and the D put out some threats.

Nice win tonight ladies... Eighth Grader Miranda Mason pitches the first perfect game in Highlands history. She will be tested again tomorrow against the hard hitting Rebels of Boone County. All without any strikeouts. Her location was really good and only a couple hits were square. Some really nice defensive work behind her as the Birds put up another errorless game. Nine hits for the Birds and nice base running to take advantage of some miscues by the Holy Cross defense and pitching.

B Hey if we win the thing... Maybe we can get one of those cool t shirts like lawnboy has or better yet a banner.

I Got to take the heat for at least the Birds sometimes lack of voting. I get the reminders and sometimes feel it's more important to get the stats in SidStats than get Rob to vote. So you can blame the lack of votes from us on me. Selfish maybe a little bit but I want to make sure he has what he needs to keep the Birds in the W column. We have a tough one tonight and if we get past this one another challenge tomorrow. No easy ones from here on out... I'm not a coach so I'm not qualified to do the voting. I will say this though. I think most coaches get on here at some point and if there were more updates on how some of the lesser known teams were doing it might be easier to vote. We all can tell you about NCC and their season and get some info on HHS and NDA but little is on here about some other teams such as WV. We might see a score update every now and the but little details. I would love to hear more about WV as I had a summer player that now plays for them but rarely see anything...

Good luck to the Camels... Got a Summer player on the team and wish them well. Nothing against BBHS just gotta root for my girl Sarah.

Does anyone have any NKY district updates we can share on one thread? As of today in the 36th... HHS plays Dayton tonight in a semi-final with NCC waiting to see who they will play in the final on Thursday.

Veritas... Where are you getting "all" the players are nominated? We dress a minimum of 15 players and with JV completed we will dress a couple more than that. So at most 33% of the kids got nominated. Are you really saying that's too many? I didn't count so say its the same for each team and there are ten teams in a division. That's 150 kids playing for 18 spots on the first and second team.. To rate all 150 would be a daunting task. Narrowing it down to rating 50 or less makes much more sense. Again, not all coaches nominate 5 players. So yes there are a lot of players not getting nominated and probably some that should have been nominated but the 5 player limit may have knocked them out. The biggest issue with the whole thing is the timing... The changes this year helped, but to rate and nominate kids in the middle of April is way too early. Heck... Half the teams probably missed quite a few of their games this year and the body of work for the year is not well represented. It becomes a little bit of popularity contest due to a lack of stats. I understand the folks running this thing work hard at it and have to work even harder to get results in. But make the deadline the week before districts gives them two days to review the stats and send in votes and have the awards program the weekend right before districts as it is now. If you dont send in stats with your nominations, they're not nominated. If you don't get your votes in on time, your nominations are void. So nominations with current stats due Saturday, stats sent out Monday night to coaches, votes due Wednesday. Awards ceremony Saturday.

And highlands beat Conner and split with Ryle (disclaimer- true record against Ryle is 1-2 but I think it's fair to throw out one of the losses for this purpose due to the birds missing six starters in the tournament game... But we are not complaining.. In all honesty... What does this poll at this time mean anyway??? The districts and regional tournaments will sort it all out...

This really isn't an everyone gets a trophy thing...up to 5 players can get nominated, not the whole team. Not all teams nominated their limit. Cudos to the coaches that felt they only had those lesser numbers to nominate. I think most coaches take this seriously. The only addition that would be a nice, would be positions. I understand this would be difficult as what do you do with cases like Knotts and Smith but the coaches could determine this on their nominations. Similar to MLB. The only issue then becomes when you have two multi position players nominated for the same position. The reason I bring this up is there were very few outfielders even nominated and even fewer on the 1st or 2nd team. just a thought...

Got to agree with ya on this one LB... Who really cares who they were against for either player? Heck I'm not sure I could hit some of those bombs Shelby hit no matter who was pitching and I know I could pitch anywhere near as well as Haley. I have issues just trying to set the ball on a Tee. If the votes came out the way they did, and I'm sure they did, then congrats to both POY winners in D2. It's not like NCC can stuff the ballot box. They couldn't even vote for their own players. Although I would contend that the votes should be made public to take away any thoughts of conspiracy. Congrats to all those nominated and selected. Trust me having a DD that didn't make the cut makes it even more special nomination for the ladies to us.

Nice win by the Birds today... Nice momentum going into districts... Shout out to Kendall turner with a couple big rbis and brennah dutcher with a pair as well as going 3 for 4. Whitney Quillen started the game off with a triple and scored two pitches later on a wild pitch. Shelby Greybill smacked a couple nice line drives going 2for 3. Bailey spencer pitched another awesome game recording the win with 3 Ks. Wrong thread but the Birds put it to Ryle today not only winning this one but the JV Baseball team beat Ryle 6-0 in the JV Championship as well. Congrats to the hardballers as well...

Great night for the Birds but I must give some kudos to Rob and his staff on Senior night. After having no Seniors last year and taking the opportunity to give some limelight to NDA's Seniors, they followed it up this year by making sure to include Brossart's Seniors as well as our awesome Seniors this year, Kendall Turner, Ashley Grosser and KC Broering. I also have to give it up to Brossart as even though the day didn't go their way, they and the fans hung around to see all the young ladies recognized. Great job Kendall, Ashley and KC... but your job isn't over yet... we have a few more games to play... Well wishes to all the ladies beyond High School.
