The ending of this game was just UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

 

Notre Dame top of 7th......with 2-out and runners on 1st and 2nd on a 2-2 pitch to the batter, Abby Jones who is on 2nd, takes off for 3rd as Graybill tries to convince the home plate umpire that it was strike 3. Graybill's throw is there in plenty of time and she is out from you to me, but for only the grace of God she is called safe, and the Pandas get a huge break. The pinch runner (who's name escapes me) advances to 2nd on the play.

 

Kelsey Michel then hits one to the fence in right, Jones scores easily from 3rd, but the pinch runner on 2nd rounds 3rd bases and misses the base and is half way down the line before she has to retreat back to 3rd and now she can't make it home to tie the score. :facepalm: Feel extremely bad for this young lady, as she would have easily scored the tying run. The game ends with a pop-up to 1st. WOW!!!WOW!!!WOW!!!

 

Fielding miscues did the Pandas in, and they let the Birds hang around long enough.

 

Congrats to Coach Coffey, his staff, and especially his team, they bought into what he was selling and now their payday has come. Good luck in Owensboro.

Notre Dame 1st - Disastrous 1st inning for the Birds, Notre Dame scores 4 runs on wild pitches and 2 on a seeing eye single thru the 4-hole.

Highlands 1st - Whitney Quillen leads the the frame off with triple to the alley in right-center, drawing a blank how she scored.... defensive miscue results in another run.

 

Highlands 3rd - With one out a base hit, E6, hit batter, & E6 scores 1.....then Rachel Gabbard hits a one-hopper off the leftfield fence to drive in two more. E3 scores another. Notre Dame leftfielder Amanda Meager stops the bleeding with an "amazing" sliding catch.

 

Highlands 6th - Highlands had lead off batter reach on a walk, Peyton Leighty bunts and Kennedy Baugh throws wide to 2nd, but the runner is "gunned down" trying to advance to 3rd. Coach Coffey not happy!!!! With one out Quillen hits into a FC, Haley Coffey walks, Shelby Graybill walks. Haylee Smith then hits Kendall Turner (at 1st it was ruled a foul ball, after umpire conference they rule she was hit). Ashley Grosser with an RBI single to right, but runner on 2nd strays to far and is thrown out. However, the damage was done.

IMHO, the game should have been over with Jones out at 3rd the play before, she was out "dead to right". Maybe AllenR or paNDA have photographic evidence to support this claim?

The batter has a huge bruise about 4 inches up her wrist. In the end the right call was made.

They had a conference with the base umpires and they confirmed it hit her first

I have to give huge props to coach Joe Stephenson from NDA. Super class act. As things were winding down he gathered the Birds in our dugout and gave congrats more importantly gave them an inspiring pep talk. NDA has a high quality program and that is in huge part to their leadership. Pretty cool move by coach Joe!!!

The pic shows it... You can see the skin deformation just below the wristband. That's where the ball glanced off her arm. That's where the bruise is just left her and it's pretty nasty.
