I understand the softball and I would assume the baseball team won't be able to use it next week for tryouts. Timing off by just a week. Kind of a bummer considering the potential weather.

You know highlands#1 may be on to something here...especially since the Birds will be so terrible next year. The incoming seniors only accounted for at least 19 points in the Championship game and Kendell was an big part of the success of the running game all year. Why don't we just scrap the whole program. We could alternate the FTJFL teams each week. Shoot maybe we could scrimmage T on Saint Paddys day with the Green team ( I guess I couldn't complain about Green socks for that one) .

Starting to sound a little like someone else we know... Can't be a HHS fan and know this little about the program....

Better team in which half... I, and I'm sure most HHS fans would agree... OHS was the better team in the first half but that's been the HHS story in most games this year... Both teams turned the ball over but better teams learn and adjust... The coaches help but they do not play any of the downs. Better execution of the game plan was clearly the difference in the second half. Coaches don't call for turnovers and as I stated, both teams had them. The middle of our defense was porous in the first half but Mills and the rest of the middle decided to own it and the pressure helped take away the pass and the pitch. OHS is a super solid team and definitely earned the right to be there but the team that was better when it counted came out with the victory.... Congrats to both squads on an awesome game.

I also want to give a shout out as a very proud uncle to Mitchell Cain. Tough playing WR when you have a great one in number 6 in front of you but When your number was called, you stepped up and made the plays. Awesome TD catch!!! Flying that HHS flag proudly in Claryville!!! Can't wait to watch again next year....

Got to give some props to the D line tonight... There was absolutely nothing between the tackles... Mills seemed to have a chip on his shoulder in the first half... For a kid that was suspect to even play, he stepped it up... Nice job to all the guys on the line...

For a defensive end... Got to give HHS Mike Herrmann a vote here... He was relentless... Sent two Scott QBs out in ambulances and the third refused to go in... Probably a good idea that Spearing is not allowed anymore

On a side note here... The enquirer will have a tough time figuring this one out. Twice this year they have put pictures of Mitchell Cain #16 in the paper and used the name Jensen Feggins. Will the real HHS#16 please stand up... Hopefully he catches a TD or two just to see what the enquirer does... Lol

I agree on Olivia Jackson, she may not have the velocity of DK yet but her location is spot on and she gets better every time out. She pitched a few games for us in the summer and she pitched well and has a nice bat as well. And you couldn't ask for a nicer , more polite kid and great family. Wish her the best.... Except when playing the Birds... Of course

...I do apologize for all the mis-types and spellings.. Fat fingers and auto correct the blame for that... And for me... If they win another State Championship it will be just that... Another HHS ring... (that the kid with the green socks will want a green stone in). And if it was so much of a "back in my day" statement, why do these other successfull programs feel the need to show some type of unity and discipline. As for the bike riding... When it was required... You had a bike stored at someone's house in town and still rode to practice if you lived out of town. We had players who lived in either Southgate, or below Grand avenue that were cutoff when building 471 who had bikes on the other side of the , bridge to be, and they rode from there. Last I checked the school colors were Blue and White.... Not black, green, purple, grey, or even camouflage ... With the exception of Breast Cancer awareness games pink.... Wear the right colors... I know this is just a rant but "Back in my day" the we still seemed to be able to win AND learn some lessons along the way...

On my soapbox again but I believe some of who I am is due in part to being a part of the Highlands football tradition and the discipline, character and work ethic I was taught what seems like a hundred years ago. While the program is celebrating "100 years of excellence" it seems to me that this only is referring to the success on the scoreboard anymore. It surely isn't referring to any tradition that was built over the decades. While I attend as many games as I can and always root for the Birds, seeing what the coaches allow in their players pretty much disappoints me as a fan. I understand times change and the kids need more coddling today but it has been tough to watch what was once a proud disciplined program turn into whatever it is today. Ok, the days of the burr haircuts and riding your bikes to practice are gone... Don't agree with it but it is the day of play station Heavan forbid the kids have to put down a controller a few minutes early so they have to get on their bike for practice.... But on game day there needs to be some control over the product on the field. Watching the last two home game, I made a point to not only watch the Birds sideline antics but watched their opponents as well. In the Christopher Columbus game, one of their players decided to take his helmet off to "adjust something and decided to leave it off for a few minutes... That was until an assistant coach got in his face and let him know he was disrespecting his team and his "hat better not leave his head again unless he had "his" permission". All the while the Birds have a kid on the kick off team with Bright green socks on. since when has green been a part of any HHS uniform unless your a goalie on the soccer team. While we all have some issues with the Elder coach last night... Not one kid dared to remove his helmet during the game and I don't recall seeing any of them screwing around and not being ready if called into play. On the other sideline, my beloved Birds were about as rag tagged as the the Little Giants team in the movie. At least half if not more had their helmets off, quite a few sitting on the steps paying absolutely no attention to the game and the mis match of uniforms was ridiculous. With all he craziness of what happened to SKs night, I'll bet they looked more "uniform" than the Birds have looked recently. How difficult is it to all wear the same color socks? Tuck your jerseys in, at least to begin the game and act like you have at least a little pride in the colors you wear. You never know, there may be a time when your number is called and you won't have to look for your helmet, get up off your rear and run into the game. Does any of this translate into wins? I feel it helps and even if not, the lessons learned will benefit you many years down the road when, for almost all of them, football ends after high school and real life begins. Coaches... Have some pride... Instill some discipline and make these kids proud to be a part of this program... Not just for the wins but for the lessons the will have learned....
