Outlook for next year

Outlook for next year:

This next offseason could be one of the biggest in Highlands history.

Not only will the Bluebirds move up to Class 5A with Covington Catholic, they could face a tougher road back to Bowling Green. They will be in the same district with CovCath, Dixie Heights and Grant County next season.

Highlands needs some players to step forward from the junior varsity and freshmen squads. The Bluebird junior varsity finished 1-5 with the lone win coming against Covington Catholic. The freshmen finished 3-5 beating Simon Kenton, Boone County and Cooper.

Next year’s team will have an advantage in the new field house. It is expected to be finished early in 2015.

The Bluebirds may have to get by defending 5A champion Pulaski County in the state semifinals. The Bowling Green Purples and Graves County Eagles could be the main threat in the title game.

Was reading Fort Thomas matters and this is what I seen. Does this have anyone else concerned? How many seniors are we losing? What does the talent of the up coming class look like?

The fieldhouse is a nice-to-have but HHS has shown that not having those amenities is not a concern.

Football will definitely benefit from the field house...but the baseball coach and I will be the most benefited programs...IMO!

Totally agree. They have been doing it the old way for 100 years strong!

I am never concerned about the Highlands football program and what they are able to accomplish.

Wow! The paint isn't even dry yet on the State Trophy. From the looks of it, you are well connected to the younger programs. Go ahead and give your opinions first and I'm sure everyone else will follow. Have at it my friend!

Highlands will be the 5A favorite until someone can prove they can beat them.

I didn't write the article. Just asking how many are we losing and what does the 2015 class really look like. that's all.

Owensboro does return alot - but loses the QB. The 2 huge lineman return for Owensboro, as does Barret #6, James the FB and alot of the defense...all linebackers, all but 1 defensive lineman and 2 of the secondary. The QB will be the main issue, but the backup I've seen is pretty athletic.

OK. Thanks that was my question. While reading this article it seemed like a lot of our core players was leaving. So only a few are. Thanks

This my friend is something to worry about. Jv 1-5 and frosh 3-5? I know the Blue birds are a great team and all but they are also losing a lot of great players.

You said that already.... :idunno:

5A next year will be very entertaining. I'm very curious how things will turn out. Pulaski Co. is no fluke as they return just about everyone from this years State Championship team. Reminds me a lot of Bowling Green in 2012-2013. Both returned the core group of players.

I actually think 5A will be one of the strongest classes in the state next year. 6A will still have the super district, but 5A next year has teams capable of winning it spread all throughout the state. I wish Highlands and Cov Cath the best of luck.

The first game of the year next year against Cooper should be a good test for you all. Cooper won their regional title this year and fell to Pulaski Co. in the semi final game, so this could be a good measuring stick for you all seeing how Cooper returns the majority of their starters minus their QB next year.
