Spencer 5K's,

IMO, two of Casey Kohls fly-outs (1 to left & 1 to center), are over any 200 foot fence field as the Highlands outfielders made the catch on the warning track. I'm told the fences at the Birdcage are 210.

Well not a No-No but a pretty good game and as usual... with its share of thrills and really never out of reach for the Breds. Spencer had another stellar outing, giving up only 4 hits and 1 BB and striking out 5. This drops her season ERA to 1.66 against a pretty tough schedule... She also has had 147 Ks to date against only 34 Walks. I'll let LB give his version of the NCC side as I would hate to screw up a name or two. But I will say Haley Meyers (hope I didn't screw up her name) pitched well but seemed to be just a little off considering how well she usually does against us.

The Birds picked up 9 hits on the night and some timely ones to score runners but left quite a few on base.

As with the game last night, the Birds took advantage of couple miscues by the Breds to plate 5 with only 1 being earned.

The Birds strike first scoring 1 in the first then 3 in the second with the last run in the 4th.

The big controversy in the game was after Shelby Graybill was buzzed by her ear which drew a bit of a stare and then she popped to first. Kind of a bang bang play but there was a collision between Graybill and the 1st baseman, Bin. Bin held onto the ball but some fans felt the play was over the top. I will say though, not a great idea to send a fastball by Shelby's head...

Nice fielding by the Birds tonight as they had a great game with 0 errors. The outfield of Fornash, Dill and Baioni has really begun to shine and are making some nice plays.

Hitting leaders for the Birds

Gabbard 2-4 rbi

Graybill 2-5 2B

Quillen 1-3 3B rbi

If LB could post the All Tourney team I would appreciate it... I missed the first couple...

Boss had me cover this one. The Birds the much better team tonight.

Thanks for the detailed scouting report LB. I'm sure Coach C and Coach B appreciate the detail to the possible regional opponents.

A good draw could give the Lady Birds back to back titles.

Doubt Meyers was intentionally buzzing the tower. Over the past couple of years, her control has gotten much better (knew it would come around). When she was an 8th grader, she drilled a good number of batters in the games we played against her. How did the collision play out on that at-bat/popup? Fair territory or foul territory? was she in a defenseless position looking up at the ball or after the catch?

One thing is for sure the 9th region title won't be given to anyone. It will be earned by whoever wins 3 games in a row! The big question is which team can win 3 games in a row vs the best teams in the 9th Region. I am sure we will be ranking the 8 teams remaining sometime soon.

Who are Coach C & B? And what could they learn from this? We hit a lot of fly balls, had a couple ground outs, a couple batters struck out, you could score a few runs on fielding miscues.......this isn't the Major Leagues. Your assertion is a stretch at best. :ohbrother:

While Haley has improved on her HBP count, she has hit 20 batters so far this season and NOT one of them is intentional, nor does she yet have the command to throw inside high and tight to push a batter back off the plate. It was simply a pitch that got away from her and it came inside tight.

As for the play at 1st. Bin caught the ball 10 feet down the line and right on the baseline. By rule the hitter must give way to the fielder in that situation. This is interference on the runner even if she is running on the baseline. The onus is on the runner to run around the fielder so as not to interfere with her.

Either way the umpires rule one team is not going to be happy, as far as I'm concerned it's over and done with, time to move on.

The collision down the first base line looked bad, but unintentional IMO. The pop fly off the end of the bat led the NCC first baseman into the running path of the hustling HHS catcher. The first baseman caught the ball just before collision occurred.

Was interference called or was nothing called at all since she caught the ball? Just wondering...

Sounds like an out with no I on the O here

I must say in LBs defense. It really only matters what your team does against your opponents. Especially in your region where most teams know each other fairly well. What Haley Coffey does against pitcher x doesn't mean she will do the same against your team. The only thing that one may get are tendencies I.e. small ball or aggressiveness by the coaching. I feel like we do a good job of in game situation decisions rather than automatics. While all of our girls can hit, they also can play the small game if called upon.

And to add to the game highlights... The first run of the game came on a pretty good hustle play by Coffey with the head first slide on a close play at the plate. Got to have a bunch of Tide on hand for that one after her games.
