Okay, I'm not going to pretend to be as good as Lawnboy, but I'll at least give you a little info!

 

The Birds return their entire team after an 18-12 season and a regional semi-final loss to the eventual champions Notre Dame. The Birds will definitely be challenged with this year's schedule. They added 6 out of state opponents, will play in two other tournaments...as well as all the tough local competition.

 

The Birds will also open their new field in the 2014 season (The Bird Cage). The field is beautiful and the girls are extremely excited. Thanks to the City, the School, the HHS boosters, the parents and other organizations around the city, we were able to create a beautiful new home. We may not be completely finished with the surroundings for the 2014 season, but the field will be ready and the playing surface should be top notch!

 

 

Highlands will be led by Seniors Kendall Turner (1B), Ashley Grosser (CF) and KC Broering (LF).

Will field eventually have lights?

 

Just curious how you got the out of state teams on schedule and how do you get the kids to the games?

It helps when you have all the info in front of you to be as detailed as I was. However you did a nice job on the preview.

 

The Breds look forward to opening up the "Bird Cage". BTW, love the name, Bird Cage. :thumb:

 

While the Breds have a "loaded" Jr. class, your So. bunch is WAY talented. Looking forward to our match-ups again this season. 3 one-run games last year, definitely gave the fans some exciting games to see.

Lights are still an option. They laid all the groundwork and electric for them. We haven't really discussed it in detail other than we would love to have lights there at some point. As you know, it takes more than just putting them up. I'm sure the surrounding neighborhood may have something to say before they would pull the trigger. But we aren't going to stop pushing.

 

As for the out of state games, I have a few contacts through summer ball. But I really just started calling schools and asking if they wanted to play. Then I would ask that coach "who else is good?" and then call them!

 

We will take vans to those games. One is at home. One is in Indiana. The others are what they call a "Tri". Basically, 3 teams get together and play each other at one location.

HHS should have another solid year. If they come together they should make the 9th region tourney again this year. They are for sure the 2nd best team in the district!!

 

All kidding aside HHS could possible make the leap and really contend for the 9th region championship. They return everyone but so does almost all the teams in front of them last year so I think everyone is thinking the same thing.

We may be .500 by districts, but we'll be tested! It should be a fun year in the 9th. A lot of teams with a lot coming back. Our girls know we can't be the best without beating the best and until that happens, we are what we are. Hopefully we are ready to make a leap. We had an outstanding fall and more girls than ever played summer ball this year. We are very excited to get started!

I joke about this all the time. I think most the HHS and NDA parents know that, the ones that don't so be it.

 

I think the girl you are talking about is a freshman so I guess she is able to transfer without having to sit out.

 

I hate the transfer rules, I don't want to see school recruiting either but in the end the transfer rule only hurts the kid. Most the time they have little to no say in what school they attend so we punish kids for their parents decisions.
