Rules question regarding trips to the mound

Featured Replies

Question on trips to the mound... Here is the situation... End of the inning and as the third base coach crosses the field he stops at the mound to chat with his pitcher on the way to the dugout. I know in baseball that is considered a trip. Does that same rule apply to fastpitch?

Unless the coach lingers after the warmup pitches are completed it is not a charged conference in baseball.

In baseball if the pitcher keeps throwing and their warmup is not significantly slowed down I don't believe it is a conference unless the coach lingers like Clyde said.

This is not a charged conference. If the umpires are following the rule book, there is not really enough time to have a "conference" with your pitcher in between half innings.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like there is a tiny bit of gray area but for the most part no "trip"

Saw it last night by a coach stopping by the mound on his way to the dugout to talk to pitcher…game management process is 1 minute in between half innings, so the pitcher just gets limited on her warm up pitches. Just curious if this was a NKY school you saw this happening with. It is worth considering.
