Overall I think it's close but this year the Tenth Region from top to bottom is stronger than the 9th. The Ninth has better overall pitching but the tenth hitting is better and the number of top teams may be deeper. A good test might be the Pete Noll Classic of course there will be 10 Ninth Region Teams and only Four 10th Region teams. Lets see how Bracken Co., Bishop Brossart, Nicholas Co., and Campbell Co. fare with the Ninth. Not all the teams are in it but Conner, Boone Co. , Notre Dame and several of the top 9th Region teams are. I think realistically in the 10th Region 9-10 Teams are in contention where in the 9th probably more like 4 or 5 for the Region Championship.

Ill post the brackets for you tomorrow. A complimentary t-shirt was sent to all Head Coaches in the tournament along with an order form that they need to return by March 9. That insures the shirts will be available at the tourney and you get a $3.00 discount. A limited number will be sold at the tourney. Coaches have had brackets at least a month. As far as some of the game times...the pool Nicholas Co. is in had that happen beause Nicholas could only play on Saturday.

Through the years numerous proposals have been made to restrict high school athletes from playing on outside AAU teams etc during the school year. Currently only basketball and football has restrictions. The proposals have always been voted down because schools in Louisville, Lexington, and even some in Northern Ky were worried that given the restriction kids would choose to play on the outside teams and it would hurt or in some cases destroy their high school teams. It is a concern particularly for small schools. We tell them that everything we do comes first period. It has never been an issue for us.

The old adage reads “When the going gets tough the tough get going.” On Wednesday night in Carlisle, Kentucky the Lady 'Stangs of Bishop Brossart reached back and got going. They came from behind to beat Pendleton County and advance to the 10th Region Semifinals next Monday at Nicholas Co. High School. Trailing 26-24 at the half and playing without Two Time First Team All Region Player Sarah Futscher, the team used a team effort and some solid defense to rally and beat the Lady Cats 58-51. Bishop Brossart now advances to play Montgomery County on Monday in a rematch of the Region's Top Two Teams won 16 days ago by Montgomery Co. 50-49. Montgomery Co. defeated Bracken Co. and is now 26-6 while Brossart improves to 24-7. The Lady 'Stangs, with 1,000 pt scorer Sarah Futscher at home with the flu, got outstanding performances from junior All-Region Player Abby Stadtmiller who tossed ina game high 20 points and freshman Emily Schultz who scored 12 and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds. Stadtmiller was 8 of 16 from the floor and knocked down 3 threebombs from outside. Junior Madison Eisenman was clutch from the line making all six attempts. Junior Morgan Verst was 2 of 2 from three point land and 3 of 4 from the charity stripe to finish with 9. Rachel Hartig 4, Kayla Young 3 and Mama Greis 4 rounded out the scoring. Brossart's defense was a big key with 14 steals to none for Pendleton Co. and also in forcing the Lady Cats into 18 turnovers. The 'Stangs held a slim 43-39 edge on the boards and led in most categories including advantages in free throw points 19 to 8, Pts off turnovers 14 to 7, three point points 15 to 9, second chance points 21 to 11, and points off the bench 21 to 6. Overall a good night and a nice win at the new Nicholas County Fieldhouse where Brossart remains undefeated winning the All A Region there in 2012 and now the opening game of the 10th Region in 2013. Two more would be nice.

Our pitcher Karlie Shackelford should have an outstanding season. Last year she won 20 plus games as a freshman at a new school and had an ERA of under 3.00. She is also an excellent hitter. She had some big shores to fill following Bellarmine standout Alicia Miller. She worked hard in the offseason with her pitching coach as well as Miller who worked with her on her speed among other things. Look for an even better pitcher in 2013. Mary Kay Reilly also worked hard in the offseason amd should be ready to contribute as well. The Lady 'Stangs defense could be one of the best, if the hitting is consistent this year they could accomplish a great deal.

Same teams again Bourbon Co., Nicholas Co. Bishop Brossart, Bracken Co., George Rogers Clark and Montgomery back in the saddle with Bart Back. Bishop Brossart won 26 games last year, plays one of thee best schedules and returns starters at pitcher Karlie Shackelford, first base Maria Greis, shortstop Allie Anstead, thirdbase Gretchen Trumbo, left field Shannon Kremer and centerfield Tricia Kramer. They lost second and right but have a host of veteran and young players (30 in all along with 16 seventh and eighth graders to fill the void) They also return pitcher Mary Kay Reilly and Super sub Emily Greis who should start this year and several others from a team that won the District last year. Should be much improved with most returnees starting their third year as starters. This is a team that has the last two years started a lot of freshmen and sophomores who are just now coming into their own. They have a new field, new uniforms and will start off the year with a Florida Trip and the Uncle Pete Classic so as always Coach Baynum's team will only get better.

The Kramer-Kremer duo from BBHS may be the best two defensively in the region.

Allie Anstead of Brossart will begin her third year and still a junior at Short for Brossart this year. Batted over .400 and has developed into a soild all around player and should have a great offensive player. In her two years at short as a starter team has won 52 games and two District Championships.

NKAC and NKCA are two different animals. NKAC is conference the other is Region. They don't have a website for the Region.

I think as a three year starter with the team's success and her combination of offense and defense Maria Greis is at the top of the list. We are expecting her to have a huge senior season this year.

I have seen her pitch and she is a good pitcher but the 9th and 10th Region have a lot of very good pitchers so if you are ranked anywhere in the Top 10 I think that is a positive thing for any pitcher. Let's see how the season plays out ... in the end we will see who the best are by what they achieve.

It was girl's Senior Night at Seither Center and the Lady 'Stangs didn't disapoint as the three seniors all had nice games and junior Sarah Futscher joined the elite 1,000 point club at Bishop Brossart in the first quarter. The 'Stangs jumped out to a 23-8 first quarter advantage with Futscher scoring her 1,000th point in the first quarter on her fourth point of the game. She becomes only the second Lady 'Stang to reach the club in the last seven years. (Emily Sanker had 1,034). Brossart opened a 34-11 lead at the half and 14 different Lady 'Stangs saw significant playing time except for the injured Olivia Nienaber and Kayla Young. Senior Rachel Hartig led all scorers with 12 points while fellow seniors Maddi Kues and Maria “Mama” Greis each tossed in 8 points each in the final regular season tuneup for the Districts. Hartig had a solid game with 8 steals, and 3 assists hitting 5 of 7 from the floor and a perfect 2 of 2 from three point land. Brossart is now 22-6 (the region's second best record next to Montgomery Co. at 23-6) while St. Patrick falls to 1-24. Freshman Sydney Shannon had her first double figure game with 10 points. Futscher scored 8 points, in limited play (15:15). Brossart dominated most aspects of the game with huge advantages in points off turnovers (21 to 2), second chance points (23 to 0) while also leading in rebounds 30-22 and field goal percenatge 46.9% to 30.6%. The Lady 'Stangs will now play the winner of the Calvary Christian and Silver Grove game on Wednesday at 6 PM at Campbell County Middle School. They earned the number one seed by beating Scott 79-54, Campbell Co. 55-40, Silver Grove 73-7 and Calvary Christian 59-18 in District Seed games. Entering 37th District Play Brossart is 22-6, Scott 17-10, Campbell Co. 12-16, Calvary Christian 10-18, and Silver Grove 0-27.

Actually if they played it all in one week like the All A Rupp would be doable. My understanding is they have ti rent the facility for a whole week.

Yes you may only have two scrimmages. You can actually play your first game as early as March 6 but once you play a regular season game you cant play your scrimmages anymore. We practiced outside yesterday at the new field and don't scrimmage til mid March we have Ryle and Bourbon County.

Playing summer ball doesn't mean a lot unless you know how good the competition is and how many games you play against top competition. We used to play 100 plus games in the summer and won quite a few games by scores like 26-1 and 34-0 so just because you play it doesn't necessarily mean it makes you better than the competition. It comes down to talent in the final analysis.

Notre Dame just got 50% better with Haylee Smith and Bishop Brossart (8 Starters back plus some new players, 30 trying out) will be improved for sure. A lot of temas will be better just by being a year older and having most players back. However time and competition will prove all of that at time. Right now who really knows there are so many factors not to mention team chemistry and staying free of injuries.
