  1. Bishop Brossart and Newport, despite being NKAC Division II members, had not met on the softball field since 2012 when the Lady 'Stangs defeated the Lady Cats 6-1 when Katlyn Hoeh and Karlie Shackelford were freshmen. Today the Lady 'Stangs defeated Newport 14-2 in five innings at Alexandria City Field. Senior Hoeh was on the mound for the Lady Cats still but with Shackelford ill today sophomore Megan Seiter scattered 4 hits over five innings with no walks and 6 strikeouts to raise Brossart's season record to 16-11 while Newport falls to 4-4. That kept the Lady 'Stangs slow pitch and fast pitch record perfect against Newport dating back to 1980. Newport scored first when Kylie Orr's grounder down the first base line plated two and suddenly the Lady cats were up 2-0. Brossart got two back in the first when Amanda Graus and Amanda Lloyd singled and then Graus scored on a single by Jordyn Boesch to left. They left two runners on base. Newport would only manage two singles the next four innings while plated 7 in the second and 6 more in the fourth. Brossart scored 14 runs on 16 hits lead by three hits each by Lloyd and Boesch. Kaitlyn Seiter knocked in three runs and Graus, Megan Seiter and Macy Griffin each had two hits to pace Brossart. Griffin tripled in the fourth. The Lady 'Stangs host Lloyd in an NKAC game tomorrow at home and then travel to scenic Bracken County on Friday to battle the Polar Bears.
  2. The Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs took care of business in Taylor Mill, Ky tonight beating Scott in 5 innings 11-0 to earn the Number One seed in the post season 37th District Tournament. Brossart outscored District opponents 53-1 beating Calvary 17-0, Campbell Co. 3-1, Scott 11-0 and Silver Grove 22-0. The lone run was produced by an error. In the first inning Amanda Lloyd doubled and then scored on two wild pitches. They added two more in the second as Kaitlyn Seiter walked and then came home on a long Macy Griffin triple. Griffin then scored on a Riley Orth single. They tacked on seven more in the third as Amanda Graus and Lloyd reached base twice with Graus recording two steals in the same inning. They added a final run in the fifth. Meanwhile Senior pitcher Karlie Shackelford was tossing a perfect game for Brossart allowing no baserunners in 5 innings while striking out 6. 3. It was a night of missed opportunities for the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs leaving six runners in scoring position with less than two outs, however a solid defense and good pitching enabled Brossart to hold on for a 3-1 win over Campbell Co. in the all important 37th District seed game. The win gives Brossart a 3-0 District record with just a remaining game with Scott. Bishop Brossart now has a 12-5 record while Campbell Co. falls to 6-6. In the first inning Ashley Childress drilled a game opening single to left and advanced to second on a bunt by Amanda Graus. Seconds later Amanda Lloyd drilled a shot to right to plate Graus and it was 1-0 Lady 'Stangs. Brossart had scoring opportunities in every inning but didnt crack the scoring column again til the 5th. In that inning. Childress walked and Graus reached on a fielders choice to set the table for Amanda Lloyd who this time slammed a long triple to deep left to knock home two (her 35th and 36th rbis of the year). The 3-0 lead held until a mini rally by Campbell produced a run to make it 3-1 but Brossart worked out of the jam. Brossart is off Thursday before traveling to the National Guard Classic in Richmond this weekend to play Madison Southern and Jenkins. They have a full schedule next week including a trip to Owensboro, Ky for the Touchstone Energy All “A” State Tournament. The junior varsity beat Campbell Co. 5-3 with Elizabeth Martin breaking a 3-3 tie in the fourth with a home run.

  5.
