The Lady 'Stangs nine game winning streak finally came to an end falling to a good Holy Cross team 51-41 at Seither Center Friday Night. Prior to the game the first girl's team in school history from 1976 was honored. Holy Cross jumped out to an early lead and extended that to 13-7 after a quarter but strong run by took the Lady 'Stangs into the locker room with a 23-21 advantage at the half. The Lady Indians stormed back early in the second half though and led by as many as 11 points at 38-27. Brossart did manage to cut the lead to 5 points twice in a game that was tied 4 times and exchanged leads 4 times. Holy Cross dominated the boards 32-20 and outshot Brossart 46.9% to 37.8%. Brossart did a nice job holding Holy Cross star Deasia Beal to just three field goals but when fouled she converted 10 of 11 from the line to finish with 16 while the Lady 'Stangs were connecting on only 11 of 21 as a team. Junior center Sarah Futscher continued to impress with an 18 point, 7 rebound effort hitting 7 of 12 shots from the floor to lead Brossart. Junior Abby Stadtmiller contributed 8 for the home standing 'Stangs. Brossart played again without Madison Eisenman and Morgan Verst who both should be ready for the Wednesday State Tournament Game. Holy Cross improves to 14-3 (the second best record in the 9th Region) while Bishop Brossart falls to 16-4 (Still the best record in the 10th Region) entering the All “A” State. The Lady 'Stangs did manage to win the junior varsity contest in convincing fashion crushing Holy Cross 46-26. The Lady 'Stangs led most of the game and outscored the Lady Indians in every quarter. Abby King had a nice game for Brossart with 12 points hitting 5 of 8 from the floor. Sydney Shannon added 10 and Emily Schultz 7. Thursday night the JV also rolled in the Northern Kentucky Junior Varsity Tournament beating Lloyd 46-16.

It's always nice to “Go home to your Alma Mater” and see your team play in Northern Kentucky's best basketball gym, the David M. Evans Fieldhouse. Kudos to the Administration for the new floor and graphics that lighten the 45 year old facility. You can almost hear “Big Daddy” Ellis barking, Reynolds Flynn screaming “Run the offense,” and see Denny Soard pacing the sidelines. It's almost a Hall of Fame in itself. On Tuesday evening Sarah Futscher and Company held on to beat a solid Holmes Lady Bulldog team 60-54. The Lady 'Stangs are now 16-3. When the old Famous Recipe Classic was being played the team that won on Saturday always considered the following Tuesday the most dangerous night of the season. Eight of ten years the team that won lost the following Tuesday so it was impressive the Lady 'Stangs kept their focus and took care of business following their big All "A" Classic Title on Saturday. It was certainly a nice evening for one of the best players in Northern Kentucky, the 10th Region and perhaps the state. Junior center Sarah Futscher put on a clinic of how to play the game scoring a career high 27 points. She connected on 10 of 14 shots from the floor including a perfect 2 of 2 on three point attempts and tossed in 5 of 6 from the charity stripe. She also found time to lead the Lady 'Stangs in rebounding with 7. "Sarah is starting to mature as a player who can play out on the floor and also with her back to the basket," exclaimed Feldmann. "We certainly hope to see Sarah continue to develop and play on the next level." Holmes had two outstanding performances as well getting 24 from sophomore Deja Turner and 18 from senior Tamra Holder. The Lady Bulldogs outrebounded their counterparts 28-24. Both teams shot well from the floor with Brossart winning that battle 50% to 46%. Holmes, while 8-10 has scored some nice wins this season including wins over Campbell County 76-73 and Holy Cross 66-55 on January 5. Brossart jumped out to an early 15-8 lead and increased that to 27-15 at the half. The second half would see a Holmes comeback that got the lady Bulldogs within 6 points twice in the closing two minutes but some clutch free throws helped seal the deal for Brossart. Junior Abby Stadtmiller also had 10 and junior Kayla Young 7 for Coach Josh Feldmann's club. It was the eighth straight win for Brossart after an opening loss in the STAXX bar-BQ Capital City Showdown to Number 2 Ranked Anderson County 38-45, they beat 5th Ranked Manual 53-46, Richmond Indiana 50-30 and 8th Region Runnerup Owen County 50-45. The Lady 'Stangs then captured the Crosstown Shootout with Campbell County 55-40 setting the stage for last week's Touchstone Energy 10th Region All “A” Tournament where they beat Calvary Christian 46-10, Nicholas County 55-32 and Bracken County 45-41 to successfully defend their title and head to state next week. They will try to make it 17-3 entering the state event Friday when they host Holy Cross (13-3) at Seither Center in a tripleheader. Between games the Lady 'Stangs will honor members of the first ever Brossart team from 1976. In the junior varsity game Holmes rallied from an eight point deficit in the closing minutes, but the Mustangs held on for a 40-39 win led by freshman Emily Schultz' 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Maybe we could get a Federal Grant and do a study. We could have someone go to a game at every gym in Kentucky and declare a winner. The school gets free Popcorn for a year to sell!:popcorn:

The 10th Region meets in April and sets up and draws every sport for the All "A" Touchstone Energy Tournaments. We pick site for golf and draw then for the next year's volleyball, boys basketball, girls basketball, softball, baseball, and this year we will add girl's and boy's soccer. It helps so that when you are ready to schedule it is all available to you. Basketball will try a new format next year with the boys and girls regional the same week at the same site. It also gives you a chance ot correct any issues or make changes monthes in advance. Just a thought!

Uncle Bill used to call games like this “frog Stranglers” back in the day. One thing is certain...when the Lady Polar Bears of Bracken County and the Lady 'Stangs of Bishop Brossart meet on the hardwood it will be a close hard fought game. When the final buzzer sounded Bishop Brossart had successfully defended their 10th Region Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic Championship defeating Bracken County 45-41. Bishop Brossart, who finished third in the All “A” State last season, will play Wednesday January 23 at 10:00 AM versus the Region 1 Winner In Frankfort. Murray is the favorite there. It is a rare seeded All “A” Tourney. Tonight's “Titanic Struggle” as our ole Buddy Marty Brennaman might say saw the first quarter end in a 13-13 tie. The Polar Bear defense was giving Brossart some opportunities but they were not connecting on the outside shots. They hit only 30% from the floor in the first half and 22.2% from three point land. The Polar Bears battled to an 11-8 second quarter advantage to take a 24-21 lead at intermission over the defending champions. This game would see 5 lead changes and the game tied 8 times. Then suddenly in the second half the Lady 'Stangs seemingly started to pull away a bit taking their largest lead twice at 11 points at 37-26 and 39-28 but Bracken County and Coach Patrick Kelsch kept fighting back and got to within 4 points twice. A 13-2 third quarter gave them a big boost. “We just talked at the half about getting back to basics and being us,” said a drained Head Coach Josh Feldman who saw his team improved to 15-3 on the season. “We played well but just couldn't hit some shots and missed a lot of free throws.” The Lady 'Stangs ended up 12 of 28 from the charity stripe and missed several at the end where they could have put the game out of reach. Bracken County fell to 13-3 with the loss. The Lady Polar Bears managed just 7 of 21 from the line. Had either team took advantage of the 49 total free throws shot it could have been a different game. Brossart led in most categories outrebounding the Lady Polar Bears (41-30), and holding advantages in free throw points (12-7), Pts off turnovers (10-8), three point points (15-6), second chance points (7-6), defensive stops (42-37), assists (8-4) and points off the bench (11-2). The one category that was very uncharacteristic for them was having m,ore turnovers than their opponent tonight (17 to just 15 for Bracken Co.). Madison Eisenman joined Abby Stadtmiller and Sarah Futscher on the All-Tournament Team. Futscher led Brossart with 13 while Eisenman added 11. Rachel Hartig had 8, Maria Greis 7 and Stadtmiller 6. Junior guard Jordan Wills had 19 for Bracken while freshman guard Baily Cummins tallied 12. Next up for Bishop Brossart a Friday night home game with Covington Holy Cross and DeAsia Beal while Bracken Co. hosts George Rogers Clark next Saturday. Nicholas County came into the semifinal game of the Touchstone Tenth Region All “A” Classic as the highest scoring team in the 10th Region. Once again it was Bishop Brossart's defense that proved to be the edge for Coach Josh Feldmann's team forcing the Lady Jacket's into 16 turnovers and a 38.5% shooting percentage. When the game ended Bishop Brossart had advanced with a 55-32 win. It was their lowest scoring total of the year. The previous low was 37 in a 43-37 loss to Rowan County. Brossart improves to 14-3 while Nicholas Co. ends their All “A” run at 12-7. Cori Ziegler gave the 'Stangs some outside punch with a 15 point performance hitting 7 of 14 shots, while Sarah Futscher was an inside force again with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Brossart had a 32-18 advantage on the boards and held a 15-0 edge in second chance points and 12-0 in points off the bench. The Lady 'Stangs held a 19-13 first quarter advantage and opened that up to 31-22 in the second quarter. A 24-10 third quarter put the game out of reach. Madison Eisenman chipped in 7 points for the 'Stangs. Reese Martin had a solid game for the Lady Jackets to lead all scorers with 17. Bracken County pulled away in the final minutes from paris for a hard fought 49-34 win the play Brossart in the Championship game at 7 PM Saturday at Paris. The game will feature the 10th Region two winningest teams so far this year. Brossart is 14-3 while the Lady Bears enter the contest 13-2. Bishop Brossart beat Bracken County in both meetings last year. They are the defending 10th Region All “A” Champions. They beat St. Patrick 45-29 in last year's region final and wound up finishing third at the Touchstone State Tournament in Frankfort, Ky.

(Alexandria, Ky.) For Immediate Release…..Bishop Brossart High School today named Lee Teegarden as the school’s new Head Football Coach. He replaces Matt Reinhart. An extensive search for Reinhart’s successor produced 37 applicants. The team was informed after school today and Coach Teegarden met with his players at Ryle. “Our committee was unanimous with the decision that Lee Teegarden was the best fit to be Head Coach at Bishop Brossart,” said Bishop Brossart Athletic Director Mel Webster “We had applicants from as far away as California, Minnesota and Florida and we wish to express our gratitude and appreciation to all who showed interest in our program.” Teegarden has an extensive coaching background. He was Assistant Varsity Football Coach, Head Junior Varsity and Head Freshmen Coach at Campbell County High School from 1998-2002.

Let's see so far Brossart is 12-3 which is the best record in the 10th and would be top 3 in 9th Region. We beat the team, Owen Co., with the best record in the 8th. We beat Number 5 ranked Manual, beat Ryle, beat Mason County. Finished 4-0 in Distirct beating Campbell Co. by 15, Scott by 25, Calvary by 41 and Silver Grove by 66. Brossart is undefeated (6-0) in Region, undefeated (4-0) in District and earned top seed. They finished 3-1 in a tough Christmas Tourney losing only to the number 2 ranked team in the state Anderson County. They have scored 866 points while allowing just 623 while playing probably the best schedule of any tenth region team. Coach Feldmann is now 56-21. As Joe Friday used to say on Dragnet "Just the facts, just the facts."

Bishop Brossart is excited about the 46 we have signed up. One of our most talented teams ever, a new home field, our largest tournament ever, a trip to Florida in April and 22nd straight trip to the Region! :clap:

We hope to have a decision and announcement on Wednesday. We had a search committee that met and took the 37 applicants and narrowed it to five for interviews. Those interviews were conducted and the information and recommendation will be presented to the Principal on Monday and then he will actually offer the job on Tuesday. We will announce the committee and the new coach on Wednesday after the team is informed first. There was a solid mix of current head coaches, former head coaches, coordinators from good schools and a great deal of interest in the program and job. The theme among all those apllying was consistent. Brossart has been very successful in athletics there is no reason football can't reach the same levels.

Brossart is a Top 20 Team this year. They have basically everyone back from a 25-8 team last year and will have everyone back but Hartig again next year and a great group of freshmen that play jv and freshmen. The Lady 'Stangs will be tough the next four years. One player isn't going to beat a good team. The Lady 'Stangs were close to having four in double figures, didn't shoot real well as they had been, and still won pretty easy. Brossart physically was far from 100%. The thing that sets Brossart apart is that tough defense, team work and overlal depth and team balance. They have three freshmen that would start on most 10th Region teams. Coach Feldmann was Northern Kentucky Coach of the Year last year and 10th Region Coach of the Year. He will make adjustments too. Last year wasn't adjustments it was a serious injury to Eisenman with her ankle and Futscher had the flu!

:clap: There is a scene in the movie Hildago where the horses race across the desert. I was reminded of that movie tonight as the Lady 'Stangs of Bishop Brossart raced across the floor at Campbell County Middle School in a solid dismantling of the Lady Camels of Campbell County. The final score was Bishop Brossart 55, Campbell County 40. The win clinches the Number 1 seed for the 37th District Tournament in February which should pretty much give them a bye and then the winner of Silver Grove and Calvary while Scott will now battle for the 2 and 3 seeds to play each other. Brossart is finished with District seed games at 4-0. Several of the Bluegrass Preps fans wanted to know this week who could stop Campbell County star Taylor Robinson. The answer was the Bishop Brossart defense which may be the best in the 10th Region. Coach Feldmann's attack defense held Robinson to just 3 field goals and seven points. The better question might have been who would stop the Lady 'Stang offense that saw four players score seven or more points and another duo with 5 and 4. “It was a great overall effort as a team both offensively and defensively. We forced them into 20 turnovers and made 15 of 18 from the line. I'm very proud of them as always,” exclaimed Feldmann after the game. Brossart jumped to an early 12-7 lead and then saw Campbell tie it and take a brief lead at 15-14. The game was actually only tied once and the lead exchanged hands just twice. Brossart began to pull away in the second quarter and built a 25-16 advantage by intermission. Their largest lead over the Lady camels was 46-28 midway thru the fourth quarter. Brossart got their usual inside outside balance but tonight was a bit more inside oriented with Junior Sarah Futscher scoring 11 points and having 7 rebounds. Senior Maria Greis had one of her best games of the year with 10 points and 3 of 4 from three point range. Brossart tossed in 8 three bombs to just two for the Lady Camels. Junior Abby Stadmiller provided the long range firepower tossing in a game high 18 points including 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. Senior Rachel Hartig had 7 points, junior Madison Eisenman 5 and junior Cori Ziegler 4. Molly Kitchen led all Lady Camel scorers with 11 points. Brossart dominated most categories except rebounding where Campbell held a slight edge. The led in free throw points (15 to 6), Pts off Turnovers (16 to 8), 3 point points (24-6), second chance points (7 to 3) Steals (11-2) and Assists (12 to 6). The Lady 'Stangs improve to 12-3 and win the Crosstown Shootout before a large crowd for the second straight year. Brossart won 54-43 last season. Campbell County falls to 5-10. Campbell's January 18 game with Scott will determine the 2 and 3 seed. The junior varsity game tonight was all BBHS as well as the Lady 'Stangs won easily 38-28 led by 13 points from freshman Emily Schultz and 11 from freshman Abby King. 8th Grader Maddie Flaugher scored 9 as the freshmen fell to the Lady Camels. The Tenth Region is wide open if Montgomery County can be beaten on a given night. Brossart is experienced but you still have to know they are young with only one senior who gets significant playing time and some of their bench are freshmen. They should just get better playing the tough schedule they are playing. Highlands has a chance to win the 9th this year. They beat Boone yesterday by 6 so both the 9th and 10th are more open than in past years.

It was an impressive day for the Lady 'Stangs of Bishop Brossart. They settled for a 1-1 result but in Coach Feldmann's eyes the effort was 2-0. The Lady 'Stangs fell 45-38 to Number 2 ranked Anderson County and then upended Number 4 ranked Manual this evening 53-46. Manual was subbing a pool game for a team that didn't show for the tourney giving Brossart a tough draw. “I was very proud of their effort,” exclaimed an exhauster Josh Feldmann. “We played two top five teams in four hours and could have won both.” The Lady 'Stangs are now 9-3 while Anderson County improves to 8-2 and Manual now slips to 7-3. The games were part of pool play the STAXX Bar-B-Q Invitational at Franklin County High School in Frankfort, Kentucky today. The Lady 'Stangs will now play the winner of the George Rogers Clark and Richmond, Indiana game at 4:45 Friday. One thing that has to make Coach Feldmann happy is the improved shooting percentage the last three games that was 51% versus Mason Co. and averaged over 46% today despite some missed layups. In the tournament opener versus Anderson County they shot 45.5% and then 46.1% versus Manual. In the 45-38 loss to Anderson County they closed to within 3 points twice near the end of the game. Junior Sarah Futscher led Brossart with 14 points while junior Abby Stadtmiller chipped in 10. Anderson County's senior center Kali Whiteside netted 16 for the Lady Bearcats. Senior guard Rachel Hartig ramped it up in the second game scoring 14 points while Futscher again was the Lady 'Stangs top scorer with 17 and 8 rebounds. Hartig also had 3 steals. Morgan Verst chimed in with 10 and Madison Eisenman had 6. The Lady 'Stangs now play the winner of the George Rogers Clark/Richmond Indiana game at 4:45 Friday. When you play two of the state's top teams in one afternoon one out two ain't bad!:thumb:

Congrats to the Mustangs who rallied from a 41-33 deficit late in the game to beat Oldham County 58-52 in the Lexington Republic Bank Basketball Classic in OT. Justin Saunders gets 28 including a perfect 14 of 14 from the line. Nice game also for Jake Jennings off the bench with 7 points, a steal, a big two free throws and in taking two charges for the perfect 9-0 Mustangs.

Geez gotta consider the source. Some are never at games but comment anyway.

:DThe Lady 'Stangs battled back from a halftime deficit at the Fieldhouse at Mason County to defeat the Lady Royals of Mason County 59-54 Saturday afternoon. The Lady Royals had led 32-23 at the intermission, but a strong second half for Bishop Brossart enabled them to enter the Christmas Holiday with an 8-2 season record. Mason County falls to 6-3. They were coming off a big 7 point win over St. Henry this week. Mason jumped out to a quick 17-9 lead after one and extended it to 32-23 at the half. Brossart stormed back with a 21-9 third quarter and a 15-13 edge in the fourth stanza despite missing some free throws at the end. It was the Lady 'Stangs best shooting game of the year as they hit on 23 of 45 from the floor for 51.1%. They held a slight 28-26 lead on the boards and had big advantages in point off turnovers (20-9), and points off the bench (27-11). Junior Sarah Futscher led the Lady 'Stangs with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Junior Cori Ziegler had 11 points while juniors Morgan Verst and Abby Stadtmiller tossed in 10 each. Mason led by as many as 15 at 30-15 in a game that saw 5 lead changes and the game tied 5 times. McKenzie Butler led Mason County with 15 points.

Looks like NCC and Brossart could be headed to another All "A" State matchup in the smeifinals in Frankfort. They would play Saturday if they both advance.

The Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference released it’s Fall All Conference Teams on Wednesday and 10 Bishop Brossart athletes were named to First Team Honors. In addition Jake Frommeyer was named Division II “Player of the Year.” The ten athletes selected from Bishop Brossart were Frommeyer, Ben Uebel and Sam Wilson for Boys Soccer, Emily Greis for Volleyball, Rachel Hartig, Sam Cetrulo and Maria Greis for Girls' Soccer and Jake Baumann Jeff Steffen and Jacob Elbert for Football. The Undefeated Bishop Brossart boy’s soccer team clinched the Title in Division II while the the girl’s soccer team finished second to St. Henry in the Division II Standings. Other players of the year were Heidi Thelen (Notre Dame) Rachel Fortner and Abby Bessler (St. Henry) and Kelsey McQueen (Villa Madonna) in volleyball. Elle Eckerle (Notre Dame), Libby Leedom (St. Henry) and Breeann Bailey (Ludlow) in girl’s soccer. Evan O’Hara (Boone Co.) and Jacob Frommeyer (Bishop Brossart). Girl Golfer of the Year honors went to Jill Edgington (Notre Dame) and Jenna McGuire (Villa Madonna). Boy Golfer of the Year went to Paul Clancy (Ryle), Drew McDonald (Newport CC), and Jeff Reno (Heritage Academy). Boy Runners of the Year in cross country went to Brady Baker (Cooper) and Eric Baugh (Villa Madonna) and Girl Runners of the Year were Amy Hanson (Notre Dame) and Sarah Duncan (Lloyd).
