:ylsuper:A nice article this week in the Community Recorder talked about Scott's fast start and their 6-1 record. “Defense has been our main focus,” said Coach Klette. What the Lady Eagles got Saturday night in the big 37th District Seed showdown with Bishop Brossart was a little “Shock and Awe,” from General Feldmann's relentless army. The Lady 'Stangs improved to 7-1 (3-0 in the District) by relying on trench warfare (junior Sarah Futscher had 15 points and 9 rebounds, barbwire defense (Brossart forced the Lady Eagles into 27 turnovers and had 14 steals while holding them to 33.3% field goal shooting) and heavy outside artilery from guards junior Abby Stadtmiller and junior Morgan Verst who combined for 32 points). Add in in nine from junior guard Cori Ziegler and 6 from junior guard Madison Eisenman and you total domination. The Lady 'Stangs jumped on top early at 15-2 and increased that to 20-11 at the end of the first quarter. A 26-8 second quarter took the hot Lady 'Stangs into the locker room with a commanding 46-19 lead at intermission. The big lead enabled the 'Stangs to rest Senior Rachel Hartig (she played just 8:43) and her mostly healed ankle. Futscher dominated the inside game the first half with all of her 15 points. No Scott Lady Eagle had more than 7 in the first half. The second half saw a sloppy third quarter, but the 'Stangs bounced back with a 21-16 advantage in the fourth. Brossart pushed it's lead to 31 points in the fourth quarter at 74-43 almost invoking the running clock rule. Verst was hot from the games start getting them on the board early with a long three bomb and connecting on 5 of 5 three point attempts to wind up with 17. Stadtmiller also hot 2 of 3 from the battleship to wind up with 15 including 5 of 6 from the line. Brossart was 8 of 15 from three point land and outrebounded the Lady Eagles 46-34. They had the 14 steals while taking care of the basketball and not allowing a steal from Scott. They shot 42.4% from the field to just 33.3 for Scott. Brossart held big advantages in most other categories including pts off turnovers 24 to 8), 2nd chance points (21 to 6), and offensive rebounds (19 to 10). It was another convincing victory for the General's troops. In junior varsity action the Lady 'Stangs also dominated the Lady Eagles 46-21, outscoring them 27-9 in the second half. Freshman Emily Schultz led all scorers with 15 followed by freshman Abby King with 13 and 8th garder Maddie Flaugher with 8. The Lady 'Stangs JV held a huge 45-21 edge in rebounding. The freshmen game was an exciting one as the Lady 'Stangs battled back to win it in the final seconds 33-32 for the clean sweep. Prior to the game tonight Internet Broadcaster Andrew Kappes was honored for his work since 2009 and will be joining the New York Yankees as a Triple A baseball announcer departing January 14. A moment of silence was also held for the tragedy and victims in Newtown, Connecticut.

The Lady 'Stangs jumpred out to a 12-0 lead at Beechwood Wednesday evening in an NKAC Division II battle but a scrappy Beechwood (2-3) team refused to fold. Brossart opened a 23-8 advantage by the end of the first quarter but the second stanza belonged to the Lady Tigers as they held Brossart to just 5 points while winning the period 8-5. The 'Stangs took a 28-16 lead into the locker room at the half. Led by the night's "Miss Inside" Sarah Futscher and "Miss Outside" Morgan Verst the Lady 'Stangs eventually opened up a 24 point second half advantage at 54-30. Futscher, a junior, ended the night with 18 points and 8 rebounds while Verst, a junior, netted 12 points for the green and white. Junior Abby Stadtmiller tossed in 9 while junior Madison Eisenman had 7 and freshman Abby King 6. Freshman guard Macy Steumpel led Beechwood with 17 points. Brossart for the game shot 46.3% from the fllor to 31.1% for Beechwood and held big advantages in points off the bench (22-3), points off turnovers (23-7) and rebounds 37-29. This was the first game of the year the turnover column was almost even with Beechwood 19 and Brossart 18. Both teams did a nice job from the free throw line with Brossart making 75% and Beechwood 68.2%. Verst hit 3 of her six shots from the floor and all three of her free throw attempts in the game. Futscher was a solid 8 of 11 from the floor including a three point basket and a three point play as Dave Schabell would say "the old Fashioned way" connecting and making her only free throw attempt when fouled on a layup basket. There was no JV game. The Brossart freshmen won 43-9. The Lady "Stangs played their second game without guard Rachel Hartig and will return to the Seither Center Court Saturday evening hosting Scott in a District 37 Seed game. The triple header begins at 4:30 followed by the jv at 6 and the varsity at 7:30.

The Lady 'Stangs rolled to an impressive 54-52 win over 6th ranked Ryle at Seither Center Friday night. Brossart came into the contest 3-1 while Ryle had avergaed 67 points per game while defeating Bourbon Co. and Cincinnati Colerain. Brossart lone loss was a 55-51 heartbreaker at number 2 ranked Highlands last night. Ryle jumped to an early lead and maintained an 11-9 first quarter advantage and 22-18 at the intermission. Brossart cut it to 35-33 after three and then took the lead three times in the final two minutes in a game that saw the lead excange hands 6 times and tied 8 times. Ryle's largest lead had been 31-22. The rebounds were a dead tie at 32-32. Ryle outshot the Lady 'Stangs 46% to 34.5%. Brossart hed advantages from 3 pt poin ts (12 to 3), Free Throws (14 to 11) and points off the bench (16-13). Junior center Sarah Futscher, a first team all-region player last year, led the Lady 'WStangs with 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the floor including some clutch baskets in the last minute of the contest. junior's Abby Stadtmiller and Cori Ziegler also had solid games for Brossart with 10 points each. Ziegler was 3 of 5 from the floor and 3 of 4 from the line. Johnson led Ryle with 15 points. Brossart also won the junior varsity game 34-32 outscoring Ryle 18-7 in the final quarter to win. Freshman Abby King led Brossart with 11. Emily Schultz had 7. Brossart fell in the freshmen game. The Lady 'Stangs host Harrison County on Monday night for a triple header. All in all a nice night.

Sarah Futscher had 10 points to lead Brossart to a 73-7 win over Silver Grove on the road Tuesday night. Brossart held the Big Trains scorless in a 49-0 first half and held them without a shot til 2:35 in the second quarter in a game that saw 16 Lady 'Stangs play. The Lady 'Stangs are 3-0 and travel to Highlands Thursday and host Ryle Friday.

The school will begin accepting applications immediately for the Head Football Coaching Position. A committee will be formed and will screen applications and make a recommendation to the Principal hopefully sometime in January. All applications should be sent to Athletic Director Mel Webster at Bishop Brossart.

Ahhh no wonder we didn't make money Lawnboy lol. The Famous Recipe Classic was an outshoot of the Famous Stars Program. Tom Cummins still owns the Northern Ky. stores. The Stars program honored scholar athletes and gave out almost $50,000 a year in scholarships for 20 years. Cummins bought the 40 plus Cincinnati stores and because of unforseen costs and situations the tournament and program had to be stopped for lack of funding. The tournament closing certainly left a void. Tom was given the NKADA Distinguished Service Award for his generous support.

The field is now set for the 4th Annual Uncle Pete Noll Invitational at Softball City March 22-23, 2013. Conner is the defending Champion. The field has expanded this year to 16 teams. FYI The Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs Soccer Team will take on the Notre Dame Pandas in the State Sub Sectional Soccer Game Monday at 7:00 PM at Dixie Heights High School. The game will be played at Dixie Heights since Notre Dame does not have lights. Admission (Set by the State) is $7 per person. Only kids under 6 will be admitted free. Go Lady 'Stangs!

Bishop Brossart will play Notre Dame Monday. Game is listed at 7. Have not heard the plan since game listed at 7 and Notre Dame doesn't have lights. Notre Dame defeated NCC 3-1. Bishop Brossart beat Campbell 2-1.

The Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs continued their domination of the 10th Region and Campbell County in girl's versity soccer this year with a win in the Championship Game of the 10th Region Tournament at Scott High School Saturday Afternoon. Coach Brad Gough's team ran their season record to 17-5-1 while Campbell County finished their season 14-8-2. The Lady 'Stangs finished their season with a perfect 8-0 record against 10th Region Opponents and a perfect 5-0 against 37th District teams (Including 3-0 vs the Lady Camels). Bishop Brossart has scored 76 goals for the season while allowing only 11. That is an incredible number. Campbell County this season gave up the second fewest goals with 20. It was Brossart's 13th win in their last 14 contests. During that stretch, other than a 2-0 loss at Notre dame, they have outscored opponents 49-4. The Lady 'Stangs beat Campbell 2-1 back on September 17 by a score of 2-1. They would meet again nine days ago on October 11 in the 37th District Championship, also at Scott. In that contest Brossart and Campbell ended in a 0-0 tie only to play two 5 minute sudden death periods and then a shootout before Brossart prevailed again 1-0. Today, it appeared Campbell Co. had a chance for the upset leading 1-0 almost the entire game until 1:39 remaining in regulation when freshman Amanda Graus (her fifth goal of the year) found the net for the green and white to tie it 1-1. Once again the game went thru two five minute sudden death overtime periods before the first round of shootouts ended in a 4-4 tie. That brought on a second shootout which uses a second round of shooters and basically is also sudden death. Both clubs missed their first shot before the Lady 'Stangs nailed two and led 2-1. A Lady Camel miss then gave the win to Brossart and the Championship proving three is a charm. It was Bishop Brossart's second girl's Region Championship. The last came in 1994. It is their first in the 10th Region. Congratulations to the Lady 'Stangs. They will now await the winner of the Notre Dame - Newport CC game and play the winner in the Sectional on Monday at 7 PM at the site of the 9th Region Champ.

Coach Gough informed me that Bishop Brossart had more selections than any other team. Congrats to all that were selected!!

He was officiated 5 state championships and was elected to the No. Ky. Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. She receives the Tom Potter Distinguished Service Award. She still also is 4th in assists. She received scholarship offers from Kentucky, NKU and Wesleyan before chosing to play at NKU. In softball she was a six year starter and All-Region five consecutive years. She was the 1987 Kentucky Post Player of Year batting .652. Wendell continued his athletic career at Henderson County Junior College in Athens, Texas where he averaged 23 points and 8 rebounds per game. In wrestling he was Team Captain in 1979 and was 185 pound District Champion in 1980. He finished 4th in the Region and was a participant in the State Wrestling Tournament. In baseball, Doug was superb batting .560 as a senior (2nd in the region) driving yhome 27 and hitting 6 home runs. As a pitcher, he no hit Newport and finished with a 1.52 ERA. He set 8 Scott records. He was Scott’s “Mr. Eagle Athletics.” He continued his career at eastern Kentucky University where he was a pitcher from 1981 to 1983. Those being inducted this year are Bert Capel, Jr., Mike Crittendon, Wendy Rumford Hertzenberg, Katie Holtzapfel, John Madrick, Michelle Cottrell Marston, Doug Peddicord. She was a three time Kodak All American and national Player of the year as both a Junior and Senior. Tickets are available til October 25 at [email protected] Bert Capel, Jr. Heritage Academy (1996-2000) Bert becomes the first ever Inductee from Heritage Academy after an outstanding career in baseball and basketball. He led Northern Ky. In scoring as a junior and senior averaging 23.3 and 24.8 ppg. He finished with 2,268 career points and was Division III Player of the year both seasons. Bert was also Division III Player of the Year in baseball and had 100 strikeouts in 54 innings. He helped Evangel university win the 2002 Basketball National Championship as team MVP. Those being inducted this year are Bert Capel, Jr., Mike Crittendon, Wendy Rumford Hertzenberg, Katie Holtzapfel, John Madrick, Michelle Cottrell Marston, Doug Peddicord. She was a four year starter at Ryle in soccer and as a sophomore set the state record for most assists in a season with 19. She was selected All State four times and was Northern Ky. Player of the Year as a junior. In basketball, she led Ryle to their first ever winning season. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA. She earned a scholarship to the University of Alabama where she started every game of her career, the only Alabama woman to ever do that. She was an Academic All American. Those being inducted this year are Bert Capel, Jr., Mike Crittendon, Wendy Rumford Hertzenberg, Katie Holtzapfel, John Madrick, Michelle Cottrell Marston, Doug Peddicord.
