The Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame will induct 14 new members on November 8, 2012. The Class is an outstanding one stretching from the 1950’s to 2000. Tickets are available til October 25 at mwebster@bishopbrossart.org

Melissa Slone Highlands (1983-1987)

 

Melissa Slone was a standout basketball and softball performer at Highlands High School. She was the first athlete at Highlands to earn five varsity letters in basketball. In basketball she was a four year starter at point guard. She helped guide her Lady Birds to Regional Titles in 1984 and 1985. She scored 1,590 career points and averaged 15.5 ppg without the three point goal which still ranks 5th all time. She still also is 4th in assists. She received scholarship offers from Kentucky, NKU and Wesleyan before chosing to play at NKU. In softball she was a six year starter and All-Region five consecutive years. She was the 1987 Kentucky Post Player of Year batting .652.

 

Those being inducted this year are Bert Capel, Jr., Mike Crittendon, Wendy Rumford Hertzenberg, Katie Holtzapfel, John Madrick, Michelle Cottrell Marston, Doug Peddicord. Wendell Rumford, Michelle Schroder, Robyn Saccone Schroeder and Mike Shoemaker. Diana Meade and Joe Frank will receive the Tom Potter “Distinguished Service Award.”

Congrats to Melissa! One of the best to ever wear a Highlands uniform. Her best sport may have been soccer, but since Highlands did not have a team during her career she wasn't able to showcase that talent in HS.
