Newport is giving the late Ray Brown and brother Grady Brown a great honor by naming the Newport Baseball Field in their honor. Ray and Grady severed as baseball coaches at Newport for almost 40 years and during that time contributed greatly to the student athletes of not only Newport High School but touched the lives of countless others behind the scenes at other schools as well. Both are members of the NKADA Hall of Fame. Unlike the almost 40 years that passed before Stan Arnzen was recognized the city is doing well by bestowing this great honor on two outstanding men. As a great American president once said "It is altogether fitting and proper that we do this!"

Beautiful? Hardly. Who wants to watch 3 hours of any sport with no scoring? It's time for a long needed change. I think if there is a tie we play a five minute OT with no goalies or go straight to a shootout. :thumb:

Today I watched the Bishop Brossart and Notre Dame girl's freshmen and junior varsity teams battle to back to back hard fought excellent games but they were 0-0 ties. I believe strongly once you reach the high school level games should have an ending. This is not rec ball. I think it is one thing that hurts attendance. The KHSAA last year took a baby step requiring seeded District games have to go to a shootout. I think it is time ALL SOCCER GAMES go to a tiebreaker if they end in a tie. I'm sure I will never get my dream of offsides being eliminated but this is doable. Other than an occasional freak golf match ending in a tie, soccer is the only sport that you can play long and hard and not have one team finish with more goals, points or runs than the other.

The Lady 'Stangs solidified their claim as the top girl's soccer team in the 10th Region by knocking off another opponent Monday night to run their season record to 9-4-1. Bishop Brossart defeated the Lady Camels of Campbell County 2-1 in a shootout at Campbell County. A win over Scott would give the Lady 'Stangs the top seed in the 37th District to be played later at Scott. They continued their recent mastery of Campbell County, who had the second best record in the 10th Region. It made for a "County Championship" of sorts for Coach Brad Gough's team. They now have defeated Highlands 5-0, Newport Central Catholic 2-1 and now Campbell County 2-1. If they defeat Scott they would have to play Calvary to advance to the District finals and a District Championship gets them a first round bye in the 10th region Tourney. :ylsuper:

KHSAA is looking to take over Middle School sports hopefully if that happens kids will be more restricted to their Districts if they wish to play up on high school teams. Nothing in the KHSAA Handbook says parishes just schools.

Bishop Brossart got revenge over St. Henry Tuesday evening at Pendery Park beating The Crusaders 1-0. St. Henry earlier gave the Mustangs their only loss.

I can't wait to watch the Ryle vs Notre Dame game!

We do the Paris and California trips but they are both in Kentucky. :idunno:

By the way. We hope for Amanda's speedy recovery. I was told yesterday it was a dislocated kneecap and she can possibly be back for the post season. Is that correct?

Maybe we could just have shootouts. We could play indoors. More offense, no rain. Above all else though, we need to eliminate the archaic offsides rule. Thats like taking out the wide receiver in football. Maybe we could do a reverse game where you can ONLY use your hands. Thoughts?

The Highlands - Brossart series is not intense like it once was when District Seeding and Region play was involved. It is a conference game, but Highlands is now in the Region with Notre Dame, Newport Catholic and St. Henry. This is the first year since the records were kept (at least 10 years) Brossart has defeated both Newport Central Catholic and Highlands in the same season.

I know the basis of the decision but I feel that's between the schools and Haylee and her family. If they wish to discuss it, that is up to them. Best of luck to Haylee, a tremendous softball player.

I think 3 out of 5 is awful for most matches. BUT if we are going to play 3 out of 5 we should play game five to 25 also:thumb:

In the All "A" Soccer Cup if the game ends in a tie it automatically goes to a shootout. In District Seeded games the game goes to two overtime periods and then a shootout in all others unless it is agreed on it still ends in a tie. The 4-3 was referring to goals made in the shootout. Brossart made 4 including Allison Greely's winning one while NCC had 3. The regulation game ended with both goalies having shutouts. NCC and Brossart are no longer in same District. The new 37th is Brossart, Calvary, Scott and campbell Co. for both girls and boys. NCC is now in a District with just Highlands for boys and maybe Bellevue with girls

The Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs Girls Soccer team traveled to Morscher Field Wednesday night defeating The Lady Breds of Newport Central Catholic 1-0 in a shootout. It was the Lady 'Stangs second straight win over their rivals. The win enabled Brossart to advance in the All "A" Cup to play St. Henry in the Championship Saturday at St. Henry. Bishop Brossart opened their 2012 season by throttling the Eagles of Middletown Christian 42-20. One of Northern Kentucky's best kept secrets Jake Elbert rambled through the Eagles for 430 yards on 29 carries. :notworthy:

The Lady 'Stangs Volleyball team continued it's total dominance of the All "A" Region on Saturday night. Coach Pennie Wiseman's club dismantled Bracken County 25-11, 25-11 to earn their Fourth Straight Touchstone Energy 10th Region Championship. The Lady 'Stangs are a perfect 12-0 in All "A" Region Matches in the four year history of the tournament. Brossart is 8-0 on the season while the Polar Bears fall to 6-4. The Lady 'Stangs showed little wear and tear from the Friday Night Homecoming Dance. Tori Hackworth was named Tournamernt Most Valuable Player and was joined on the All-Tournament team by teammates Emily Greis, Brannon Hehn and Taylor Leick. Congrats to the Lady 'Stangs:ylsuper:
