Holy Cross defeats Brossart 51 to 41.

Yikes....What the heck is goin on this weekend.

No way did I see this one comin...

The Lady 'Stangs nine game winning streak finally came to an end falling to a good Holy Cross team 51-41 at Seither Center Friday Night. Prior to the game the first girl's team in school history from 1976 was honored.

Holy Cross jumped out to an early lead and extended that to 13-7 after a quarter but strong run by took the Lady 'Stangs into the locker room with a 23-21 advantage at the half.

The Lady Indians stormed back early in the second half though and led by as many as 11 points at 38-27. Brossart did manage to cut the lead to 5 points twice in a game that was tied 4 times and exchanged leads 4 times.

Holy Cross dominated the boards 32-20 and outshot Brossart 46.9% to 37.8%. Brossart did a nice job holding Holy Cross star Deasia Beal to just three field goals but when fouled she converted 10 of 11 from the line to finish with 16 while the Lady 'Stangs were connecting on only 11 of 21 as a team.

Junior center Sarah Futscher continued to impress with an 18 point, 7 rebound effort hitting 7 of 12 shots from the floor to lead Brossart. Junior Abby Stadtmiller contributed 8 for the home standing 'Stangs.

Brossart played again without Madison Eisenman and Morgan Verst who both should be ready for the Wednesday State Tournament Game.

Holy Cross improves to 14-3 (the second best record in the 9th Region) while Bishop Brossart falls to 16-4 (Still the best record in the 10th Region) entering the All “A” State.

The Lady 'Stangs did manage to win the junior varsity contest in convincing fashion crushing Holy Cross 46-26. The Lady 'Stangs led most of the game and outscored the Lady Indians in every quarter. Abby King had a nice game for Brossart with 12 points hitting 5 of 8 from the floor. Sydney Shannon added 10 and Emily Schultz 7.

Thursday night the JV also rolled in the Northern Kentucky Junior Varsity Tournament beating Lloyd 46-16.

Brossart led at half, Murphy made a nice second half adjustment and went on a 16 4 run coming out of the locker room. Nice win for Holy Cross.

Wow very nice win for Holy Cross, and at Brossart too. Always difficult to win at Brossart. Very impressive. Congrats!

I agree with paNDA, Holy Cross made adjustments after Brossart had a two point lead at half and Brossart could never recover. I believe Brossart had a couple players that were banged up not playing but when a team makes a 16 to 4 run Im assuming you would wanna make some changes to stop the bleeding?????? I just dont understand Brossart. They can beat some good teams then completely look like a whole different team. There inconsistant at times and that will catch up to you (as it did against HC). No team is perfect and anyone can beat anyone on a given night but Holy Cross earned it and played well. I guess time will tell if they can figure it out and play consistant and make a changes when needed cause it seems teams are figuring out what they do and Brossart has no answers!

They have been missing that for a few weeks due to injury and illness but did not adjust without these players. Their half court offense is pass it around the outside until they can through it into Futscher. When all else fails shoot a 3. They need to make adjustments but the coaching staff seems unwilling to do so. I hope they figure it out or it will be a quick exit from the All "A" and a short run in the region which would be a let down for the talent they have.

Wow! A tough loss to a team that is probably better than people are giving them credit for and we are throwing the coaches under the bus. Just a few weeks ago, we were reading about how great the coaching is at Brossart! There are a lot of "maybes" that can be brought up. Maybe the girl's aren't reacting to the changes and executing them. Maybe Brossart's early schedule is catching up to them. Maybe the girls have hit a tired spell in a long season. Maybe Brossart isn't as skilled as everyone thought. Maybe they are led into believing what some say about them and don't work as hard and expect to win. Maybe other teams have figured them out. Maybe the kids aren't in sync with each other. Maybe some of them are having boy problems! The last one is more for humor, but could actually be true. My point is, girls are different than boys. I'm not being mean at all with any of the "maybes" above. I'm just saying it's sometimes very easy to blame the coach when there can be a hundred different reasons why girls aren't performing in a long season. Sometimes they have to look in the mirror for the answers and not place blame other places! That's exactly whats wrong with society today, but that's a different forum. Don't make excuses for them, make them work harder and find the drive they are missing. Remember, the coaches do this for pennies, so what they get out of it is the satisfaction of developing young ladies on and off the court. I'm sure the coaches are trying to figure it out and working harder than anyone of the fans...for basically the same amount of cash!

Brossart got beat by a 15-3 team and they question the coach and his adjustments. Maybe the players and coaches were looking ahead to the game against Murray, maybe Murray had a scout there. Heck maybe your right brossarts coach isn't very good and has just been really lucky the past couple years. If he's that lucky he would have won the lottery by now. Love how when someone loses a game people hit the panic button on the coach.

Not sure why anyone would underestimate Holy Cross....that is a very solid team. Maybe that is why they won the game.

 

Doesn't look probable for these two to meet again this season so Good luck to the Indians as they play in a tough district and good luck to Brossart as they move into the All A tourney. Hope their two players return to the line up soon as they seem to miss the punch these players bring to the team.

agreed - Brossart will be just fine - They are a solid team battling thru what every other team goes thru this time of year - a few bumps and bruises and some illness and resting some players. I am guessing Murray was in the house vs HC. The three "big" freshman were on the floor together in first half of HC game. I believe they were down 4 when they entered into game and then up 2 when they departed. Should be fairly solid next few years

I think Brossart girls have a great future with the talent they have and I do think the coach has done a nice job however I have seen some of the decisions he has made and it leaves me shaking my head. Example playing man at NCC while the 2 big girls score 38 point and pull down 26 rebounds??? (did anyone see the Boone vs NCC game report? Zone by Boone, NCC 2-23 shooting from the outside Boone wins easy) Hello!

Playing zone to go up 16 at Holmes then switch to Man in the 4th and the game is 3 points with a minute left and Holmes has the ball??? This is just a couple of examples that have been going on all year. IMO he does not trust his player to make changes in the middle of the game and sometimes it gets away from them. Trust your players and have them ready to adjust and not wait until there is a 14 point run to try something. That is just one persons opinion.
