Presentation 2 Beechwood 1 in the All 'A' Classic Final
Congrats to Beechwood for making the finals. I saw both teams play and I thought Beechwood was a better "team". Presentation had a nice team but had some bigger weapons. Beechwood covers the floor well and for a smaller team hits very well. NKY was well represented with Brossart having a good showing along with Walton. BBHS played well and could have easy won there 1st round game in the Championship bracket to set up a game with Beechwood but came up short. Again congrats to all 3 NKY schools

Highlands 3 Bishop Brossart 0 (25-10 25-10 25-18)
If BBHS played like they did in the last 3 games of the St. Henry match on Tuesday they win last night but that was not the case.

Highlands 3 Bishop Brossart 0 (25-10 25-10 25-18)
BBHS laid an Egg last night. They did not play well at all and I think some of the rotations were out of sorts. They need to leave more of the best players on the court (whoever the coaches judge that to be). They had so many subs I think they lost track of who to get the ball too. One positive I see is they are setting the back row more when the better hitters are back there and they are taking good swing. If you are going to go down, do it with your best. Highland did Play OK (I think they are better than they played) but last night will not be a match to gage how good they really are since BBHS played so flat. IMHO

St. Henry 3 Bishop Brossart 1
Don't tell NCC that St Henry is down this year, they beat them easily 2 times.

St. Henry 3 Bishop Brossart 1
Brossart played some of the best volleyball that they can play after the 1st game in the 4 game set. They played hard and fought for every point to Tie 1 to 1 in the match. They lost the last 2 but not without a fight losing 2 close games. St Henry did not play great and does have a lot of talent but don't overlook the Lady Stangs they are playing some really good volleyball right now. This was also a great night to celebrate the battle against Cancer and winning. Thank you to St Henry for inviting BBHS to take part in an amazing night. The only thing that was important that night was letting a coach know that everyone in that gym that night is praying for her no matter what team you were cheering for. Go win Coach!!!

Campbell County 3 Bishop Brossart 0
All-A success is against teams of the same size schools not one with 2000 kids versus 320 kid. BBHS had a good year and played hard. They took many matches to close sets and had chances in almost all games. Not a bad lose IMHO because the polls are never correct except when they have NDA at the top of NKY volleyball every year. That is always correct dispite what Cooper, Ryle, or St. Henry like to think. By the way I think the beatdown that the Camels received from the Scott Eagles was much worse than the BBHS lose to the Camels. They never got started before it was OVER!!!

Newport Central Catholic 3 Brossart 1 (Hits For Chicks Breast Cancer Awareness)
Crowd was great and it was a good night to celebrate some amazing women. It was also fun to catch up with LB for a few minutes. Both teams played hard for some exciting Volleyball. BBHS played great defense and pass REALLY well but in the end NCC just had more firepower. They have some very good hitters that know what to do with a good set. BBHS students section were great and added a lot to the festivities and no moms got upset at having some fun. Thanks to all who put this together it was worth the long night.

St Henry wins 3rd straight All A
St. Henry looked very good and was the best team in the toury. LCA and Holy Cross of Louis. Played well against them but could not pull off an upset. Congrats to them. They took care of business.

Bishop Brossart 3 Highlands 2
IMO this is an overreaction from a new administration at BBHS (AD and Principal). I was there and this did not need to happen. Volleyball FINALLY gets some support and they KILL it. This is not fair to the students of BBHS again IMO. I hope this makes the HHS “super Mom” happy, but guess what, you still lost and I could not be happier.

Bishop Brossart 3 Highlands 2
I was there and that is not true. They did show up and were yelling during the HHS serve so the Ref stop the game and call Dan Ridder over and asked him to tell them they could not scream while the HHS players was serving which he did (KHSAA Rule). The kids were loud and a little annoying and they did get in the players and even the coaches head a little BUT the HHS players were smiling and laughing about the student section. Hell the coach even gave them a thumbs up when they were mimicking her every move for about 10 mins. I hope she does call Mr. Ridder because he was standing next to them most of the time after the ref stopped the game and handled it. Sour Grape from HHS. Sorry no one from HHS shows up to support their volleyball team except family members. Brossart support from their student section was loud and I thought it was Great!!!!!!!! If cursing happened I did not hear it and I was sitting right next to them. Again Great win for BBHS and Bad lose for HHS

Bishop Brossart 3 Highlands 2
BBHS wins 1st 2 games, HHS comes back to win the next 2 to take it to a 5th. BBHS wins 5th easily. Great win for BBHS on a night that both teams struggled to serve consistently. BBHS Football team (all 22 of them) showed up to support the Lady Stangs and help the girls to victory. $5 well spent I would post the scores but I am not sure what they were so if someone that knows could please jump in.

Best team in the old Class 3A to not win the State Champoinship?
1983 Bluebird that were undefeated and 2 time defending state champs ranked #24 in USA Today nationally and were beat by the Connor Cougars 13-6 in the 1st round of the playoffs. Connor went on to win the state title with the help of Melvin Miles at running back and a 7 diamond defense. Birds were posed to score with 2 mins. to go in the game when and ill-timed off sides penalty on the 3 yard line pushed them back and they never scored. If they win that game it would have been another title for the birds.

Bluegrass State Games
That's the problem, it is a new year and "several team YOU THOUGHT" did not do so well. Everyone was put in a pool and had to PLAY their way in. You can't bracket a tournament by last year's results. EVERYONE is starting over. Do you just want teams that are historically good separated to give them a better chance to move on. Now do you still think that is Fair??? If so you obviously are coming to the table with a bias against someone and it sound like to me it is small Schools that are not "worthy"???

Bluegrass State Games
teams were not sent anywhere they needed to earn their spot and they did not. Brossart went 5-0 in pool play and only lose 1 game in 5 matches. They TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS and earned their way into the gold bracket. Sorry you don't like it but that was the draw they got and they took advantage of it. They beat one team that had a record of 33-6 last year so they we not play total losers. If you would have watched them they played VERY hard and scrapped for every point and earned their way. Sorry you did not get the results you wanted from this tournament but BBHS played hard and had a great showing for the team they put on the floor. Good luck to all in the upcoming season.

If You Build It, They a Will Come
Shows what can get done when a few put there minds to it and inspire others to get involved. Great work by some hard working guys and what I like is it did not cost one tax dollar. It is a great place to play but the problem is the team you have to play when you show up is very good so it is a hard place to come away with a win. Well Done by all involved.

9th Region All "A" Regional Tournament
That's easy, just send 800 kids from Highlands somewhere else and you're in or take you coaching talents (which by the way are very good IMO) and head over the hill to Dayton, Ludlow, or any other "small school" that might want you.

9th Region All "A" Regional Tournament

Why are there no Lady Birds softball games this week?
That's funny I thought he was the best Referee. I heard he bought a new GPS to find a strike zone. Relax, just have fun with your better half.

All A revisit!
I would just like to make sure we Thank the All "A" committee and volunteers for putting together a great tournament every year. My kids have had the chance to play in basketball, baseball, volleyball and soccer in All "A" but have never won a "state championship". They had a great time and were very competitive and had chances to win it all some years. They do a wonderful job and there a people out here that don't want to see it go away. After seeing how it works I am all for classifications in all sports but until they do please leave the All "A" alone. By the way if they only had 1 class in football RCC Highlands might have 8-10 championships instead of the overblown numbers they have since they don't have to compete with schools that are much larger than them. They were the best team in the state overall in some of those years but in some of those year they won state they were not even close. Extra opportunities are great and I bet the kids that won those state championships including me with 2 are happy they got the chance. RCC good luck in softball this year.

All A revisit!
Well said Mustang; RCC; Year in and year out some of the small schools can compete and do at the highest level however it is much more difficult to do at a school that has 375 kids in it. When you are lining up against a school that has 1200 kids year after year to choose from it becomes difficult to reload with that low a number. Also most of the kids are playing 2 if not 3 or in some cases 4 sports to fill the roosters out at these small schools. RCC that's what you don't get. In small school programs you have to look for small successes like beating a "big" school in anything. That does not put limits on your program but celebrates an accomplishment. When you are competing against schools that cut more kids off their teams than you have or have over half their team that only plays one sport year around you are happy as hell to compete and sometimes win those games. When Holy Cross beats Ryle or Brossart beats Highlands in anything for a few examples that is a big deal just due to the numbers. So when the SMALL SCHOOLS can play against the other small schools and win we do look at it as a success for the program. You keep saying it's only a few that can win but NCC, Brossart , and Holy Cross which are truly small schools with under 400 kids have good programs because their kids work hard and are well coached. in SOME cases the larger schools are good due to the number of kids you have to pick from. Not to pick on them but for an example NDA has how many girls try out for Soccer every year 70-80?? I don't know but it's a bunch but the small schools very seldom cut anyone to fill the rooster. If you do not see the difference in that then you will never understand "Small" School sports. I am very proud of what success all the small schools in NKY have achieved and always will be. The all "A" is not a second chance, it is a tournament of truly SMALL SCHOOLS competing with other schools of the same number of kids and we all like it. RCC, Kids from small schools are well adjusted hard working kids that don't need your "protection" to be able to compete in life. They are doing just fine without your intervention but thanks for trying to "HELP" them.

All A revisit!
:deadhorse: It is a great tournament and you do not like the attention it takes away from all the other schools while it is going on. You are a broken record that has beat on this for years and always will until the Touchstone people stop doing it which would be a shame. Find a sponsor or put up the money and start you own tournament so HHS can play and you will be happy. Stop trying to hide behind "its not for the small schools" and just admit you don't like it, period! RCC, please let it go!!!!!

Are the Catholic schools taking over 9th region basketball?
No, but the feeder system for the Catholic Schools is much better than the public. I have been involved in both in NKY for 15 years and the Catholic School basketball leagues that feed into the high schools are much better than the public IMO, especially at the Grade school level. The rec leagues that the public school kids are playing in are not very good at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade levels. That is where your development starts. I have seen kids that are being coached the same defense and offense that the HS is using at the 5th and 6th grade levels in some of the Catholic leagues. This is a big advantage for these kids and programs they are feeding into IMO.

Covington Catholic 49 Cooper 48
Earlier this season, a very interesting play during a high school boys’ game made the rounds on YouTube. A player in his own frontcourt saved a pass from going out of bounds near the corner of the sideline and endline beyond the three-point line. Count it? Two points? Three points? Plays like the aforementioned don't happen often, but when they do, officials have to be ready to make the proper ruling in an instant. That situation comes down to the basics of defining a try. NFHS Rule 4-41-2 says, “A try for field goal is an attempt by a player to score two or three points by throwing the ball into a team’s own basket. A player is trying for goal when the player has the ball and in the official's judgment is throwing or attempting to throw a goal. It is not essential that the ball leave the player's hand as a foul could prevent release of the ball. Under that rule, there is no way that the player was attempting a try for a goal. He made a great effort to keep the ball in play, but should only be awarded two points, not three, for the ball going into the basket. For those who contend that he should get three points, think of it this way: What if that player was fouled by an opponent as he was trying to save the ball? In a non-bonus situation, does that player deserve to be awarded three free throws? Nope. A great play indeed in that video and the player’s team should be credited with something, but two points. By rule, it was not a legitimate try for a field goal.

All A question
"It's a great tournament. Why have they not expanded it to other classes? " Just so we can hear you complain every single year about it. Sorry it takes away from a lot of the talk about other teams during the few weeks it's going on but it generates great interest for "basketball" so let it go for Goodness sakes RCC9 and keep writing about Highlands. We will read those also.
