No. Cyclical.

No. Cyclical.

Yes, based on recent success and their strong feeder programs.

I've thought the same thing on occasion but didn't think it go over very good on here. Coming from the guy (me) that's a full on supporter of classification oh high school basketball. With the enrollment status of the catholic (private) schools it's almost an unfair advantage. IMO.

One thing I have noticed is that a number of public schools don't have as many teams at the middle school level. I think Conner middle school only had one 6th grade team and all the kids that didn't make the team play intramural ball. With a school system that big they could have 4 or 5 teams per grade that play competively, giving more kids a chance to develop. But to answer yorr question, no I don't think they are taking over. Just in a good run right now. I do believe that many parocial grade schools have EXCEPTIONAL coaches who really prepare kids for high school.

Taking over? No. Consistent? Yes.

The Holmes program seems like it's been the best overall in Nky for a while.

Is Boone still a top dog in girls basketball?

No, but the feeder system for the Catholic Schools is much better than the public. I have been involved in both in NKY for 15 years and the Catholic School basketball leagues that feed into the high schools are much better than the public IMO, especially at the Grade school level. The rec leagues that the public school kids are playing in are not very good at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade levels. That is where your development starts. I have seen kids that are being coached the same defense and offense that the HS is using at the 5th and 6th grade levels in some of the Catholic leagues. This is a big advantage for these kids and programs they are feeding into IMO.

I would agree with the statement that grade school feeder systems are better. I know at one point St Pius had 33 or 34 teams in the 8 grades.

Good Point, the Catholic kids all play 40+ games per season and they typically have an A & B team. They get more games and the High Schools have more feeder schools to pull from. They should be in a better situation than most public schools.

What does this mean? I'm not following the point. Are you talking about total enrollment or are you talking about boundaries?

I used to coach an 8th grade A team. We played too many games actually. Probably played 56 or so one year. Played in two leagues plus every Cincinnati Catholic school's tournaments.

The key IMO is the fact that up through 5th grade there are no A teams. Teams are split somewhat evenly. That keeps kids interested and keeps kids who are late bloomers from quitting early.

On the boys side, I would say emphatically NO! - Prior to this season, CovCath last won the region in 2006 and NCC it was 2000. IMO, clearly Holmes is the program to beat in the 9th region having won 5 titles since 2005 with a state title in 2009.

Boundaries.

Boundaries.

The classification has nothing to do with my response but I've talked about that in past and I didn't wasn't ppl to think I was bashing on the catholic (private) schools. :thumb:

Boundaries.

Gotcha. That's an age-old argument here on BGP. Rememer, though , that many, many public school districts will take the same out-of-district kid that the Catholic schools are taking. In NKY only Boone County Schools do not allow it.
