CovCath and NewCath will always be the hunt for the title, and are almost always top five teams in the region. But this isn't any different than any other sport at those schools, they are almost always good in every sport.

 

There has been a lot mentioned on the feeder systems for CCH and NCC in this thread. I am not sure on the numbers for NCC, but CCH took 17 frosh last year, that number will get cut in half next year and 4-5 will remain by their senior year. This was a very talented and deep team, most of the kids cut could go anywhere in the area and shine for other schools. You have 3rd and 4th generation families, so that rarely happens.

 

NDA volleyball program has'nt really lost any players to transfer, even with their on going public soap opera. The girls that get cut from the NDA volleyball would wax everybody in the region with the exception of St. Henry and Ryle.

 

Hence, there is a lot of depth at both schools!

I had no idea Augusta was in Bracken Co. Are there any issues when one kid goes to the 'other' school? I do know a lady who had a daughter cheer for Augusta and one played hoops for Bracken. Or was it the other way around?

Bracken draws from all of Bracken with no other schools competing for kids.

New Cath draws from all of Campbell county with one other private school, 1 county school and 5 city schools.

Larger population but a lot more schools for kids to attend.

Not sure boundaries is the right word.

Usually not any issues. If an Augusta kid wants to go to Bracken or vise versa I think a kid from the other school can "trade" places with them. If you live in Augusta city limits you are required to go to Augusta unless the fore mention trade. It mostly depends on address. If you live in the county but have an Augusta PO box then you could hypothedicly go to Augusta or Bracken your choice. I'm not sure if you could just pay tuition and go wherever. I don't think that is the case though.

 

When I was in school we had two boys transfer to Bracken from Augusta in 8th grade. One went back to Augusta after his freshman year. But the other stayed at bracken. I know they both lived in Augusta right in town. Idk if this answers anything .

It wouldn't be class basketball but it would allow small schools a chance at regionals. I live in the 32nd. Simon is the largest school in the 8th region by enrollment. Grant is very large. The 32nd district tourney is usually a forgone conclusion. Small schools can only compete if they have a once in a generation player (like Augusta with Brent Bach).

 

I would align the 8th something like this:

 

29th - Oldham, North Oldham, South Oldham, Collins

30th - Anderson, Shelby, Henry, Spencer

31st - Grant, Simon Kenton, Gallatin, Owen

32nd - Carroll, Trimble, Eminence, Walton-Verona, Williamstown

I like what you are saying here. You don't have to go full blown classify. But alter the districts where there is some parity and it's not the same teams 7 outta 10 yrs getting to the regional. Every now and then a team has an out of this world player but that still won't get them to Rupp Augusta is a prime example. They had the 10ths best player in many years and it got them to the regional semis but that's was it. Not saying that is not a huge acomplishment because it is. But next yr maybe a different story all together. I'm sure it's the same way all over the state.

I think the KHSAA has always given too much weight to geography instead of enrollment in drawing up districts. Schools travel all over the state during the season to play anyway. It would not be any more of a burden to travel for district games.

Augusta although its a independent school is in Bracken' date=' depending on your address you can go to either/or. If you want your child to go to one or the other its pretty easy to get around. I've seen it go both ways I admit I don't know how it works in NKY there are a lot more schools up there. Maybe boundaries isn't the right word. I'm guessing here but Cant you enrol at any private school no matter of where you live. For example I live in Bracken county out in the county not Brooksville or Augusta, I could enrol my daughter in St. Pat in Maysville or St. Augustine in Augusta if I could A. afford the tuition and B. provide her transportation to and from school. I assume it is that way in NKY with the private schools. Please correct me if I am wrong. With that said I am under the impression that if a kid lives in Kenton Boone or Campbell they could attend any private or catholic school they choose granted their family could afford the tuition and provide transportation. If that is the case then the famlies that have money can send their kids to whatever school they want. Then that could potentially draw the more kids with more opportunities to become great players to one private school or another. Hence all the talent winding up at one school or the other. In no way do I mean any disrespect to these schools. They are going by the rules as far as I know and kudos to them for all their accomplishments. There was a thread on here a week or so ago asking the question if certain players had stayed at other schools instead of enrolling at CCH or NCC. I didn't really understand that thread but I assume these kids all went to the private schools to get a lot of talent in one school or another to kinds get the advantage on the competition. Maybe classifying the Private schools in their own division. Which I don't really like because that would put the schools like St. Pat at an even bigger disadvantage. Then I've read on here to realign the 9th and 10th regions. In a sense the 37th goes back to the 9th region. GRC goes to the 11th and MoCo goes to the 16th. But who comes to the 10th? Im kinda getting off topic now so I will stop .
